  1. Vodka is gluten free. I am certain of this. I drink it often and I am fine.
  2. (1) "Tonya Muse, senior vice president of the Envelope Manufacturers Association, states that adhesives used on envelopes do not contain gluten. There are actually only a few envelope glue manufacturers in the US. National Starch & Chemical, a New Jersey company, is one of the largest adhesive suppliers in the world. A company spokesperson says it makes...

  4. I can't do most drugs (codeine makes my heart thud out of my chest and causes nausea and the whirlies, sedatives make me hyper and anxious(I live in opposite world, apparently), anesthesia?--barf-o-rama later... and you should see me if you give the control button on the morphine drip. It's not pretty. I hit that thing so many times I had a migraine for...
  5. It was only coming from Georgia for pete's sake..man, J could have built the table and chairs and you could have upholstered them for me a whole lot faster.... ah well, borrowing a table from the new neighbors worked out. I have some new pals and their dogs are adorbs. And she already said "If you ever need anyone to check on your kitty...." Good to know...
  6. If there were gluten in wine or distilled alcohol, I'd be dead by now. I echo everyone else's advice. Wait a bit longer before indulging. Your gut may still be raw. I had to wait a long time before I could enjoy it again after diagnosis. (and for the 3 years before it, I was too sick to indulge.) I'm sort of making up for lost time. Just had a fabulous...
  7. Just think of us as a bunch of cool aunties who are all hoping you live a good, long, healthy life.
  8. Good luck with the surgeries, you guys! Just FYI, I have had both of these procedures. In the old days (when dinosaurs roamed) GB surgery was more complicated. I've got a 9 inch zipper beginning under my sternum and taking a right at my belly button. The hyster zipper goes perpendicular. I'm a big ole giant scar fest, combined with the shoulders and breast...
  9. And I have to say that reputable doctors do not put people through a gluten challenge just to be cruel or to make them "guinea pigs". They do it to ensure that Celiac Disease is, in fact, the underlying problem and not some other GI tract disease like EE, Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, etc. Celiac is not the only reason someone might have these issues....
  10. I am pretty gobsmacked myself about a doctor contradicting a solid DX (and like me, you are rarely at a loss for words, my friend) I have no doubt you have counseled her wisely. For prolonged diarrhea, my GI doc suggests OTC Dairy free CULTURELLE. For a good multi-strain probiotic, I am liking Florajen3 right now. Celiacandme, Please do not...
  11. Systemic lupus can cause many GI complications, (the list is very long) but I cannot find any articles that support the claim that lupus CAUSES blunting of the villi except this one: "Protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) is another condition of the small bowel associated with SLE. It is characterized by signifi cant hypoalbuminemia and diarrhea without...
  12. I like them and have never had an issue with them.
  13. Sorry about your grandparents, hon. But I would like to echo Colleen's thoughts about your recovery and add this one: I agree that when our bodies are healthy, we are most definitely able to handle life's traumas and unexpected complications much better than when we are ill. I made a major life change last year moving 1300 miles and starting fresh and...
  14. Bag lady and Koolatron cooler in the car lady here!! Everybody...get one of these puppies. Great investment! Plugs into the lighter and stashes behind the driver's seat. Carried enough for a 3 day car trip. Looks like this, But I got mine from ama zon. Power of Positive thinking, honey...did not mean to take your thread off course, but it...
  15. yeah, sweets, I know what the goal is...but ....I will never be able to do that. I am just celebrating my "total score"...I am a dork that way. I am rotten at these games. lol now, gin rummy, I can kick ass. trivial pursuit, sure... Solitaire? I always lose....to myself....lmao thx, I am sure I will whine (wine) all about it to you later on email. ugh...

  17. I got an 884 first time out (is that good? no clue...lol. I suck at numbers) but I am NOT, repeat not going to get roped into playing this all the time. ok, maybe just one more.......dang you, Ski...
  18. I do not think a single person on c.com would ever say such a thing to anyone. Obviously, whoever wrote that stuff has no knowledge of NCGS as a real medical condition recognized by celiac experts. There are many people on here with NCGS and no "firm piece of paper diagnosis" and nearly all of us had a difficult path getting diagnosed, so yes! stop ...
  19. Stupid celiac and its many tag-alongs and assorted complications! argh! None of us ever have "just celiac" it seems. Lori, I am sorry you have also developed POTS, but I am very glad you know what it is and are getting proper treatment. I had so hoped your symptoms were just part of the celiac cascade and would resolve on their own. Good for you for...
  20. Same here. I was always all over the place, the WBC, RBC, BG, ferritin, even the thyroid panels. Wonky and funky. (could be a good name for an alternative band...) My BP was 80/50...that's soooo NOT normal....anyhoo.. Everything in me is NORMAL now. For the first time in my life. also Cycling lady, said... "But it would be nice to have a gluten...
  21. Ok, just to be clear...this small portion that you have highlighted here?.Those are not my words, okay, but part of a quote from ONE study from one article from a post nearly 2 years ago. If it helps calm your fears, I have had drywall repairs done in my home the last few weeks and nothing has happened to me. IrishHeart, on 28 Apr 2012 - 9:44 PM...
  22. Hon, Blood glucose levels may fluctuate with celiac disease (UNdXed or in the beginning) Mine has been as high as 107 in the past, then down to 68, now it lingers around 80 or so. I'm good. And yes, they tested me every which way for diabetes. What I am trying to tell you is...MOST of this will regulate after a while off gluten. You are...
  23. here's where your username comes in super - handy
  24. "Fecal elastase-1 is useful in identifying exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in adult celiac patients with diarrhea. Our longitudinal data suggests that pancreatic enzyme supplementation could be discontinued in a substantial proportion of patients as symptoms improve." .....suggests to me that you may not need to take the supps forever. Most celiacs...
