ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Girl Scout Cookies - Horrible!
IrishHeart replied to sschevychevelle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
whoa.! ...hold on a sec.... no one is "lying " on here "to protect their daughter's cookie sales" or has "broken taste buds". You have your opinion and others have theirs. This is a forum and that's how it works. People can express an opinion without the need for anyone being rude in response. And that's my opinion. -
No, hon that's not how this works. Your GI tract has so many bacteria in it. The "antibiotics" are working to kill an infection. So, now, you need more of the "good guys"--the PRObiotics to replenish. If you do not take any of the "good guys"to replenish....imagine what will happen. Total mess down there. Trust me on this one. This was my gut upon diagnosis...

ARCHIVED New Member. Had To Go To Medical School To Figure This Out!
IrishHeart replied to Deekle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
DEEKLE: (P.S. Sitting on the can until your feet go to sleep from sciatic compression really sucks.) IRISH: amen, brother.....and I think I just had a flashback. Sorry you are having pain and there's no way in HELL I'd do what you're doing...not even for a zillion bucks. My brain would be fried by day 4. You are one brave soul. -
Anytime anyone takes a course of antibiotics, they should take probiotics to correct the gut flora balance. Very rarely will a GI doctor tell you this. (Mine is one of the more enlightened ones) (A good one is Florajen3). This advice is IMHO, but I have seen probiotics work wonders for many people, myself included. MY GI tract was a mess for many...

You may feel worse before you feel better. Healing the gut is an up and down road. Just be patient. Here is your new motto: Every day is a healing day. Please read this entire thread I have linked below so you understand everything about cross contamination. Just BELIEVE you can get well! And as corny as this sounds, remaining hopeful and positive...

ARCHIVED Don't Know If This Will Be Good
IrishHeart replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We love the show America's Test Kitchen. I have read the articles about the cookbook and already ordered one. They did their homework on celiac and mention it frequently in the articles. Not sure about the fad comment. I did not feel that way reading the introduction to the book at all. They "get it". . I'd say..listen to it! -
ARCHIVED Need Encouragement
IrishHeart replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
She said that because she is likely a member of the Gluten Free Society and a " trained professional in gluten awareness". . Let us recall that dr. osborne claims that corn and rice have the kind of gluten protein that makes celiacs sick. He says this, despite what leading celiac researchers say to the contrary. -
I do not live in Ireland, capt'n jack. I wish I did. I have been there many times, but I live in the US. No,no, no...now..come on...do not lose hope! Please...we're here for you! We've walked in your shoes!!. Even if that test is negative, you could try a gluten-free diet and get rid of the symptoms. Many people with NCGS (non-celiac gluten sensitivity...

It's possible to have celiac without anemia, yes. For a long time, I did not show B-12 or folate of Vit D deficiencies until I was really sick. There are dozens of celiac-related symptoms and conditions and you do not have to have all of them to be a celiac. You may have a folate deficiency or a Vitamin D or K deficiency (but the tests they did on you...

ARCHIVED Need Encouragement
IrishHeart replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I started out with the words "with all due respect" but you've come back with a few posts that are already abrasive. I suggest two things: When you come into an established community of forum members, you start out on the right foot. (1) You don't tell people they are "victimizing themselves" and (2) you don't state things as facts without evidence... -
Your mom's doctor is the one to appeal to to get her to stop the madness.. Let's look at the facts: Celiac is hereditary. You got the gene from someone. (check!) Celiac centers list people who should be tested as (1) those with thyroid disease. (check!) (2) those with immediate family members with celiac (check!) EE is listed as a celiac symptom...

ARCHIVED Over 25 Years Of Chasing A Diagnosis, Please Help, Elevated Ttg Iga
IrishHeart replied to rcheltrvel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Happy Birthday!! and you may discover you do not need that pain medicine at all. Be careful taking it and be sure to taper off it when you want to stop. Docs love giving out that neurontin. Soon, you will probably not need that Prilosec either. (been there/done that--and same thing: horrid neck pain, joint pain, "fibro") MANY of us have walked this same...- 71 replies

ARCHIVED Over 25 Years Of Chasing A Diagnosis, Please Help, Elevated Ttg Iga
IrishHeart replied to rcheltrvel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Rachel! The GI tract can be damaged and have inflammation for any number of reasons, such as gastritis or acid reflux or several other GI conditions. NO GI doctor can diagnose celiac by "just looking" at the intestine. I have asked my own GI doctor about this and he was emphatic about that. (that's how I was left UnDXed by the guy I went to for...- 71 replies

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Chill, if this encourages you in anyway, I have been low histamine for over a year and half and I can announce with pride that I ate msg-free corned beef for 2 days and....nothing happened. I also had lasagne, red wine, some applegate farms salami and hard cheese this week and .....still, no symptoms....!! so, if you remove the high histamine foods, faithfully... -

Addy, Sorry about the kitty. Bella kitty and I send big hugs to you and D. It's never easy when this happens. sigh Last night's dinner was the "Well, your company has left, but as usual, you have a lot of food still in the fridge so you better eat it" extravaganza. Turned all the stuff in the deli and veggie drawer into an antipasta and made... -
ARCHIVED Dominos Gluten Free Pizza
IrishHeart replied to Jennifer81's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants

ARCHIVED Ocd/gad And Ncgi/celiac?
IrishHeart replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, OCD and GAD symptoms (and most of us know what this one is, unfortunately) are indeed related to gluten and celiac. Go to the bottom of the list. Open Original Shared Link Strict compliance to a G F diet makes those symptoms go away (in most people that report those symptoms pre-diagnosis) I'm with Cycling lady--accidental CC and I am... -
Barty, my sweet....you know I cannot resist the challenge of finding information and doing a little research, so your duck egg question sent me looking.... . (my first thought was "ask Barbara". She's my farmer friend in CA, but I realized she raises chickens, so I am not sure if she ever ate the duck's eggs. I think she just kept the duck, suitably named...

ARCHIVED Need Encouragement
IrishHeart replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
With all due respect, this is simply untrue. That is not how food intolerances work at all. If I do not eat lobster or watermelon for months on end, I do not "suddenly trigger an intolerance". Intolerances occur when someone is actively eating the food protein. In fact, on an elimination diet, the only way to know for sure you have a food intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Unable To Cook!
IrishHeart replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We all know people avoid gluten for different reasons. That is NOT the subject I was discussing with you. You are unwilling to discuss the topic of proper diagnostic methods, so you are now turning this into a "you are being mean to me". That is just avoidance, and an attempt to change the subject so, I will just say this to you: believe what you want... -

I am glad you have kept me up to date on email and I can truly understand the "I'm in the middle of moving and my head is spinning" thinger and why it takes you away from c.com. But, you know we are always here for you and I will remind you that I am on skype and I look forward to your missives from Croatia, dear girl. Just take one day at a time. It...
