ARCHIVED Newbie
Bubba's Mom replied to Tatum's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sure looks like you might have a problem with gluten? Those symptoms fit pretty well. Most Dr.s don't even think to test for Celiac. It's not on their radar. Even after I was DXed by a GI, my Dr. thought my DX was wrong and I should go on much stronger anti-depressants! I swear their answer for everything is anti-depressants. I hope you... -
ARCHIVED So Many Symptoms, Unsure About Testing
Bubba's Mom replied to Vintage River's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your low vitamin levels are ones that are typical for a Celiac. It comes from malabsortion. The blood tests have a 20-30% false negative rate. If they didn't do an IGA count your results may be "off"? You don't need a Dr.s permission to go gluten-free as a test. Try it for 3 months..and be strict about it.. and see how you feel? -
ARCHIVED Have These Tests Been Helpful For You?
Bubba's Mom replied to PossiblyCeliac?'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Absolutly get the tests! It's not normal to have blood in your stool. -
I'm so happy for you! It's so nice to hear success stories. Sooo...what's oil pulling?

I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time with your Dr. May be time to try a new one? House is really good at diagnosing..but have you noticed he usually wants to look inside people's brains..no matter what the symptoms? You wouldn't want that! LOL

ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like A Gluten Sensitivity? In Desperate Need Of Help.
Bubba's Mom replied to Sara2200's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've had many of those symptoms myself. Very frustrating isn't it? You should get the full Celiac blood panel right away if you're still eating gluten foods. You could have these symptoms due to gluten intolerance? Some of your symptoms could also be due to malabsorption or your diet in general? You seem to be lacking in protein/meats which have essential... -
ARCHIVED Question About Gi Issues
Bubba's Mom replied to kmccormick61583's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Unfortunately the IGG level is a blood test. If yours is low, you're more likely to get repeated infections because your body doesn't fight things off very well. If you are low in IGG they can give you an infusion or shots to boost it. They also know to give you antibiotics if you have signs of infection starting. -
ARCHIVED Oh Boy...i Think I Won The Ab Lottery...
Bubba's Mom replied to beachbirdie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would ask for the endoscope. The blood tests have a false negative rate of 20-30%. My blood test was negative, but I had severe villi flattening which wouldn't have been found if we stopped looking after doing the blood work. Something elevated one of your levels? It seems like a good idea to get a scope to get a better picture of what's going on? I... -
Hello...and welcome! I hope your tests bring the answers you need to get on the path to wellness. It's good that you're already looking into the diet. It's best to eat mostly whole foods..fruits, veggies, unprocessed meats, eggs, fish, and dairy if you tolerate it, at first. Some of the gluten substitute flours and gums can be hard to digest when you...

ARCHIVED The Importance Of Vitamins
Bubba's Mom replied to JustNana's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It sounds like you have villi damage with those deficiencies? It will take a while to heal to the point that you can absorb these vitamins/minerals from your diet alone. Supplements are a good idea. Be sure to read the ingredients to avoid gluten. A good multivitamin, probiotics, D3, fish oil, and a B complex. A calcium with magnesium and zinc would be... -
ARCHIVED Hi I'm New Here ~
Bubba's Mom replied to dailygrace28's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hello..and welcome! Most of us go through mixed emotions when DXed. It's good to know there's a reason for your symptoms, and that you can put it into remission. However, the reality that this is a diet change for life is pretty overwhelming at first? Your brain and body will go through a withdrawl at first which makes your emotions go up and down... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Question
Bubba's Mom replied to mderoc's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Having a low IGA and IGG would make the blood tests inaccurate. The biopsy shows villi damage, which would suggest Celiac, along with him doing better off it. Dairy and soy intolerance can cause villi damage, along with a few other things, but gluten is the most common cause. https://www.celiac.com/articles/50/1/Main-Causes-of-Flattened-Villi/Page1... -
ARCHIVED Question About Gi Issues
Bubba's Mom replied to kmccormick61583's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Raw foods are harderon your digestive tract. Try taking a digestive enzyme when you eat. The bloating kind of suggests that the food is sitting there too long IMO? Also, as soon as you're done with the antbiotic be sure to take probiotics. They help balance the "flora" in the gut and help with digestion too. Kind of irritating that you were diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED Tired Of Eating
Bubba's Mom replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hate eating. It seems like I react to more and more things? I wish I could just swallow a capsule of something and be done with it...like the Jetsons! I hate cooking even more! It's such a lot of work..and then there's the cleaning up to do. I'm now eating NO... gluten soy dairy peanut MSG tomatoes processed corn like corn chips... -
ARCHIVED What Has The Support Group Done For You?
Bubba's Mom replied to eimzom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There is no support group in my city. There was one at one time, but they quit getting together. I thought it could be a link to finding local Dr.s that are familiar with treating Celiac patients? I can see where having a way to meet other kids with Celiac might be a nice benefit if I had kids? This forum is my support group! Tons of knowledge,... -

Bubba's Mom replied to questiongirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

If the bread in the video was made from their gluten-free ingredient it's look promising? The texture looked wonderful. -
ARCHIVED A Few More Baking Failures
Bubba's Mom replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for sharing this Sylvia! I could get a job at King Arthur..I'd fit right in. So sorry you're having eye troubles. No fun. I hear you on the dental bills. I just had a crown redone. I have so many..I should be the "Queen of..something"? LOL -
It's always good when you get to add a food. I hope you can add back more. I read that probiotics help shorten the duration of a cold. I was surprised about that.

ARCHIVED Could Mom Have Celiac?
Bubba's Mom replied to beachbirdie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If things are messing up your Mom's readings, her Celiac test could very well be false negative? It can't hurt to try her on the diet? The scope may not show anything, and it would be one more stressful thing she'd have to go through IMO? From the reading I've done about wheat and gluten it seems like it isn't good for anybody? The zonulin it activates... -
ARCHIVED Could Mom Have Celiac?
Bubba's Mom replied to beachbirdie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hadn't heard of CVID before, so I looked it up. In the past I had a rough time with repeated Pneumonia. I spent months in the hospital. When I decided to go to an allergist 3 years ago, to start allergy shots he did some blood work. He said I didn't have Pneumonia antibodies, which I sure should have! I also had had a vaccine for it. He had me get... -
ARCHIVED I Thought I Should Introduce Myself
Bubba's Mom replied to jessimarie3's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hello...and welcome! Some of us test negative in our bloodwork and some of us have gluten intolerance, rather than full blown Celiac disease. You could be in either camp? Staying completely gluten-free is the answer to both. -
ARCHIVED Sharing A Hospital Gluten-Free Experience
Bubba's Mom replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was first DXed I was sent to the dietician from the hospital for a consultation. She knew very little about Celiac disease, or the diet requirements. She gave me a list of gluten-free processed foods that she had. I had already done a lot of reading before I saw her, and expained that a whole foods diet was better..but had to expain to her why... -
I have a great book that lists symptoms and disorders and tells which vitamins/minerals, amino acids, etc. you could be deficient in. It also tells good sources of it in foods. In some cases it recommends supplements. The book is: Recognizing Celiac Disease- Signs, Symptoms, Asoociated Disorders and Complications by Cleo J Libonati. It says that Alpa...

The amounts of chemicals added to foods is shocking! We were looking for gluten-free ice cream. As we read labels we saw lists of ingredients that were 3" long. ONE brand (Homemade)had milk, sugar, cream. If they can do it..then why not others? That's just one example. I see that they are adding blue dye to marshmallows too. I don't see why they think...
