ARCHIVED Chronic Sinusitis & Celiac Disease
gf4life replied to jmarie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My middle child has chronic sinus problems. I can't say if they are celiac related or not, but I can tell you this. They cannot tell what is going on in your sinus with just flat film x-rays. And an MRI is not suitable wither. They HAVE to do a CT scan in order to get a good view of what is going on in the sinus... Hopefully the ENT will put some... -
ARCHIVED Rice Germ
gf4life replied to mamaw's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ener-G sells a product called Rice Polish. It is available at Open Original Shared Link This is what it says on their website: Rice Polish - kosher-parve Rice polish is taken off brown rice during the process of making white rice. It contains part of the rice germ and bran, and provides a higher content of vitamins and iron than either brown... -
ARCHIVED Girl Scout Cookies
gf4life replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was so upset about the Girl Scout cookies a few years ago! I was still on gluten for testing, but knew that I would be going gluten-free regardless of what the tests said...so when the Girl Scouts came by selling cookies I bought 5 boxes! They took my order, but they don't take the money until they deliver. I was so upset when they NEVER came back with... -
ARCHIVED Do You Have To Get The Gene From Both Parents?
gf4life replied to anerissara's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You only need one gene to get the disease. It could be that you got it from your mom. Also I am curious at which lab your dad got tested? Some labs only test for Celiac genes DQ2 & DQ8. Enterolab also tests for gluten intolerance genes that are not yet considered to cause celiac disease, but they do cause gluten intolerance...you can see the gene... -
I was wondering if anyone has the Triumph gluten-free dining cards? They also sell a gluten free dining guide and was wondering if anyone has tried that and if it is worth the money? Open Original Shared Link Thanks for any input.

ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge Survival
gf4life replied to baggotlane's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Andrew, I'm glad that you are confident that you do not have Celiac. If you did not see improvement on the diet and did not get horribly ill on the gluten challenge, then you are most likely right. It is probably something else. I do hope you find out what it is so you can get your health back. Please don't be too surprised by the responses... -

Hi, I had a hard time figuring it out at first too. If you just want to use one of the avatars available on the site, then I can help you. I have had difficulty with uploading one of my own photos for use as an avatar so I stopped trying. (I did finally get it to work today. My old computer wouldn't let me add this "family portrait" that my daughter...

ARCHIVED Perky O's
gf4life replied to hez's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't been able to find them either. I do shop online and still can't find them at any of the places I shop. I love the Perky's Nutty Rice though. -
ARCHIVED Obsession Perfume (by Calvin Klein)
gf4life replied to teebs in WV's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I also use this, since it is one of my favorite scents and one of the few that I don't get a headache from! I have not checked the ingredients, but I have never had an apparent reaction from it. I make sure I spray it places that I won't be touching much, like the back of my neck, wrists, behind the ears, etc. I also don't use a lot, so it isn't like there... -
ARCHIVED Salicylates Sensitivity
gf4life replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Rachel. It probably was me who was mentioned earlier. My son Jacob actually is thought to have Aspirin Triad Disease. It is basically an aspirin allergy which in turn causes wheezing-type asthma and recurring nasal polyps. It is hard to test for, so we are just basically treating him as though he has it. He can't have ANY medications that are made... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Used A Cookie Press?
gf4life replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Jessica's spritz cookie recipe is just like mine, so I won't duplicate that. Here is the sugar cookie recipe: Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies Ingredients: 1/3 cup margarine or butter 1/3 cup shortening 1 cup fine ground rice flour* 1/2 cup tapioca flour* # 1/2 cup potato flour* # 1 teaspoon xanthan gum 1 egg 3/4 cup sugar 1 tablespoon milk ... -
ARCHIVED Daughter's Depression And Meds
gf4life replied to ERA's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
jlanastasia accidentally sent this reply as areport to the moderators: Has anyone ever thought about accupuncture to "cure" Celiac disease? It is an allergy after all, right? Accupuncturists cure allergies, right? I was suffering badly from Celiac and decided that I did not want to live that way - only eating certain foods, not getting to go out to eat... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Used A Cookie Press?
gf4life replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have used a cookie press with gluten-free spritz cookie dough and it worked fine. Liz, did you change the disk half way through to do a different shape? If the disk is in backward NONE of the cookies will stick to the pan. So you always need to check that the disk is in the right way when the cookies don't stick. Or the pan could have gotten too... -
I have a book called the Doctor's complete guide to Vitamins and Minerals. It lists practically everything you would ever want to know about any type of supplement. What it says about B-12 toxicity (overdose) is that it may cause acne-like eruptions on the skin or worsening of acne if you already have it, but that is the only known side effect of overdose...

ARCHIVED Son's Enterolab Tests Came Back Negative
gf4life replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Definitely let us know how he is doing. It certainly could have been the soy milk. We took our kids off dairy for over a year. All of us came back casein intolerant on the interolab tests, and our pedi. GI doctor supported me taking them off dairy, but told me to watch them for soy intolerance if we gave them soy milk. He said you would know pretty... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms
gf4life replied to covsooze's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Most doctors/researchers will not publish a list because it is always changing (more like growing!). I agree that Dangerous Grains has an excellent list. I also compiled one a few years back from many different Celiac sites and articles. You can see the list here: Open Original Shared Link You have to scroll down a bit on the first page it is like... -

ARCHIVED Accidently Gave My Daughter Gluten!
gf4life replied to hjkmatthews's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One rule of thumb (that I use) is NEVER buy or eat any of the special holiday shapes of any normally gluten-free candy. Reese's PB cups, regular size and most mini ones are gluten-free. They will clearly label for wheat, which is the only gluten grain they would add anyhow. There is a really nice gluten-free candy list I have. It has been posted... -
ARCHIVED Son's Enterolab Tests Came Back Negative
gf4life replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I assume both of your children have both parents in common, and that is why it surprises you, right? If that is the case, then it means that both you and your spouse carry the genes. One of you would have 0302 & either 0602, 0604, and the other would have 0501 & the other DQ1 gene... So if you are not already on the gluten-free diet, then you... -
I have to admit I was already watching it every week! I really like the show. It is very entertaining.

I thought it might be it last night when a guy came into the clinic and told House that he was have diarrhea 13+ times a day (and he was a flight attendant, so it was REALLY inconvenient!). I was thinking, Please don't let this be it...It ended up he had quit smoking and was chewing 6 packs of sugarless gum a day and the artifical sweeteners was having a...

I've searched that before and I think it is totally cool! I plan to use it sometime so that they know it is a good thing to keep on their site. We all should try it out and keep it going, maybe more places will start offering gluten-free meals.
