  1. You bet, hon. It was the good people like GEMINI and RAVENWOODGLASS and SYLVIA and PSAWYER and KARENG among others--who told me in the beginning that it was okay to try safe, gluten-free packaged stuff, too--along with my mostly pure, whole foods diet-- as I was healing. I was so emaciated and had lost major muscle mass and seemingly everything made...
  2. Get some Pamela's baking mixes (hers is a dedicated factory) and buy some Enjoy Life chocolate chips and make some cookies or muffins. (Use an egg substitute if you can't do the eggs.) There are substitutes for most everything in baking, so if you get stuck, we can help!
  3. Wow, that's unheard of for universities. I know I never got that many days off in a row, even when we had Nor'Easters. Glad you still have power. Hang in there!
  4. BM, (oooo, probably not the best nickname I gave to you) They will clear those roads in no time---no worries!
  5. J--Stay safe.

    ARCHIVED Properly Arming Myself

Sounds like you've got your bases covered. Did you store all this info you complied on the computer? I would. Also, have a list of your supps, vitamins, meds ready. Keep a running file on your computer so you do not have to do this every single time. And makes notes WHILE you are there and add those to your file later. Do not leave...
  8. "waded"??? yikes, how much did you get? (sounds like the deep stuff we usually get) holy reverse universes, batman--- poor chicks--water bowls turned into skating rinks. Hang in there, J!
  9. THAT is when you go visit LOVE2TRAVEL!!!! By then, it should have warmed up to about 12 or so.

..... picture IH banging her head against the wall....
  11. My friend raises chickens and once she went gluten-free, she said when the dust from the feed blew around (as she feeds the chickens, she scatters it) she had an immediate reaction. She read the label--sure as shoot, wheat gluten. She said she never thought to look at the animal feed labels. She wore a mask to finish off the bag (and probably hosed...
  12. Sounds a lot like what we eat in our house. I can't "do soy" either, but sweet potatoes are a staple. Eggs do not like me much, but I find I can eat them baked IN things. Well, kiddo, sounds as if you have all your bases covered. Hopefully, the vitamins and probiotics will help. Anything that restores the gut lining and boosts the vitamin levels...
  13. Get a good B-complex (50 or 100 mgs)--sublingual is best, but if you can't find one, do not worry-- and some Vitamin D-3 ( 2,000 IUs at least) and a good multivitamin (without iron). That should be sufficient to get you started. Make sure it's gluten-free. NOW brand makes gluten-free, soy- free and dairy- free ones at reasonable prices but you can look...

    ARCHIVED Why, Oh Why?

Knowing you as I do know, from all of our good chats, I am thinking you are being incredibly sarcastic here??? Just so the other readers know.
  15. aw c'mon!!Now you're just being a brat!! ..... it's 4 here.
  16. Fantastic!! Good for you!! While this is a HUGE step for you---I want you to listen to the rest of us who tell you from experience--don't let it prevent you from going OUT though, okay? I know it is easy to stay in where you feel safe, but you need to keep taking those mini-adventures out, too. Okay? Life is best lived outside in the fresh air. There...
  17. J, The news makes it look pretty bad out there....
  18. You can try: Get him to sleep on his side, a pillow with a neck support--it cradles the head and stops the snoring, a white noise machine--it works well for me. Separate bedrooms ?(last resort) I refused to do that--I like him next to me My guy tends to snore if he flips on his back. I sympathize with you because I am such a light sleeper...
  19. Alex, I trust you are getting some guidance for this anxiety? You do not have to say if you are not comfortable talking about it, but if you have been gluten-free for a while and still experiencing this kind of paralyzing panic, there could be more at work here than just a gluten effect. Have all your vitamin/mineral levels been checked, for example? thyroid...
  20. They do??!! How were they tested? I am really curious--- because my husband tested them with a home kit (he is a chemist and curious by nature )--- it tests down to 5ppm. Nothing showed. Or.... did you mean the company testing policies? Thanks for clarifying ... for the Newbies among us. I agree with you about Amy's--ugh!
  21. Coll-- take the digestive enzymes BEFORE you eat something. They provide the enzymes your gut may be lacking and help you digest the food. Probiotics in the AM before eating with a big glass of water. L-glutamine--is a capsule or powder? take it anytime--unless the bottle says otherwise. I do not take allergy meds, so someone else may have to help...
  22. Some of you may be ahead of me in watching it? I guess it played in the UK before here in the States. I am only on Season 2 episode 1.
  23. I'm a black bean fan, too. Can you eat black bean soup? I just figured out that besides soybeans (I have a severe intolerance to those --IgG test) I am having a problem with bean FLOURS now---fava, lupin and garbanzo. So, I am beginning to suspect all legumes.... This is a bugger sometimes, isn't it?
  24. Good for you, sweetie! This is awesome news! (picture IH clapping!!) As one who suffered inexplicable anxiety from celiac, I can honestly say I do know what it feels like and I do know what a huge triumph it is to be back in control. There is no need to fear food. There is no need to fear anything. One day at a time. It's all any of us...
  25. Hopelessly addicted ---and if Anna and Bates do not get together, I will fling something at the TV screen. Ditto for Mary and Matthew. I think she has been humbled enough to be more worthy of him. How poignant for Mrs. Hughes to give up a marriage offer to remain loyal and run the household. It's amazing how much was involved in managing these...
