  1. I also got sore knuckles on gluten. Holding a pencil or pen might be hurting your son's hand? I hope you can find some answers for him before it progresses.
  2. I commented on the ruling and said I want gluten free* with an asterisc if there is up to 20ppm of gluten, with a clarification posted on the label. We are looking for foods that are free from ANY gluten, which is vital to our health, not low in gluten. If several of those items are consumed daily they add up to trouble! Once a person is diagnosed they...
  3. I also got mouth sores from time to time before going gluten-free. After an accidental cc glutening I got 2 within a couple of hours!
  4. I take a med with Amitryptilene in it and it doesn't cause me anxiety. Eating gluten does though! It will pass. I know it feels pretty scary. Do some deep, slow breathing. Close one nostril and breathe in, then close the other and breathe out. It helps to regulate your sympathetic system.
  5. It sounds like time to find a new Dr? if you want to get tested, continue to eat gluten o the test will be accurate. Sometimes the blood test comes back as normal though, and gluten could still be your problem. Your symptoms sure sound like it could fit? You don't need to have an endoscope to know if you have a problem with gluten. Having a diagnosis...
  6. My hubby and son still eat gluten. I would add get a seperate can opener to the list. My son was opening a can of spaghettios and noticed it was going on the cutting wheel thingy. He asked if I had a gluten free one. I hadn't thought of it! I got a cheepo one from the dollar store and will upgrade later. I've always had a habit of going barefoot...
  7. I hope eating a gluten free diet makes you feel better! Many of us have been misdiagnosed or undiagnosed for years. It's a shame we have to get to a point where we're so sick and tired? The best advice I can give you is to stick to whole foods like fruits and veggies, unprocessed meats, eggs (they actually help regrow healthy villi)and... dairy after...
  8. I've noticed I get the dizziness/ataxia symptom if I get a low dose of gluten. I never had it before going gluten free, but have gotten more sensitive to gluten since going gluten-free. Check for any low dose you might be exposed to, including getting cc from others around you. I found I can't handle dog biscuits, and going barefot in a household with...
  9. Congrats on being able to add dairy back in! A whole lot of "new" foods have just been added to your diet. Have some ice cream for me?
  10. You'd be surprised at how little the medical profession knows about Celiac. They know even less about about gluten intollerance. Most think the symptoms are D, weight loss, stomach pain or nausea. That's it! We know there are MANY more symptoms. It sounds like you are on the right track. It's best to have him tested, but no matter what the tests show...
  11. It could also be an intollerance to soy or fructose? Both are in so many foods! Keeping a food diary is a good idea, but remember that there isn't always an immediate reaction to a food. Sometimes the reaction comes the next day or so. He could also be getting a bit of gluten through cc from others in the household? He could also have gluten intollerance...
  12. I made turkey and rice meatballs the night before the recall was announced. At first they didn't tell the brand names. I had used Perdue brand. It says gluten free on the package. Whew! I bought it at Krogers. It looks like we dodged a bullet?
  13. I've been using dollar tree garlic powder and onion powder with no problems. If you try a spice mix, like Louisiana spice, read the ingredients. I noticed they had it, but haven't taken the time to read it so didn't buy it.
  14. At first I went into overwhelm..especially at the Grocery store. I was thinking about what I couldn't have instead of fusing on what I COULD have. Soo..please accept my advice to try to keep a positive attitude. It gets better..I promise! Without Celiac I wouldn't have tried purple potatoes..they're fun! AND..Black apricots, Arugala, various plums, etc...
  15. I'm so glad were able to get some answers. It's scary when you don't know what's going on! Best wishes to you for a fast recovery.
  16. I feel so bad for you honey. Sometimes it takes several days to a couple of weeks to get over a glutening. Eat real simple whole foods like apples or bananas, chicken and rice, etc. Stay away from prepared gluten free versions of things. Rest as much as you can and listen some music that's your favorite..pamper yourself. Do whatever helps you destress...
  17. oh how scary! Hopefully rinsing off right away saved you? Have a great vacation!
  18. I get bloating/stinging/belching if I eat a small amount of gluten. If I just get a very light dose, like with using a pan formerly used with gluten, I get the dizziness. It's kind of scary!
  19. Congtatulations! Sooo...it can be done? I've tried going out twice. I didn't have as good of luck and I'm kind of afraid to try again.
  20. I would get a different Dr. Do you need a referral to go to a GI specialist? If not, find one and make an appointment. Insist on a scope with biopsy. My blood test came back negative for Celiac, but the scope showed obvious damage. In my case if the Dr had stopped after the blood test I wouldn't have been Dxed correctly. Celiac doesn't always show up...
  21. To my knowledge, I don't have any thyroid problems, but have been on blood pressure meds for a while. On med normal for me was 140/90. When I went in for my allergy check-up my blood pressure was 98/64. I've been on the gluten-free diet about a month too. If my pressure stays so low I'm going to try going off my med and see what happens. Maybe once...
  22. I am one who had a normal blood test, but the specialist did the scope anyways because I was losing weight and too nauseated to eat. The scope showed a lot of damage and she was positive the biopsies would come back as Celiac Sprue. She took 5 samples. I was given pics from the scope right after, but I wondered what looked so obvious to her? I couldn't...
  23. Thanks so much Sylvia! I have to run an errund today and I'll stop by Walmart.
  24. Thankfully, I don't seem to have a problem with rice! I'll look for the quaker brand. The ones in the "health food" section of the grocery store were $4.99. The brown rice ones were $5.99. A bit steep I thought! The ones at Aldi were $1.29. a big difference.
  25. My blood test was negative, but I was fortunate because the GI did an endoscope anyway. It showed obvious villi damage and biopsies confirmed Celic Sprue. A lot of Dr.s stop looking once they get a blood test result that looks normal. The fortunate people are the ones that are aware of Celiac disease or gluten intollerance and give gluten free a test....
