  1. Add a touch of salt and lemon and butter, wilt the spinach and toss with the quinoa. Sprinkle with cheese. Also very good with arugala, too.
  2. My biopsy was supposed to be Thursday. Spoke with my derm and he wanted to postpone it because he wants fresh, new rash to biopsy. He thinks it's the best way to get a positive. So, we agreed to wait til I have another big oops and do it in the first 48 hours. That doesn't mean you can't get a good one - just his preference and my reluctance to do anything...
  3. I do take them with a meal - except the B12 that is chewable. I take it a little later. Maybe it's just a stage. I don't know..,sometimes it isn't worth worrying about....
  4. I had stomach issues 15+ years ago. Didn't get DH until 2 years ago. now I don't have stomach issues - but do have vitamin/mineral deficiencies so I know it's affected. I get neurological/depression/anxiety symptoms in addition to DH and flu-like symptoms. Lately I've been having some major gas - which is odd because it wasn't that bad before going gluten...
  5. I was reading somewhere (I think on this board) that in Europe they diagnose Celiac based on feeling better after a gluten-free diet and sick with challenge; in contrast to the US where it requires blood work, biopsy, etc. for most docs. May be worth looking into since you're going.
  6. Vitanica makes am excellent one except it has iodine in it, so I'm off that for a while. I've been taking one from Country Life and it's ok, leaves an aftertaste but doesn't bother my stomach. I don't think it absorbs as well as the Vitanica. I'm having a heck of s time with Cal/Mag/vitD tight now. I think it bugs my stomach.
  7. Open Original Shared Link Best single place.
  8. Well, what I miss most is not being able to go to NOLA and eat whatever the heck I want. Now, I can cook anything Cajun or Creole at home gluten-free (except some Antoine's stuff, etc., and King Cake gluten-free terrifies me) and convert family recipes just fine...but not being able to eat my way through NOLA makes me ache. The thought of passing up proper...
  9. If you have DH (rash from celiac disease) make sure you warn them not to use iodine during the procedure since it can cause an outbreak (especially if they gluten you).
  10. I don't know-I need to get a new thermometer and check. I just didn't know if it's a gluten-free thing.
  11. I've made a few gluten-free baked goods, primarily using King Arthur gluten-free mix. Am I crazy or are the actual cooking times 2x the recipe times? It's hard for me to judge since i just moved to a new house with a new oven... It's driving me nuts! Help!
  12. I can only stomach the chocolate chip or coconut date. The others are terrible. I LOVE Kind bars. I could live on almond coconut.
  13. In a city like Chicago there must be at least one gluten-free place that has take-out or delivery. Find it and make a call.
  14. What are the other disorders? Are they iron-related blood disorders? Thalassemia minor/beta/trait? I ask because that could be giving a low iron count, but she doesn't need iron. There's a battery of tests that indicate thalassemia trait. And "trait" people can have funny bloodwork in other areas too. That's all I have to add, other than if celiac runs...
  15. I haven't weighed...but I starting dropping immediately (I was also moving so very active). then I hit the gluten-free processed foods and was stationary. Now I'm losing again, don't have s scale but when I hit a new clothes size I'll know for sure. I have a lot of personal training appts. Left at LA Fitness - I'm going to try to use them soon since the...
  16. Strawberries, scrambled egg whites (I cheated with butter on them), oj, and hot tea.
  17. I'd get diligent about avoiding gluten and also go low-iodine for a while. Both are classic celiac/DH symptoms. I'd also find some way to get vitamins in you - super-coated, IV, whatever. Sounds like it couldn't hurt. I'd also try the SCD Diet. May help your reflux calm down.
  18. Ya know, funny you ask. I used to have breast discharge from one breast in my early 20's. They tested my prolactin levels but they were normal so they assumed no cyst. Hmmmm....
  19. I was getting pretty blue before I got on thyroid meds. If my docs would have pushed for Celiac testing (Hashis) maybe I would have known sooner. Thyroid meds pulled me out of depression, but I was still reclusive.
  20. Someone was posting about this elsewhere on the forum and there was reason to believe it could happen easily. Search and see what you come up with.
  21. What do the steroids help? Have you tried a low-iodine diet (search low iodine thyca diet)? Prednisone got rid of my DH; however it also wrecked my body - brain, adrenals, nerves, eyes, etc. I was hypoglycemic for a few months AND STONED. DH Also came roaring back after I got off of it. And I'm pretty sure my rash is DH. I took away gluten then ...
  22. And avoid salty processed foods like potato chips cause you don't know if it was iodized or not.
  23. Some sea salt more than others. Just buy a plain box of non-iodized salt and use it for a while. Yes, iodine in vitamins. Also dairy and egg yolks are high in iodine. Eat grains, beans in moderation since they MAY be depending on the soil. I'm on day 6. Ugh.
  24. Mine does both.
  25. Also, of you have a rash THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO IN ADDITION TO gluten-free IS REDUCE IODINE IN YOUR DIET. You may have DH!!!! Yes, I'm screaming because I do not want you to go through the same hell I went through on corticosteroids. It can wreak havoc on your adrenals, and they are probably already having issues from celiac.
