  1. My weight has been real consistant until I started getting sick and then I started gaining. I recall going to the doc and telling him I had gained 5 lbs in one week and had not really changed my diet, he blew it off, it was only 5 lbs. That year I gained something like 20 lbs and it didn't stop. I thought it was stress. I went from my usual 125 to 160 and...
  2. Suzanne, life can be quite overwhelming at times and it is hard to understand what someone is delaing with unless they have traveled in your shoes. However, I think you see here that many of us have been where you are. One thing I did that helped me alot was I went into counseling. Everything with my body was over my head as far s comprehension and after...

    ARCHIVED Oats

Yes, definately gluten-free oats but if you ar new to the diet don't be suprised if they too may pass right thru your system. If this happens, all it means is the body needs a little more mending time. At first I could not eat oats at all, not even gluten-free. 8 months later I can take in small amounts. I read here before that a person needs to allow 2 years...
  4. The "gold standard" for diagnosis is the endoscopy and that is completely up to you if you want to go that far. What I can say is that without the scope, like in my case, I did get a "careful" diagnosis, my doc had to word it differently and that has lead to some questioning by other docs that this was really what is wrong with me. Good thing is you have...
  5. Yes, and as long as I take extra magnesium and potassium I do fine. If I back off they start again. Also, blame some of my stiffness to lack of magnesium especially my back. I had terrible stiffness in my back and neck and did everything to get it to move and then one day realized I had backed off my magnesium, upped it again and it went away. Another supplement...
  6. Found this on iodine in seas salt for whoever it might interest: Open Original Shared Link
  7. Hum? I don't know about all sea salt but Morton's course sea salt says right on the bottle that it does not have iodine.
  8. If I get any gluten I will be dizzy for 3 weeks+. The stomach stuff and headache genrally last a week for me and then the off balance remains. I use charcoal tabs and it helps ease the first week.
  9. I have had kidney issues for 20 years and at times am flat on my back sick and will be that way for days. I first started having trouble when I was pg with my second child. Became a single mom to 2 little girls without their father to help out or even pay child support. I was hospitalized due to a severe infection in my kidneys when my youngest was less than...
  10. Elizabeth, have you had all your vit levels checked? It took awhile for my high blood pressure to go back into normal range and for my heart palpitations to go away. My calcium went back to normal almost immediately as soon as I took gluten out of my diet. It wasn't until I got my vits straightened out that the rest followed. Did your calcium levels go down...
  11. I did not read thru all the replies so someone may have already mentioned this. Besides looking at what you are using on your hair make sure your thyroid is good. If you mention to your doc that you are having hair loss and you are cncerned about the function of your thyroid he/she should set you up for a blood test. Thyyroid problems can cause hair loss...
  12. Yes, completely normal response. Oh goodness it is amazing what we go thru in our heads not only with the diagnosis but learning a whole new way of life. Sometimes it is not always accepted by friends and fmaily andthey can be seemingly insensative but bottom line in it all is we have to do what is best for s. The more I read the more I feel we would all...
  13. Good for you and good on your doc. AS you read on here many of us have had lots of struggles with docs so it is good that you have been able to get the support from the medical feild! Welcome!!
  14. Take a look at you diet. Look up "salicylates" and seeif you are eating foods on that list. They gave me trouble and I itched like a mad dog until I eliminated them. Also, are you taking a probiotic and a L-Lysine supplement? I was having terrible trouble with yeast and cranker sores which I feel the L-Lysine took care of. I have been on an iodized med...
  15. That is absolutely awesome!!!
  16. No tampering off. First few days I was fine but day 7 I felt it and I could not figure out what was going on. This was like in the beginning when I got so sick, only able to stand for short amounts of time before I felt like I was going to pass-out kind of like my iron is low (which it is not), very weak (muscles feel like they have half their strength),...
  17. Had a biopsy on my thyroid last week, growth (nodule) was flagged as suspicious because of size. Got the results back and there was no cancer found!!!! On the flip side, doc gave me the okay to off the thyroid med. It was being used to shrink the growth and is only productive in 3% of cases but not successful on mine. No fun and I could not undertsand...
  18. Yes, before I went off gluten I would do this.
  19. Katrala, your foods look absolutely delicious!!
  20. There is what is a "Romance Period" for teens where the body can tolerate wheat even if the person had problems in the past. You might look it up and read about it. I think I would see about getting tested and speaking to a professional. Your mother is right that celiac is very sneaking and you don't want to doing yur body harm unknowingly.
  21. I am taking a probiotic. However, this last one was one I picked up at the grocery store and not as good, probably, as the one I normally take. Need to order the one I prefer.
  22. I'd love to get the thai noodle salad recipe from you, I am a big fan of thai! Sounds like a wonderful Christmas!
  23. This was my first gluten-free Christmas which we spent at home by ourselves. I experimented by using gluten-free buckwheat flour in my pie crust which turned out real well. Husband made a stuffing out of cornbread I made earlier in th week that turned out really nice. I used cornstarch to thicken the scalloped potatoes which were awesome! Could not tell it...
  24. First gluten-free Christmas and I feel like it was a great success. My adult daughtrs and I talked about our problems with gluten and what we each cannot tolerate, nice to have family wiuth the same issues in this sense eventhough I wish it weren't the case. Our dinner was lamb roast with homemade mint sauce, scalloped potatoes, artichoke salad, cornbread...
  25. I started taking L-Lysine about a week ago, advise from IrishHeart, and my canker sore is almost gone. And, been abttling with a yeast infection again and couldn't figure out why. That too has cleared up.
