ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerence And Thyroid Problems
tiredofdoctors replied to tiffjake's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
mvaught: I'm starting to believe the same with regard to thyroid conditions. I was first diagnosed with an "enlarged thyroid" at age 12-13 with normal TSH T3, T4. It is NOT normal, however, for a kid to have a goiter! I was also this very hyperactive, skinny kid who had diarrhea ALL THE TIME. They blamed it on the fact that I had to be on antibiotics... -
ARCHIVED Veterinarians, Wish They Were An Option.
tiredofdoctors replied to Rusla's topic in Doctors
My brother-in-law has a farm (cattle, sheep, chickens) -- did you know that over 20 years ago, veterinarians knew that e-pylori caused ulcers and that antibiotics were the correct treatment? Human docs found that out, what, 8 years ago???? My brother-in-law has a farm (cattle, goats, chickens) -- did you know that over 20 years ago, veterinarians knew... -
Don't have time to post my tons of bad doctor stories now, but I have to tell you, I love the name of the thread, the comments have been hilarious, and I think this is GREAT!!!!! Lynne

ARCHIVED Veterinarians, Wish They Were An Option.

That was good! My teacup toy won't even look at me after the vet takes her temp -- she is so furious with me! My mom scared me to death a couple of months ago -- I had a fever and was at her house -- I asked her where the thermometer was -- she told me, I cleaned it with alcohol, and as I was using it, she said "I hope that's not Sugar's thermometer... -
ARCHIVED Test And Doctor
tiredofdoctors replied to FairySprinkle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Louisville, KY -- if you live anywhere close, I would highly recommend this practice. My MD's name was Martin Mark. They have on staff a celiac specialist, Dr. Adler, who read and re-read my biopsies and bloodwork. They are awesome. BTW: Biopsies for celiac are down down your throat. They give you liquid to numb the back of your throat, give you some... -
ARCHIVED Is This Normal?
tiredofdoctors replied to Pois's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think it's normal . . . I just got "glutened" because my husband had to go on a business trip unexpectedly in the middle of the day (get your stuff, fly out, the client is furious) -- but had eaten Penn Station subs for lunch. With lots of kissing prior to him leaving, and him not flossing beforehand . . . I ended up with increased symptoms this entire... -
ARCHIVED How Long From First Visit To Actual Biopsy?
tiredofdoctors replied to flampton's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Eric -- I saw the GI doc on Thursday, got my antitranglutaminase and antiendomysial antibody tests drawn that day, and had my scope (I believe) the next Tuesday. Including the colonoscopy, too. (BTW: If they schedule both, they DON'T think it's funny if you ask them that if they're going to use the same tube, would they put it down your throat first... -
ARCHIVED Endocrinologist Appt From Hell
tiredofdoctors replied to slpinsd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks! Actually, you must be a mind-reader, because I am looking for a (competent) accupuncturist in our area. The guy who was the BEST passed away unexpectedly a couple of years ago, and there has been no one with his knowledge / skill in our area since. We have a lot of the "I took a 5 day course in acupuncture, so now I know everything" practitioners... -
ARCHIVED Anti-gliadin Numbers...
tiredofdoctors replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks Shirley -- I didn't even think of that! My husband is pretty much gluten-free, too -- we don't have very much gluten-containing food in the house anymore -- BUT -- he gets subs, etc. at work, and grazes on them during the day. I'll bet that's EXACTLY what happened! You are so smart . . . .Lynne -

ARCHIVED Gloves
tiredofdoctors replied to Firegirl43's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Don't know for sure, but I think it's a valid question. I think the most pressing question would be whether powdered gloves contain gluten. I have read that some forms of talc incorporate wheat into their final product -- I don't know if this is the case in the powder which is used in gloves. With regard to pure Latex, my understanding is that it does... -
I'm in. Tell me what you need/want and what format, and I'll try to do my best. I'm trying now to develop a "compassion" program for med students here locally. They're always looking for speakers, and I figure a disabled physical therapist is as good as any for rallying the compassion vote!

ARCHIVED Pizza Crust!
tiredofdoctors replied to SueC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Get out of town! You found gluten-free pizza crust at SuperTarget??? That is GREAT! In what town do you live? I may ask our store to order it . . . Thanks for the heads up . . . . Lynne -
ARCHIVED New Comer

Gant -- I'm sure that if you had a questionnaire that you wanted completed, most of the people on the forum would be happy to help. There are a lot of great people who "talk" on here! . . . Lynne -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerence And Thyroid Problems
tiredofdoctors replied to tiffjake's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My initial treatment was just to take Synthroid. It increased the levels of thyroid hormone in my system so that my thyroid didn't have to work so hard. It GREATLY reduced the size of the thyroid. Once the idiot endocrinologist I had to see took me off it, I begin having tons of trouble, then had to have it removed. Prior to that, though, treatment was... -

The true Agave tequilas are really good -- had a chance to try them in Mexico. How pricey are the brands you listed??? -
ARCHIVED Swedish Fish?
tiredofdoctors replied to flagbabyds's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
YEA!!!!! Also, Dots (tropical and regular) are gluten-free; Tootsie-roll industries states that all their products are gluten-free (including Charms blow-pops, junior mints, junior caramels . . . ) -
ARCHIVED Gf Deodorant
tiredofdoctors replied to HAPPY DOG SUZ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tiffany -- thanks for posting that. I have always wondered about the crystal and obviously, you don't want to go around asking everybody about their deodorant! I'm glad to know it works -- I'm getting it tomorrow! . . . Lynne -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Alcohol
tiredofdoctors replied to swatson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Felidae: I'm with you. I really like trying different kinds of beer. Since that's been taken from me, I take life with a grain of salt, a shot of tequila and slice of lime! -
ARCHIVED Anti-gliadin Numbers...
tiredofdoctors replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know that mine have fluctuated. I started at either 34 or 36, then went down to 24, then went up to 60. I'm going to be tested in March because it will be 6 months that I have been gluten-free. If it's still at 60, I'm going to be really frustrated, because I have been more compliant with this diet than I have been compliant with ANY medical treatment... -
ARCHIVED Endocrinologist Appt From Hell
tiredofdoctors replied to slpinsd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had to have my thyroid removed (completely) because of Hashimoto's which got out of control. (read previous post about the horrible endocrinologist I saw) It caused a humongous growth of my thyroid in an attempt to keep the level of thyroid hormone I needed. In addition, it became cystic, with hemorrhaging within them -- making it a higher cancer risk... -
ARCHIVED Veterinarians, Wish They Were An Option.
tiredofdoctors replied to Rusla's topic in Doctors
I think that your thread name is superb! I actually told our veterinarian that if, by any chance, he would start treating people I would be his first patient. Think about it -- vets don't even have the benefit of having their patients tell them what hurts! And 99.9% of the time, they're right! We have a food tax deduction here, but not an across the board... -
ARCHIVED Bad Experience W/ Doctor= Please Give Me Some Guidance If You Can!
tiredofdoctors replied to jessika393's topic in Doctors
I'm concerned that the "allergy" MD didn't explore your condition further. Usually, they specialize in "Allergy and Immunology", and given that Celiac is an autoimmune disease, they should have been right on it. I would find out if this MD specializes in "Allergy & Immunology", and if so, I would report him/her to the medical board in your state. There...
