  1. They hurt like the devil but the relief is unbelievable. After appropriate torture I could stand flat with weight evenly distributed and walk straight. The worst thing about pf, to me, was how I altered my body to accommodate and that gave me pain down my legs and back. If you try them, concentrate on the instep and the outer edge. Literally bend...
  2. Well, it looks like he may have had a stomach bug. Because I think I have a stomach bug. What are the odds my symptoms are the same as his, right after his, and these kinds of symptoms are not consistent with my gluten symptoms? He had gluten symptoms before the bug, just not as steady and as severe. His D was periodic, some vomiting, cramping before...
  3. Two words. Untreated hypothyroidism. There's a strong association. If you are bring treated for thyroid, maybe consider it isn't addressing all of your symptoms. Personally, I couldn't wear any shoes that didn't fasten around my heel - like flip flops. I also was madly in love with these little torture devices. They work. Open Original Shared...
  4. I had to cancel my workout with the trainer tomorrow. Figured that would be ugly. My stomach has been weird most of the day, took til evening to experience the full effect. I hope it isn't like this tomorrow. Food does not sound interesting. I don't advise carbonated sodas. That seemed to set me off tonight, and aggravated my son's, too.
  5. Probiotics and digestive enzymes. I think we have the same thing. My son started it Monday night. I thought it was his gluten symptoms going nuts (he isn't gluten-free, we're still testing). Until this evening when at a dinner party I got D and cramping and nausea...and since I've only eaten my own cooking for the last 2 days (and it doesn't feel like...
  6. I'm big on self preservation so I eat. I learned a long time ago it's better for me to eat - my list of "waited too long to eat" problems is longer than the "no eating" list. I'm going to assume you ate cashews that you are guessing were cc'd with wheat? Cashews, for me, are a hard nut (hah!) to find not processed in a wheat sharing facility.
  7. Topical corticosteroids brought mine down - reduced swelling and seeping but I think it interfered with healing. So, use at your own risk. I am an ice pack person. Pressure/compression helps when the blisters are swelling and popping. DON'T RUB. Roll a towel up and press on the area. I had to keep mine moisturized 24/7; the need increased with the...
  8. Oh Bart. Still convinced you had a bug? Because I think I have it. My son has had gi problems the last two days we assumed was possible Celiac symptoms escalating...and whammo, his are improved and now I'm sick. If he wouldn't have had it I would have assumed I'd eaten something I shouldn't. Doesn't feel like gluten, feels like Junior Mints. ...
  9. Ice packs. Others have used Walgreen's benzocaine. And a shot of tequila doesn't hurt, either.
  10. No, we've kept him on it since his labs came back negative last year. He's having a problem with something. Definitely.
  11. Well, who knows if it's gluten. But what are the odds, right? He does like mint tea. I'll try ginger and see. He only gets gliten at school or when out. Until yesterday, when I bought him junky gluten food. The D, etc. was going strong before that, though. I'll see if digestive enzymes work, but I'm wondering if those will break down the gluten?...
  12. Ok, need help. Son is showing rapid degradation in GI symptoms and we are having blood drawn next week, GI appt. early Oct. I can't take him off gluten, so I need advice to help with stomach aches, cramping, "hot flashes", and now chronic D. Advice? Giving him probiotics and crackers to snack on.
  13. A good probiotic and a good digestive enzyme certainly wouldn't hurt. You should also add natually cultured foods like sauerkraut, cultured pickles, kefir (you can buy coconut), coconut yogurt, etc. as much variety as you can. I know kids aren't generally big on sauerkraut, but if you can sneak it in somewhere.. The fact that you've seen so much improvement...
  14. Get copies of all dermatology labs. You may be surprised at what you find. An NP could biopsy it correctly, of she has the equipment. You need a magnifying glass to find the true clear skin, IMO. If you respond to dapsone its an indicator. If you still don't know and govgf without testing, if it responds to iodone withdrawal that's another indicator...
  15. Having one dose of gluten per week is not the protocol for Celiac challenge. It is possible to have Celiac without the dq2/8 but I think it's in the 1% range, according to current publications/research.
  16. What lab ran the report? Call them. If you were gluten-free before testing all accuracy goes out the window. If gluten makes you feel bad, you have a problem with gluten. You are probably NCGS if not Celiac. Don't eat it.
  17. And if you are shocked that Dad has come into the equation genetically - imagine my hubs surprise when my sons half gene came from HIM. We know that because it's a half gene I don't have .
  18. Your genes do not change. The bigger question is are you really gene negative? I don't see your gene test results here. Some labs only test the alpha portion of the genes - genes are made of alpha and beta. You have 4 chances to have a half a Celiac gene. For example - I am half dq2, half dq8. If tgey had only reported or tested for alphas...
  19. No. A TSH of 5.7 can give you every nasty symptom of hypothyroidism on the planet, especially exhaustion and c. You need to be tested for Hashis antibodies, and at least try thyroid replacement therapy. It may be the problem, not extraneous gluten.
  20. Ok. Went to the grocery store for gluten. Figured he may as well eat some of the stuff I never bring home because it may be his only opportunity. Came home with Twinkies, Goldfish, pretzels and Pop Tarts. He is in heaven, except he has very bad D. Discovered that he snuck the remaining two small bottles of Weinhard's Orange Cream Soda that he wasn...
  21. Not really. All you can do is try. Yes, it's frustrating. Did that doctor day he was ordering a DH test? He lied to you?
  22. You need a recipe for wheat bread, that is raised with yeast. Most general recipes are wheat breads, raised with yeast. Just google for a recipe called "easy homemade bread" or something like that. The key is the flour. You need to find something that meets your elimination criteria - organic, non bromated, etc. Here, this would be easy...
  23. Do not judge if you have DH by pictures of others rashes. Judge it by your reaction to gluten. If gluten makes it flare, that's a strong sign. If you are sensitive to iodine (meaning ingesting iodine makes it flare) that's another sign. Theoretically, a biopsy is the best bet (better to do it on gluten and quickly if you are going off). Gluten can cause...
  24. So, My son has been having more frequent stomach aches and D. Enough that he openly talks to me about it. We had a convo last night and it sounds like he's tired of it and is willing to do something about it. So.....I am picking up the lab order for his annual antibody testing next week at my appointment...and we have an appointment at UA Pediatric...
  25. I don't know if I've seen a study that examined % of the false positives from other AI diseases. Bottom line, lots of people with Hashis are Celiac. That's what the endoscopy and gluten-free trial are for. Perhaps you can search PubMed, etc.and you can find a study or article?
