  1. My horror story is that they did the first tests through Quest (who isn't very reliable with the Celiac panel) and when we got to the pedi. GI he wanted them retested with Prometheus. It was hard getting the blood the first time out of my 4 & 9 year olds. My 7 year old was easy (other health issues have required lots of blood draws and he's a pro!)...
  2. I agree with Sarah (phakephur) that it might be something in the animal feed as well. You need to be careful when you feed the animals. Wash your hands, wear gloves, and possibly if you are very sensitive (or the particles are really flying in the air) you might need a mask (like what painters wear) to filter out the grain particles. Now that said, have...
  3. I personally had DH before being gluten-free, so I didn't really do a whole lot of reading about it when I was researching celiac disease, other than to confirm that the rash I couldn't get rid of was in fact DH. But I do have something to add here. My kids never had DH before going gluten-free. 2 months ago my husband (the only one NOT gluten-free...
  4. All three of my kids tested positive on the IgG test also, and negative on the others. Unlike a lot of labs our results actually DID show a number on the negative tests. So we could monitor if those negative levels drop to at or near zero...if we want to. For me it doesn't matter if they do anymore tests or not. I know they are gluten intolerant and need...
  5. Good point richard! I think it is like most fad diets where it doesn't fit everyone 100%. It certainly isn't a medical necessity like the gluten-free diet for a Celiac! God bless, Mariann
  6. I personally felt great when I was on the blood type diet (and gluten-free by accident since I didn't have any of the alternate gluten grains). It was when I added in things like spelt that I found out about gluten and Celiac. But I agree that it is hard to follow. For me to feel my best I had to follow it EXACTLY. This was a big problem for me because...
  7. Most fruit snacks are gluten-free, but their are some fruit roll-ups and some new fruit twist type snacks that contain gluten (in the form of wheat starch I believe). At my house we don't eat Brach's fruit snacks, because the company has stated that none of their products are considered gluten-free due to cross-contamination. I don't know about Kroger brand...
  8. Thanks Tiffany. I'm not sure I could handle the spicy of all those chili pepper ingredients though. I hadn't been able to tolerate spicy chinese food for years before being gluten-free. I wonder if I could digest it better now... God bless, Mariann
  9. Okay, with all the cooking we have to do at home I am always looking for shortcuts. I hate having to make my own sauce. My absolute favorite sauce to cook chinese food with is called Greta's Sesame-Soy Marinade. She only makes two sauces and both are gluten-free. You can read more about them here: Open Original Shared Link If you can't find it locally...
  10. Anyone know if Hawaii's Own frozen concentrate juice is gluten-free? My kids love the Mango Orange drink and I'm waiting for an e-mail response from the company...We used to drink their juice all the time, and with summer coming the kids want more juice... God bless, Mariann
  11. Last I checked (last year) ALL of Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauces were gluten-free. They still should be. God bless, Mariann
  12. I have to put in another vote for Sweet Baby Ray's. It is my favorite. Anytime I try something different I mentally compare the two and nothing beats Sweet Baby Ray's. My husband eats all the reject sauces at our house. He's not picky! God bless, Mariann
  13. Michelle, No offense was taken. I hope I didn't sound offended... I do agree that in many Asian countries they do have a diet high in rice, and it would then be safe to assume that the diet was also low in gluten. This is not true in the Philippines. So many of their everyday products are wheat based! My MIL was surprised to find out that the lumpia...
  14. Years ago I tried to figure out where our ansesters were from and I got the run around from my grandparents. It seems to be a mix of French, Welsh, German, Dutch, Irish, Scottich, and a bit of American Indian, and who knows what else... Now my kids have the added fun of being half Filipino, which for them means some Japanese, Chinese, Malay and Portuguese...
  15. I was dairy free (due to a reaction to casein-milk protein) for over 15 months. It didn't make a difference with my DH. But I don't have DH too bad either. It goes away when I am gluten-free, and it comes back to a small degree (maybe a dozen bumps that last a week or so) if I get a small amount of contamination. It is worse if I get a large amount of...
  16. Berneses, I would be laughing at myself, too! Ianm, in my family I am the one with the dry, sarcastic sense of humor (I love watching BBC, too!) and my husband just doesn't get the jokes. So this general statement that women tend to misunderstand dry humor doesn't apply here! In fact I was bursting at the seems with mmm..gluten's comments. I...
  17. I agree Laura, In "real life" I have a very dry sarcastic sense of humor and mmm..gluten had me rolling on the floor with his comments. I tend to leave my sense of humor at home when I'm posting, since I have had problems in the past with family and friends misunderstanding e-mails. I don't want to offend anyone, so I check it at the door so to speak...
  18. I also checked their website. They are in Hayward, Wisconsin. I loaded my cart with a whopping $19.05 worth of foods I wanted to try, and was looking at $19.95 in shipping (under 25lbs), another $19.95 in shipping for each additional 25lbs! I had less than 25lbs in my cart, but still it was doubling my cost. I can't afford that. I realise that they...
  19. There is a really good article in the Winter 2004 Scott Free Newsletter titled- When Gluten Gets On Your Nerves, that basically details all the best parts of these links that I have given you (and also other articles). If you don't already get this newsletter, I highly recommend it. When you get a subscription you will have access to all the old issues...
  20. I've read a few articles that indicate the neurological problems associated with gluten do not always go away. They can sometimes get better, but not always. It seems that if the symptoms have just started within a short time before being diagnosed they have a greater chance of being helped by the diet, but the longer you have had the neurological problems...
  21. I don't know anything about this medication, or what they use for the cellulose, but it is listed on the three different gluten-free medications lists that I cross-reference for choosing our medications. Both the tablets and the liquid are gluten-free. God bless, Mariann
  22. One of my closest friends and I met volunteering at a local elementary school and found that she and hr daughter were also gluten intolerant, and our friendship formed out of that. She had her daughter back on gluten for testing and at that time her daughter was always sick and missing a lot of school. She was always on gluten because she refused to admit...
  23. Zithromax is one of the only antibiotics that my 2nd son can take. So I checked on it as soon as he started the gluten-free diet. It is gluten free. I do get a lot of GI problems from antibiotics, even the gluten-free ones. The stronger the antibiotic the worse the GI problems. I have had a couple of bad infections in the last 6 months and had...
  24. I recently spent two days in the hospital having surgery and I was encouraged by my doctor and the nursing staff to bring my own gluten-free snacks/food supplements. I was so glad that I did, since when I came out of the anesthesia I was very sick to my stomach. By the time I stoped throwing up the cafeteria was closed. They keep frozen meals for the hungry...
  25. Vitamins and supplements can contain gluten, usually as fillers. I would check with the manufacturer if possible. How long have you been gluten free? Sometimes it can take a while for the DH to go away. At first for me I would break out if I was in the same room as gluten, now I have to actually ingest it. I always know when I have gotten a lot of...
