  1. Perhaps. But there are super/sensitive celiacs and you may be one of them. Most restaurants unless a "gluten-free zone" will get you to a degree. You also just need time to heal. And I can't take the b12 on an empty stomach. The taste and everything else just kills me.
  2. It's amazing to me that NIH document is so narrow re: DH locations, and doesn't mention low-iodine diet.
  3. Another thing, if it's DH make sure you moisturize with a gluten-free lotion. I like Vanicream. DH lesions get very dry and you must baby the skin while they heal. Dry skin is itchier, too. Probably good advice for itchy skin, period.
  4. Do they like nuts? Nut butters are healthy and filling. Some rice crackers are very good. Try Blue Diamond (think that's the name) - rice/nut mix. My family loves them. I do compromise on a few things - breakfast cereal and bread. I do buy oat cereal for my son and husband. It is gluten-free, but not since oats are usually cc'd. Anyway - my point is...
  5. Wow. Your family has really been through it. I'm glad your son has improved and hope your daughter follows quickly.
  6. Oh wow, Riceworks is TERRIBLE. Read the ingredients and look them up. Never seen such a toxic soup. Who knows, it may have been cc, too but it gave the worst reaction for a WEEK.
  7. I'm wondering if I have B12 anemia from malabsorption. I started b12 sublingual 2x per day, along with the cal/mag/vitD and now I can sleep and my hands shake less. Ugh. The eyelid twitch is less. I read that's a b12 sign.
  8. Try a low-iodine diet with the gluten-free. If it's DH that should help reduce it. It can take years to clear up DH without Dapsone (talk to your doc), bit iodine withdrawal is a good way to snuff out the fire. For info on a low-iodine diet google "thyca". They have info and a cookbook.
  9. Have you had your thyroid checked? Do you have Hashimotos? Even though you're male (I assume from your name) you can still have issues. Aside from that, take more vitamins, especially the b's, mag/cal/vitD. I find salicylates bother me - preservatives and artificial colors. A bowl of salicylate-laced gluten-free chips made me whacked out after going...
  10. Mine went wacko right before dx. I chalked it up to all the corticosteroids, antihistamines since they can cause irregularity. I started using natural progesterone cream on day 14-28 of my cycle and it straightened it out. Took about 3 months. It was obvious it was working because if I'd forget the cream I'd have immediate breakthrough bleeding. If you...
  11. My derm, as much as I like him didn't recognize my DH or associate Hashis with gluten. And hey, it may not be DH - it may be some other freaky rash that responds to gluten and iodine withdrawal. I'm rolling my eyes..... I must give him a pass - he asked over and over if I noticed patterns in what I ate...and I didn't but that's another story. He did...
  12. Is the barley growing or cut/baled? It's a matter of opinion. Some purists count hay (grown, baled on site) as "not grass fed". There's a difference between grass-fed and pastured, too. To me, the key is if they roam and eat a lot of grass. It's next to impossible to have enough pasture year-round to support a herd. And no hormones.
  13. Yep. Gotta lay off the carbs. Lucky for me cake (even gluten-free) makes me feel gross and I'm rapidly losing interest. I find replacing the carb with something good helps me tremendously. I like the 1 square trick. Going to try that!
  14. Did they do an endoscopy? And what genes did they test for?
  15. Take a good multivitamin, sublingual b complex, mag/cal/vitD. Helps my hand shakes go away.
  16. Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and the related compound butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) are phenolic compounds that are often added to foods to preserve fats. How do they preserve food? BHA and BHT are antioxidants. Oxygen reacts preferentially with BHA or BHT rather than oxidizing fats or oils, thereby protecting them from spoilage. In addition to being...
  17. Also dont be shocked that they don't know the link between DH and iodine.
  18. I've learned to not describe symptoms but to state what I want. Then again, I also ditched MD's except for my Derm, who happens to be one of the most compassionate people I've met. I've kissed a lot of frog MD's to arrive at him, and my NP. Keep on pushing. You'll get there. You can always find a great derm in Tucson .
  19. Well, did you ask of everything includes DH? I ask because it isn't a standard test. Did she say she thinks you're Dermatillomania? Does she know you're celiac and does she know you want to be tested for DH?
  20. Oh yeah. If you aren't taking vitamin supplaments, start them. Helped me shed the neuro weirdness. B complex, cal/mag, vit d, multivitamin.
  21. I was having a horrible time sleeping post gluten-free until I started sublingual b complex 2x a day. Worked like magic.
  22. Well, my dog's shampoo had wheat germ oil in it and it made my hands hurt like I'd been pruning Acacia trees (made them swell, sore, achey muscles). My facial moisturizers have "gluten sensitive" wheat in them, meaning gluten has been separated and removed and I dont have an obvious problem with it but I will not buy more. Some people have issues with...
  23. If you are allergic to wheat, antihistamines may help. Gluten intolerance (inability to process gluten) is different. Now, my dermatologist gave a powerful antihistamine for my probable DH - and it may have helped by reducing allergic reactions to other things - hayfever, etc., but I don't think it did anything for my DH. I am weaning off of it now...
  24. DH can look very different person to person. The same person can have two types of lesions, and they can change over time. I have tiny pinpricks, and if I get into something nasty - big swollen bumps filled with fluid. Don't diagnose it based on look. Diagnose it based on how it acts, biopsy, and if it recedes with iodine and gluten withdrawal.
  25. I'm fine with white wine, red gets me. Headache. Not worth it.
