  1. Was reading an article from Life Extension magazine, great health related articles, and came across info about the importance of vit K in our diet. I have been working on bone regrowth, staying away from acid foods that can retard growth so I found the article particularly informative. Unfortunately I could find the exactly article online but I did find this...
  2. So what is up with the critcal replies? Is anyone here a doctor or a specialist in gluten-free living? Aren't we here to help one another, to give advise on what worked for us? Relay info that we find informative and helpful? We are a little different in our own needs and reasons for being here. Just because something doesn't work for one person doesn...
  3. Magnesium and potassium are wonderful to help the muscles.
  4. I should have explained myself a bit better. Acidic foods have the same ability to start burning the lining of the esophagus and everything all the way thru to the end and alcohol does the same thing. Many of us who have had problems with acid reflux know to stay away from acidic foods but we don't always see alcohol in the same way. And yes, while articles...
  5. Can't recommend a group but have been to Pompeii and it is well worth the trip, quite amazing! It was one of our stops on a cruise we did.
  6. Alcohol not only deletes the body of certain vitamins and in a body that is in need of vits this is crucial. Also it messes with the flora in the gut. We know to stay away from acidic foods when our system is in ned of repair and alcohol is as destructive. Open Original Shared Link
  7. I have found Almay and Lancome work well. I too had bad acne for years and have always have to be careful what I put on my face and these do not bother my skin. I use Noxema as a daily face wash.
  8. Have you flown Ryanair before? Love it for the prices but do try and get to the front of the line if you did not pay for priority seating. Some of thsoe flights get very full and the seats are not assigned. Our family has been seperated on the flights on many occasion. If you are taking a checked bag, make sure you have checked in 45 minutes prior to departure...
  9. In your reading you may have already learned that you could be tested now, results come back negative, test again in a year and the results could be positive. I don't know why the testing is so inaccurate but it is and even docs will tell you that it is hard to get an accurate test. My situation got real messed up because of docs not having the proper...
  10. The multi probably will not be enough, especially if you are trying to get the benefits of the iron from it. Keep taking it but you will probably have to add an extra iron supplement. I have found Gentle iron taken after breakfast with a glass of juice works well. Some people can become a bit nauseated from iron supplements but if you take it with food on...
  11. Just want to put this out there, advise given to me by my doc. I had been taking vit A in tablet form rather than in the form of cod liver oil. Doc told me there were too many health risks associated with vit A itself but in cod liver form he was very approving. He's been the only doc I have been able to talk about vits with, most just pass it off. For me...
  12. It's good you were able to pinpoint the problem. Kind of stinks but now you know how how to proceed. Hope you get to feeling better soon!
  13. I had a loss of taste, started taking zinc and it corrected it.
  14. This is an excellent question, one I have wondered myself. I too have skin tags on my feet but no new ones have cropped up yet since going gluten-free.
  15. As a register dietician I think you could be very helpful in this forum, welcome!
  16. Josh, I am 9 months into the gluten-free diet and like you it is amazing the difference that it has made in my life too. I ahve not been on here as much and then at times I realize there are epople out there suffering like you and I were in the beginning. Each one of us has issues/symptoms slightly differnt from the next person but what we can offer is our...
  17. Good for you! Do what is best for you. I have several family membrs who have never been tested and have said just what you have here, that you don't want to go thru it all just for the diagnosis. They have all improved on a gluten-free diet.
  18. And that's okay. You might try cod liver oil and just see if it makes any difference for you. That is the one supplement that my doc has said he feels everyone coudl benefit from. There are so many good benefits from cod liver oil.
  19. Good on you! You are on the right track!!
  20. You will see this indicated on packaging, that they have been manufactured in a facility contianing gluten. I have tried 2 differnt products and both made me sick so I do not suggest it. Oats some rice based cereals are a perfect example of items that are considered gluten free but unless they are certified gluten-free I do not eat them, too much chance of...
  21. I live in Germany and it just depends on where you are going. I would highly suggest that you get the card that indicates in German that you have an allergy to wheat and show this to your wait staff. If you tell them you ahve an allergy to wheat I have found they understand that. Germans are becoming more aware of gluten intolerence but so many are still...
  22. Do either ojne of your parents have vision issues, does it run in the family? Age? My husband's vision is real bad. As a young teen my daughter started having issues and we were going in every 6 months to get a new prescript, I was concerned. Eye doc told me that at a certain age the eyes will do this and the deterioration can last up to two years and then...
  23. Whey is a cheese protein and it is possible your system cannot tolerate it right now. Give it at least 2 months without dairy to allow healing. Depends on the person but it could take longer. When you introdue again, go small. If you try alternative milk sources also be very careful.....sometimes when our system is healing it is hard to tolerate the carageenan...
  24. I have used maize and have had no issues.
  25. Corn pasta doesn't mush down like the brown rice pasta does and I like the tatse better. Some of the Asian rice noodles are good but lack taste. I make my own noodles and have found gluten-free Pizza crust flour works well to keep the dough from falling apart. I mix the dough part up and then I knead the dough in a rice flour, mutli flour or in gluten...
