  1. Do you bake with coconut and almond flour? Lots of healthy fats there.
  2. In 'up to 32 patients'. Thirty two????? "The Phase 1/2 study is a two-part (single and repeated), double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose escalation study of BL-7010 in up to 32 patients. The primary objective of the study is to assess the safety of single and repeated ascending doses of BL-7010 in well-controlled celiac patients. Secondary objectives...
  3. But what happens if you STOP the seaweed and other high iodine foods? That's the big question, since you're eating so much. I wished many times for Dr. House. If they didn't specifically look for iga pattern dh they wouldn't see it. You'd have to ask the lab if the correct biopsy/solution was used and if it was looked at (dh is a visual dx of stained...
  4. There are other autoimmune skin rashes that are bilateral. I don't know if that's good or bad news. I've always said not to judge a rash for dh based on appearance, but by reaction. Do you react to iodine rich foods like egg yolks, asparagus, seaweed? If you react (rash flares) that's an indicator of dh. Have you read about differential diagnoses for...
  5. I don't know....but I do know that gluten damage does not work the way your doctor is describing. Ut uh. Different parts/systems recover at different rates...then that varies from person to person.
  6. I'd concentrate, in the beginning, on adding healthy fats. Nuts sound good. Eggs? I did well on leafy greens and veggies, but that's an issue for you. What about fattier cuts of meat? It isn't all about carbs...and adding carbs without protein or fat will probably make your glucose swing (which sucks). Only you can decide if kefir is ok. Try it slowly and...
  7. Contrary to what seems to be perceived, there isn't a "Celiac Club Card". You don't have to give a medical history to everyone you meet, or even prove it to doctors. Also, you can get all of the nutrient and other autoimmune tests run regardless of knowing you are Celiac. You can test your genes, as mentioned above, to see if they add to the case....
  8. From personal experience I can tell you that kids and gluten (them being the custodians of it) is the worst thing to try to work around. They track it everywhere, touch everything, leave crumbs, lick things (and each other), and refuse to wash with soap. In short, I don't suggest giving them gluten in the house. I advise looking at gluten as the contaminating...
  9. I get the Leaning Tower of Pisa /can't walk effect at its worst. I get nausea, sort of slow-motion with a hint of spinning, most often with allergies. I can move around and do things but want to vomit on them, and get a terrible headache. Helps if I sit up/move around but not too much. I think I get fluid in my ear, and sitting up helps it drain.
  10. I get it, occasionally. I think bits associated with inflammation - for me, tmj from having my wisdom teeth removed ( one side was impacted and they messed up my jaw in that side). I notice I'm more likely to get vertigo when allergies are bad (and tmj is bad). I have luck with massage for my tmj, which relaxes the ligaments/tendons and relaxes everything...
  11. Have you seen pics of plaque psoriasis? Do you think your lesions look like that?
  12. I'm sorry, that looks so uncomfortable. That reminds me of plaque psoriasis. Did you have the plaque when you went to the doctor?
  13. I think it IS frustrating when you don't understand how/when to provide "safe" (translate to "good enough") food to your guests. And let's face it, for every polite or reasonable request for gluten-free options or info there is a rude or ridiculous one. I ordered gluten-free sushi and asked additional questions (because I got hit the time before after...
  14. Yeah, fats help stabilize my glucose. Ironically why I've always favored high fat sweets (cheesecake, ice cream). Not necessarily high sugar sweets...just high fat. Love me some fat, evidently!!!!
  15. I had to eat every few hours. I had to eat a protein+veggie, one that didn't convert to sugar. I had to eat fruits cautiously, as well as carbs. I know you're extremely limited in foods right now but potatoes and sweet potatoes and rice convert to sugar quickly. This may be part of your problem. I'd definitely eat protein with them. In the end, I can...
  16. The biopsy for dh is a punch biopsy taken next to the lesion on clear skin. It can not be accurately read any other way. If she's been on steroids at all in the last three or so months, it could make the tests (blood and biopsy) falsely negative. Steroids are used to treat autoimmune diseases so it could be troublesome for several tests. I'm sorry she...
  17. I'm a fixer. My husband was very, infinitely patient and never complained about a gluten-free house. Though, he has said "no thanks" to some gluten-free bread and odd concoctions. I don't blame him. That said, I was the proactive one.... You know how to relate to her, figure out how to cue in on what she'll listen to. Perhaps if she reads stories from...
  18. You've heard the saying "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink." Yeah. I would ask her if she's willing to undergo blood testing again. If yes, get her in there ASAP with a complete list if tests. If no, there is one thing you can do that may or may not end your relationship..... It is a well known fact that if a gluten sensitive...
  19. Just in case you have a trader joes nearby, I bought their peppermint bark and it was awesome. Yes, I are something with mint in it!!!
  20. Well, lots of chefs will agree that the non-choice (not prime) cuts if meat are sometimes the tastiest. Generally, bony/fatty cuts are great in stews, pots of beans, etc. nowadays, the problem is finding those cuts...since most stores sell boneless, choice cuts. Shop the coupon flyers for deals. Some butchers let soup bones go pretty cheap or free when you...
  21. We don't know. There's lots of paperwork out there where Hashis patients struggle with d and iron (which are ironically imperative for meds to work). I haven't found a study showing if this is because of celiac disease or Hashis. I did find something about how hypothyroid patients don't transmit nutrients well, which contributes - this is at the cellular...
  22. I'm sincerely happy to hear you're improving. Just a note - I swing hypoglycemic when my adrenals and thyroid are off. Eating regularly (protein+fiber you can handle) helps stabilize glucose andvmakesxadrenals happy. Do NOT skip a meal. Next up is thyroid - you may have something going on there. If you continue to have issues have them test free t3/t4,...
  23. I can't gain and hold D or iron, which is a major issue because of my thyroid. This week my doc finally put me on 50k iu LIQUID D3/week for a while. I take 25k 2x a week. You probably can't absorb pulls very well - Cekiac can do that. She has several Celiac/Hashis patients that are stuck like this. We are focusing now more on rebuilding gut and calming...
  24. Whew. So what are they doing for her thyroid? As someone with both celiac and hashis I can attest that the symptoms overlap greatly, and the hashis can make her more miserable than the celiac (after she's gluten-free).
