ARCHIVED So Does This Mean I'm For Sure Negative For Celiac?
Bubba's Mom replied to chris4845's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you're still eating gluten, I'd say push for the tests. Knowing if you have Celiac disease, or just a gluten intollerance could make a difference in the way you approach a lot of things. The expensive gluten replacement foods aren't good for you IMO. The rice based pasta, not a big deal..and you may want a gluten-free bread, but otherwise it's more healthy... -
There are lists posted in this forum..here's an example scroll down a little try the google search at the top of this page and type in gluten in cosmetics or gluten-free toiletries, etc. I wish hey'd just list the ingredients in a way that's understandable!

ARCHIVED So Does This Mean I'm For Sure Negative For Celiac?
Bubba's Mom replied to chris4845's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My blood tests were negative, but an endoscope was scheduled anyway. The GI wanted to have a look because I was so sick and losing weight, etc. I was told that the blood tests can have a false negative in 20-30% of cases. When the GI did the scope my damage wasn't microscopic like some people. It was glaringly obvious that I had severe damage. I just... -
I would also add...the small intestine that is biopsied for a DX is long. The scope doesn't reach the whole thing. While it's more common to have the damage from Celiac near the duodenum where they take samples, you could have damage outside of the range of the scope. Some people get an "all clear" from negative biopsy when in fact, they do have Celiac disease...

ARCHIVED Help Pls!
Bubba's Mom replied to marni's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you were DXed as Celiac..you shouldn't eat gluten! A Dr. telling you that it was ok because you don't have severe damage to your intestines is madness. Consuming gluten will cause you harm and open the door to other auto-immune diseases. -
ARCHIVED A Case Of The Crazies, Brain Cooties...
Bubba's Mom replied to Phayah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You've been through a lot! If you read the threads here you'll find that most of us have gone undiagnosed for quite a while. Dr.s just don't think to look for Celiac. Not much time is given to it in med school. It's still considered a rare disease by some..and those that do think of Celiac just think of the classic "failure to thrive" in babies, D, wasting... -
Heartburn, or GERD are something you'll deal with as you heal. It takes time. I know a lot of people feel great right away, but it's also normal to have it take a while before you feel better. I recommend keeping a log of what you eat, and make a note if you have any symptoms. Sometimes it helps you narrow down things that just aren't agreeing with you...

I tried Bush's mild with great success. I added a bit more chilli powder because they are pretty mild. I'd consider myself pretty sensitive. I also took digestive enzymes when I ate the chili. Beans, spices, and tomatoes are a little hard to handle with a system that's not healed yet.

ARCHIVED Life Tastes Good Again...bread Rises, But Falls...help
Bubba's Mom replied to MauiSpiritGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
First..welcome! I've only tried baking bread once, and it turned out pretty good. I used the King Arthur flour recipe posted on this site. I was simmering a pot of soup as I had the dough rising so it was warm in the kitchen, and it turned out very good. Some others are having some trouble with it rising the way it should. I'm told that most of us bake... -
ARCHIVED Question About Panera Bread Sauce
Bubba's Mom replied to TightLoli's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree..if it had gluten it would say egg and wheat as allergens. The only tricky gluten one is malt. That comes from barley and they don't consider that one of the main allergens that they list on products. Be very careful around those bread items at work. If you touch your mouth, nose, or eyes after handling bread it could get ya. -
I'd be terrified to eat there!

ARCHIVED Is Lactose Free Necessary
Bubba's Mom replied to RVluvin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I saw a dietician and asked this same question. She said to eat dairy if it doesn't cause problems. She said I could even take a lactaid suppliment if I wanted to drink milk or use it with cereal. She said if adding a little butter or cheese made things taste better so I'm more inclined to eat..go ahead. *Some people find they don't tolerate dairy after... -
ARCHIVED What Supplements Do You Take Daily?
Bubba's Mom replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I didn't take your warning as you being a "know it all" Irish. I took it more as "been there done that," and you wanting to give others a "heads up". Before I was DXed I had been adding various suppliments. I knew I wasn't eating much and certainly not a balanced diet. I knew something was very wrong, but my Dr. just wouldn't listen. He told me to eat Tums... -
ARCHIVED What Supplements Do You Take Daily?
Bubba's Mom replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
thanks AVR. I've learned to ask the Dr. for copies of the reports of all tests. I wondered when my digestive issues turned into malabsorption and asked for copies of the blood work I had done in the past 2.5 years. The Dr. had told me everything was fine after each one, but I found several that weren't fine. Some of my levels were quite low. If he had said... -

I've been having the gb-like pain in my upper right quadrant for months. It was one of my strongest symptoms before being DXed. I got a tingling sensation in my right shoulder blade quite often too, after eating. My Dr. said the pain and tingling in my back was most likely caused by my gb irritating a nerve that runs through that area. My issures haven't...

ARCHIVED Perfect Gluten-Free White/sandwich Bread
Bubba's Mom replied to MerrillC1977's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm wondering if temperature might anything to do with how the bread rises? The day I made it I had soup simmering on the stove. I placed the loaf of bread dough near to it on the counter. The warm temp may have made mine rise better? Also..I know from past experiences with baking cookies, sometimes I had adjust the amount of flour so they turned out right... -
Celiac disease doesn't go away. You should consume NO gluten! If you are consuming it, you've probably damaged the villi in your intestine. It's the tips of the villi that produce the enzyme needed to digest lactose. You need to stop hurting yourself like this. Eating gluten when you are Celiac opens the door to all kinds of additional illnesses.

ARCHIVED How Do You Know If It Is Celiac?
Bubba's Mom replied to madiganmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Some of us have negative blood work. I think it's around 20-30% of us? I was DX from the damage to my villi, like your baby. The fact that you've seen some improvement on gluten-free is encouraging. Hang in there.. (((hugs)))
