  1. Okay, I know I'm the other side of the pond to vote, but who your president is does have a huge affect on us over here in Britain/ scotland.. (The independence debate is a major politial issue in Scotland just now). Glad that there was a big turnout in your election - this can only be good for democracy.
  2. The Angels Want To Wear My Red Shoes- Elvis Costello Good to be back! Story behind my username is quite long - and really quite romantic . Short verson is that I historically had a fear of maps. My husband loves to drive and has a Ford Caspri ( they weren't called that in America, think it was a Ford Mercury?) anyway we went on a treasure hunt and I was...
  3. Thanks so much for welcome back!! Health wasn't good for quite some time and I laid low. Huge improvement so thought it was time I got back on here. Really very touched that you remember me! The really good news is that my daughter, diagnosed 4 years ago when she was in intensive care(been to doctors, hospital since she was 5 years old) has had a beautiful...
  4. Hi. In terms of the correct way to describe your Scottish heritage , you're half Scottish. Scotch is a desription of items such as Scotch whisky(Mmmm) but not a person.Hope that clears it up.

  6. I was diagnosed by endescopy and biopsy but I'm 54 and also in the menopause. I do have symptons which are common to both diagnosis - mainly crashing fatigue and jointpains/aches. These are so similar that the only way I can differentiate between it being menopause or coeliacs causing it is by accompanying symptons. If I also have heightened hot flushes and...

  11. I was in the South of France last year and did not have any problems. I bought the Multi-Lingual Phrase Passport For Gluten and Allergy Free (Let's Eat Out) from Amazon. It contains all the phrases you need when dining out and is in French, Spanish, German and Italian. All waiting staff responded well to this and I had no cross-contamination issues. Enjoy...
  12. So here I am extending the thread on how long it takes to toast gluten free bread I made bread yesterday with a different mix than usual. It turned out light and fluffy and when I toasted it last night it toasted to perfection at the first go! My toaster settings go to 6 and I toasted it at 3! Who could I share this news with if it wasn't for this forum...
  13. I have no problem with single scotch malt whisky, including Glenfiddich, and coeliac UK state that they are gluten free due to the process. I can highly recommend Highland Park if you like a smooth malt. If you prefer a peaty one, Jura Superstition is good without being overpowering. If however you like a strong peat flavour then Laphroig is a good bet...
  14. I guess I'm lucky as I've not experienced any difficulties with either wine, malt whisky or Glayva . I've had my liver function done twice as I'm on statins for familial hypercholesterolemis and it's fine. Both my GP and my GI are aware that I have a glass of wine every night with my dinner and at the weekends I also have either a malt or a glayva after...

    ARCHIVED Endoscopy Question

Yes, you're right thatwe're all different and respond in different ways. My daughter went gluten free following her positive blood test and when she went for her endescope they weren't happy that she'd been gluten free for a few weeks. However she was also told immediately that she had coeliac disease. I think that all sort of factors might come into play...
  16. Thelast two years we've gone to rural South of France for holidays, where very few people speak English. I last did French when I was 16 (I'm now 54) but was amazed how many words came back to me. Anyway, I decided that I would like to try and improve upon the few words that I was using to communicate. I've started doing the Linguaphone Just Talk series....
  17. Welcome to the forum. I understand how overwhelmed you are feeling just now, but Mushroom has given you lots of good advice. Check Josh's farewell post (he's decided to stay) for lots of positive affirmation. I know that it may seem totally insurmountable just now but honestly it will get better. Stick with it. Use the forum for support and informstion.
  18. I think, Darn210, that you made a very valid point when you said- 'I think that often once people get a handle on the diet and feel better, they don't need us (the board) anymore. They're the ones that don't have additional intolerances, have no problems eating off of shared lines, have family members that jumped right on board with them to learn about...

  20. I use Dermalogica treatment foundation. I contacted them and they sent me a list of their products that were gluten free. They are a skincare company so the treatment foundation is the only make-up they do. For eye-liners and mascara, I use an on-line company,e.l.f cosmetics, who list the ingredients of each product. I think they only ship to UK and Italy...
  21. Welcome. I could relate to a lot of your post. I was 53 when I was diagnosed. It's almost 9 months since my diagnosis and there is such a difference to my life. A couple of months I had a 'wow, this must be how everyone else feels'. The worst things for me was the fatigue, brain fog and joint aches. I'd had them since I was a school child but thought that...
  22. Are you currently living in the UK? If so, join coeliac UK and you will receive a free food and drink directory. This not only lists gluten free food/drink but also checks that methods of production etc keeps it free from cross-contamination where gluten products are produced in same factory.
  23. All better now. Virus only lasted a wee while. What does your toaster do? I didn't know that toasters which popped were a British thing.
