  1. Oh yeah, find a crutch and lean on it. Mine was Hershey's kisses - they are gluten-free. Now it's Talenti gelato and I'm winding down off that. Slowly not feeling so abused by what I can't have.
  2. Well, it's easier than you think. It's harder than you think. If you're the main cook, it's easier. If they are picky, well, pick your battles. I keep a few gluten things around like a loaf of bread, tortillas, and some instant soups and pastas. I get heevy-jeevy when they come out. Like now, my son is home sick (turned out to be allergies so he's really...
  3. Oh yes, I've been tested. I am solidly not diabetic. I know I've had issues lately stabilizing my blood sugar because of all the corticosteroids I was on.... but not really since I started gluten-free. I think I just overdid it. I hope thats it, anyway. I have noticed I've been getting more satisfaction out of smaller amounts of sweets lately....
  4. I felt so good yesterday I decided to make a Pamela's Chocolate cake. After every piece I felt a little weirder. Ok, I started eating it last night... so I didn't just sit and eat piece after piece today... its cumulative . I ate two pieces today and my arms are heavy as rocks and rubbery like rubber bands. Started getting D. My rash is nonreactive...
  5. So, after reading and reading this is how I'm going to keep myself sane. 1) gluten intolerance exists and is widespread and underdiagnosed. 2) digestive intolerance is usually labeled celiac if there are visible proof (bloodwork, endoscopy). 3) any other gluten intolerance (proven by gluten withdrawal) is labeled "intolerance". 4) DH is usually called...
  6. Some people respond to charcoal tablets, available at drugstores without an rx.
  7. Thanks. Have you seen this one? Open Original Shared Link Hope your MRI goes well.
  8. I haven't seen any articles like that. I think the patients they look at for damage are pre-determined to be gluten sensitive. Do you have the link to that online article about mri's and brain deposits, and no mri change after 1 year? I'd love it for my files and to send to family. I HAD it, now can't find it. Grrr.
  9. I found that too, now I can't find it. Do you have the link? I'd like to give it to family members. I'm referring to the article about mri's and brain damage from gluten. For some reason the quote function isn't working well.
  10. Salicylates. Figured it out today. For me it's specifically preservatives and food colors, especially RED. Salicylate intolerance goes with DH.
  11. Some of your rashes look like mine, ESPECIALLY when I was using corticosteroids. Now that I'm off, they are more typically DH. I have Hasimotos, have responded very well to gluten-free diet, and am supposed to have my rash biopsied in about a week-if there's one there. I've decided not to purposely gluten myself. I enjoy LIVING. I also think I'm sensitive...
  12. You may try a Naturapath who specializes on endocrinology. That's what mine does , and she really takes time to listen and to review your history. Made all the difference for me. And here's how the good diary helps. Today I figured out I may be sensitive to salicylites. That's what happens when you cross notes on Little Debbie Swiss Rolls with Riceworks...
  13. Your rash may be the "celiac rash" Dermatitis Herpetiformis. You may be reacting to trace gluten, or getting gluten from somewhere you think is safe. Or, your body may just be tossing the DH out there. Dermatitis and eczema is common in autoimmune patients. Try using mild cleansers, etc. Keep a diary and calendar about when and what sets the rash off....
  14. Do you know where you are going? Call ahead and make arrangements beforehand. That would help. Yes, just downplay it but be safe.
  15. Genetic testing. That will tell your Dad if he carries the genes...thus indicating gluten can be the culprit. Listen, either people want to feel better or they don't. Tests for celiac come back negative all the time, yet the patient improves off gluten. I'm hitting the same wall with my parents so I know where you're at.
  16. Gluten makes me crazy. Literally. May make you crazy too. Write yourself instructions and tape them to the walls. Seriously. Start with "get rid of gluten products".
  17. You need to find a Whole Foods Market (grocery chain), or Trader Joe's (grocery chain). You'll find Whole Foods in TX - they are based in Austin. Eat at more upscale restaurants - they tend to cook with whole food, so they can alter the meals. Also, therese be celiac support groups in the areas you're visiting, google it. Locals can help alot.
  18. I get muscle cramps from gluten. That said, vitamin deficiencies do it to most people, too. I'd also try a good digestive enzyme like enzymedica digest gold, along with a good probiotic like pb8. I have mostly neurological and DH symptoms from gluten, but know my digestive system suffers. They both help tremendously.
  19. Oh I can sympathize. Last night was a work party...drank vodka and soda...it was the grain vodka or the soda. I was absolutely lethargic all day.
  20. I'm sorry. Years ago I had acid reflux and NOTHING helped except meditation and visualization. I literally "imagined" the pain moving out of my body through my arms and out my fingers. The brain is a powerful thing. But definitely try to eat mild, simple foods, drink lots of water, and keep a food log. It should get better. Sublingual vitamins might...
  21. Thanks eatmeat4good, yes I read that. Mine is low iodine and I'm waiting to hear back from my dr. for a no-iodine reco. My rash went away last week, till I got glutened so I dont think I'm as sensitive as most...but I'm not eating other high iodine food just in case. I really notice my energy drops if I don't take them...worth the risk right now.
  22. Of you feel like crap, and you know your thyroid meds relieve those symptoms, beat your doc over the head til s/he temporarily ups it. Geez! Why make you miserable?? Make sure you're getting enough good food, and take a supplement! I am taking biogenesis adrenal support and professional botanicals female gland balance, and using progesterone cream,...
  23. Charcoal tablets work for some, but don't know if they will since it's been a while. You can get them at the drugstore, no rx. I know it's kinda like the big that bit ya, but got some vodka? Also, lots of caffeine in Excedrin (which is why it reduces swelling). That should help the headache.
  24. I was terribly depressed until I started thyroid supplementation, about 6 years ago. Do you have Hashoimotos antibodies? Gluten and thyroid problems are frequently linked; in Hashis its thought gluten causes Hashis. Of course, that was news to me recently. Living with a chronic illness is very difficult, and I'm sure forging a relationship in the midst...
  25. It's hard to tell. Take the advice above and pick one thing to add back at a time. DH can take YEARS to go away on a gluten-free diet. My DH (what I'm pretty sure is DH, waiting for biopsy) looked different when I was on corticosteroids. It masked the typical look and action of it. Getting off them can be terrible, but maybe necessary. Cut out doses...
