Actually she has a neurological disorder (gluten ataxia? ) that disrupts her balance and makes it hard to use her legs. Even when she's walking her legs don't work right. But she's not in pain and her life expectancy is the same as any other pug's. I've watched all of her videos (there are a ton of them) and they explain it all in one of them. I'm more...

ARCHIVED Why I Don't Trust Pizza Hut
bartfull replied to sunny2012's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I have worked in restaurants and I'm here to tell you that it isn't just chain restaurants that are scary. When it is busy the cooks get surly and even if you write in large letters and tell them in person that a customer has allergies, they will often either forget and then just remove the offending food from the plate, or sometimes deliberately put it on...- 9 replies

ARCHIVED Beware Country Life Vitamins! May Contain Wheat Germ Oil!
bartfull replied to Zloduska's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow Zloduska, you DO seem very angry! First of all, Gemini never said she didn't believe oats could be a problem. She said certified gluten-free oats are safe for MANY celiacs. She never said they were safe for ALL celiacs. And as far as the cross-reactivity baloney, croos-reactivity in ALLERGIES is a real thing, but NOT in intolerances. The website... -

ARCHIVED English Muffins
bartfull replied to mbrookes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've had the Kinikinick brand and they were OK. Not great, but OK. They are so thick I sliced them into three pieces. I never bothered buying them again although I might someday. -
ARCHIVED I Have A Question As I Am Newly Diagnosed Just 6 Days Ago
bartfull replied to mama2preston's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I see a red flag. The condiments you used - were they new? Because if you or someone else had previously dipped a knife or spoon into them, spread them on regular bread, and then re-dipped, they are contaminated. Please go to the newbie 101 thread in the coping section to learn more. Now, all that being said, what the others said about being sick... -
ARCHIVED Grass Fed Cows Vs Grain Fed Cows? (For Their Milk)
bartfull replied to glutenfreemomma188's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You're right, this is not the place for this discussion, but I will just add that cattle don't only poop, they pee, and that keeps what they are standing in muddy enough to keep them knee deep. As I have said, I not only see it with my own eyes, but I hear from workers that that is the way it is, and the antibiotics are partially for the infections their... -
ARCHIVED Grass Fed Cows Vs Grain Fed Cows? (For Their Milk)
bartfull replied to glutenfreemomma188's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No, actually there IS such a thing. I live in cattle country and there is a feed lot in my town plus one to the north and another to the south. They are all like that. I know people who work there. And I know that what I said above is true. -
ARCHIVED Grass Fed Cows Vs Grain Fed Cows? (For Their Milk)
bartfull replied to glutenfreemomma188's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Generally speaking, when most of us think of grain fed we think of feed lots where the cattle are standing in poop up to their knees and given lots of antibiotics. I will no longer eat beef from the grocery store because of that. I will eat bison and elk and beef that came to the meat locker straight from the ranch though. I don't drink milk because I... -

Steroids such as prednisone will forst of all, give you a false negative on your test, and second of all, when you go off it you will get a "rebound" effect that will make your DH MUCH MUCH MUCH worse than it was before. I think Dapsone will mess up your diagnosis too. Read as much as you can in the DH section and you will learn a lot. And pay special...

From Advil.com faqs: I am allergic to gluten. Is it all right for me to take this product? Advil® Liqui-Gels® and Advil® Migraine and contain a wheat derivative, and are not gluten-free. You should check with your doctor if you have any concerns about taking this product.

Wasn't sure where to put this. The products section is supposed to be about whether or not something is gluten-free and we all know Udi's is gluten-free. Anyway, last night I went to buy some and they had a 24 oz. loaf instead of the 12 oz. loaf I have been buying. The 24 oz. loaf is only $11.12 and the 12 oz. is $7.41. A no-brainer as to which one to...

ARCHIVED Chance Of Gluten In Meds Very Low
bartfull replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Got interrupted. (pesky customers! ) Anyway, I have been amazed at how well the grapeseed extract has worked on my (formerly) enflamed jaw. And I've been telling folks they ought to try it. Now I haven't had any problems with the brand I take, but if anyone else has tried the stuff from Walmart etc, I wanted to let them know. Plus there are other folks... -

ARCHIVED New To All Of This
bartfull replied to martinamilligan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually there are PLENTY of processed products that are gluten-free. For example, I just had some Progressso soup that is gluten-free. Lay's potato chips are gluten-free. Most ice creams are gluten-free. Lot's of sausage brands are gluten-free. Reeses peanut butter cups (the regular ones, not the holiday ones) and hershey kisses are gluten-free. There are... -
ARCHIVED Undeclared Wheat In Some Supplements
bartfull posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Looks like some of us may be getting glutened by our supplements. Open Original Shared Link And Walgreen's and Walmart (along with possibly others) are the culprits. ARCHIVED How To Encourage A Friend
bartfull replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Send her here and have her read as much as she can. When she sees how serious celiac can be, and even more importantly (to her), when she sees how easy the diet becomes for many of us and how much better we all feel, maybe she will decide to get strict with her diet. No, you will probably never get her to get tested. I know because she sounds like me... -
ARCHIVED 16 Month Old-Doesn't Eat Enough
bartfull replied to courtnihays's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Definitely get all the testing done. But if they can't find anything you might try a gluten-free diet anyway. And this: When I was a little kid I didn't eat much either. I was EXTREMELY thin. Not only was I full after a couple of bites, but it took me forever to eat them. My doctor had me on an iron supplement and I'm not sure if it was his idea or Mom... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Gluten Free Labeling/manufacturing
bartfull replied to txveronica's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
"You should give your body a few months to actually heal before trying those "gluten free" labeled items off the shelf. They can leave a 100% gluten free facility and then be cross contaminated during shipping, handling, and shelving in the stores." Sunny, according to that statement, ANYTHING can be cross-contaminated during shipping, handling, and selving...- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Confused About Gluten Free Labeling/manufacturing
bartfull replied to txveronica's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh yeah, as far as same facility/same line, it depends on the item. I mostly stay away from things made on the same line because I'm 60 years old and have worked long enough to know that quite a few employees at any job will cut corners when they can. That means even if they SAY they clean the lines between batches, I just don't trust them to be clean ENOUGH...- 7 replies
