ARCHIVED Alcohol And Leaky Gut
pricklypear1971 replied to Blaze422's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Blaze, I'd love to but I don't know what you mean. Are you taking an iodine supplament? Was that an autocorrect typo that should have been digestive enzyme? -

ARCHIVED More Testing For Younger Son?
pricklypear1971 replied to ArPlasma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son decorates himself with all band aids. If his arm hurts, it needs a band aid (eye roll). My son has mild dermagraphia - so all band aids leave a temporary mark. So do back scratches.... I notice when he's sick or allergies are high the dermagraphia is worse. -

I have no idea about the leaky gut (and alcohol undoing progress)....but I can tell you to proceed with caution when you do decide to take your first (few) drinks. Somewhere on this board is my Wine Tasting Story, which isn't pretty. In short, when Celiacs heal something (can) happens with the metabolism or absorption of it when we start drinking again... -
ARCHIVED Negative Test Results, Case History, Thoughts?
pricklypear1971 replied to Thursdaysangel77's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You definitely need a full thyroid panel along with a full celiac panel. Incomplete testing is worse than no testing IMO, since it can leave you with the (perhaps false) impression you are negative. I think what is must telling is you went into remission while pregnant. THAT is a strong hint there's autoimmune involvement....and your doctor probably knows...- 10 replies

ARCHIVED So Discouraged, Hypoclycemic And Stomach Inflamation
pricklypear1971 replied to CynthiaSt's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been gluten-free almost three years. In the beginning, my stomach hurt and I was nauseous over many things. It took me six months to discover my "glutening symptoms"...headache/allergy feeling and cannonball in my stomach. At around 9 months-1 year it switched to stomach punch and two weeks of acid stomach. The hypoglycemia came in around 9 months?.... -
ARCHIVED So Discouraged, Hypoclycemic And Stomach Inflamation
pricklypear1971 replied to CynthiaSt's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The cracker/water wasn't low carb but it worked for acid. At the time I didn't have many hypoglycemic symptoms (at least that I recognized). Plain water upon waking helped quite a bit (chug 8 oz). And yes, first thing in the morning was awful. Water by the bed, chug chug chug. You could make some high protein crackers out of nuts or coconut or quinoa if... -
ARCHIVED So Discouraged, Hypoclycemic And Stomach Inflamation
pricklypear1971 replied to CynthiaSt's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I understand the stomach acid/hypo thing. I had two smallish ulcers at one point....they have me the typical meds for it...I didn't take them very long because I did better going what felt right....like drinking milk shakes . I'm a weird one whose stomach was better with milk. Anyway, I learned to drink 8 oz of water with a cracker upon waking, and regularly... -

ARCHIVED Sensory Processing Disorder And Gluten?
pricklypear1971 replied to raea2002's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have no experience with Sensory Processing Disorder but if he's chronically and severely constipated he may need some help in the beginning. He may need a laxative of some type to loosen things up. -
ARCHIVED So Discouraged, Hypoclycemic And Stomach Inflamation
pricklypear1971 replied to CynthiaSt's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I want to point something out that is key. Hypoglycemia can be caused by various underlying conditions. The tie between thyroid hormones: t3/rt3 is very real for me and many others. I would experience good periods without hypoglycemia, but in the end it would keep recurring without elevating t3 and lowering rt3. I could (and did) eat the best, highest... -
ARCHIVED Fibromyalgia Anyone?
pricklypear1971 replied to angieInCA's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You're quite welcome. I'd never heard Fibro referred to as anything other as ai...learn something every day. I understand your desire to see a neuro endocrinologist, but if you don't have success, a good ND would probably prescribe thyroid treatment. You may not get anything else out of the relationship, but you would probably get willingness to try. -
ARCHIVED So Discouraged, Hypoclycemic And Stomach Inflamation

I do advise doing it first thing in the am, regardless of fasting. And fasting would mean not eating breakfast before you do the draw. -
ARCHIVED So Discouraged, Hypoclycemic And Stomach Inflamation
pricklypear1971 replied to CynthiaSt's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's a blood panel. You don't have to fast, but most do especially when on thyroid medications. You take thyroid replacement medication - a hormone. The meds themselves are quite benign without side effects. The trick is finding dosage and brand that works for you. -
ARCHIVED Fibromyalgia Anyone?
pricklypear1971 replied to angieInCA's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, both are autoimmune diseases...if they don't see that connection I think you need new doctors. The most interesting thing I've seen about fibro lately is this article: Open Original Shared Link I hope you find relief, soon. -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Testing While Gluten Free?
pricklypear1971 replied to cassP's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I heard this, too. Though it was *should*, not would....and it didn't. Bottom line is this....if your thyroid is undertreated and thyroid disease is raging, and significant damage has been done then your antibodies will probably be up because of your thyroid. If your thyroid was well treated, and disease was early going gluten-free will be more likely... -

pricklypear1971 replied to CynthiaSt's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Please get a complete thyroid panel and rest free t3, free t 4, reverse t3, and antibodies. If you have insukin resistance or too low if t3 that could be contributing to the hypoglycemia. -
ARCHIVED Intro; Reaction To Thyroid Medication?; Or Hope To Share?
pricklypear1971 replied to paints's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You need to know the name brand of what you took and call the manufacturer and find out if it has gluten in it. Of you have issues with all grains, ask if they use those grains as fillers. That said, if they claim it's gluten-free (and other grain free you have issues with)try another brand. They all use different fillers and that, and other mysteries unknown...- 10 replies

Construction dust - if it happens to be sheetrock spakle or joint compound with wheat in it - it's superfine and gets everywhere!!!!! Not all if it has it in it, but enough does that it's a real threat. Lets put it this way....it's the equivalent of tossing flour all over your kitchen. Clean the whole house accordingly. I am NOT kidding. I got into something... -
ARCHIVED Can Constipation Make You Toxic?
pricklypear1971 replied to Juliebove's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've heard statements like that before, even from mainstream doctors- that with a bunch of poop sitting in your body all of the 'bad stuff' is still in there and it makes you sick - not just uncomfortable. I noticed when I started working out my skin underwent a change - it got clearer and brighter. I swear it was the sweating and circulation increase.... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else ?
pricklypear1971 replied to Aquadan005's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep. Neither my husband nor I exhibit the trait but obviously we carry it because he has it. My MIL, her brother and a cousin exhibit the trait. I'm sure others do, too, but those are the ones we know of. He's perfectly healthy but his CBC panel is alarming. -
ARCHIVED Tortilla Press

I'd just order it. I found I can freeze flat things like that by putting parchment paper between them and stacking. Did it with pancakes... They pull apart beautifully. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else ?
pricklypear1971 replied to Aquadan005's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not sure about the hematologist UNLESS your doc suspects a blood disorder. My son has thalassemia trait and his bloodwork is a MESS. He looks anemic but since the thal messes up his blood cell shape, etc. it is almost impossible to figure out if he needs iron or not. We do need to see a hematologist because most docs can't figure it out AND if you give...
