  1. I was making pancakes for supper. I had the dry ingredients all ready and the wet just about ready when the power went out. The power company said 4 hours so I'm headed to In N Out for my dinner. I'm thinking double double, fries and a chocolate shake. I got my pancakes put away by candlelight and they'll hold until tomorrow.
  2. It's just a truck, it's replaceable. I'll drive in a lot of things but ice is not one of them. That is under my list of never, ever. Which is why I love Utah so much, we don't get ice. Just snow. You can keep your beach. It has been in the 20s with sun, which is perfect winter weather. Everything is white and it truly feels Christmasy. I absolutely...
  3. I was going to come say the same thing about Kraft. They have a clear disclosure policy on gluten in products, so I always just read labels with them.
  4. I did notice in videos that the millet is a different color. Does the red one taste different? Maybe I need to internet shop...
  5. You always have the most wonderful little nuggets of random information that I find insanely useful! Ragi roti sounds wonderful and I'd never heard of it. Thanks!
  6. I think this is half the country right now. Open Original Shared Link On the bright side, even if it's only about 15 right now the sun is out. With the sun it has actually gotten warm enough to melt a lot of the snow and it feels positively wonderful outside. Yay! For the short time the sun was in our back yard our thermometer read about 34. Went straight...
  7. My winter showers are generally hot enough to turn me pink. It isn't particularly toasty in the house and I don't get to control the thermostat, but what I can control is my shower temp. It's a rare occasion that I heat style or blow dry so I think I'll make it to spring when cooler showers are my norm.
  8. I got a phone call to let me know that my biopsy was positive for celiac. I know it's probably nearly impossible to believe, but I didn't even know I'd had a biopsy. I was devastated. I, a grown woman in my 30s, promptly went to my room and cried myself to sleep. Not crying like normal, blubbering like an idiot, racking sobs with snot running down my face...
  9. So, I'm listening to Christmas music on pandora this morning and this happens to come on. I thought it was perfect to share here. Open Original Shared Link
  10. In case no one knew, today is NATIONAL BROWNIE DAY! Have a brownie, it's practically a rule.
  11. My mom and I always made Christmas cookies together. We would spend entire days, sunup to dinner in the kitchen making cookies of all sorts. One of the types we made 100% of the time was chocolate cookies with chocolate chips. I saw this recipes this morning and it looks interesting. I know a lot of people are entirely grain free and this will give them cookies...
  12. Get better! Sometimes our hurling isn't from gluten so maybe it was something else? I'll live in denial with you. Not a lot of places have Daisy around here. It's weird. But we have a "local" large dairy called Darigold and Costco carries a 3 pound tub of their sour cream that I picked up this week. Two ingredients. My husband was all "do we really...
  13. Earlier this week my husband was joking about hating something I cooked. Then he was like "and I hate your meatloaf too!" I was like omg, we haven't had meatloaf in forever! So, I put it on our menu, it's meatloaf night. I love meatloaf so much, it's such a comfort food. And it's perfect for our cold weather. I think I'll make some brown sugar squash and...
  14. If I get those holiday gift packs, I simply act delighted. The simple fact is that many of them are a combination of food and non-food items. For instance, the mugs and cocoa sets. With something like the cocoa sets, I would keep the mugs and if my gluten eating husband didn't want the cookies and I couldn't have the cocoa for some reason I would simply donate...
  15. Hahaha! No one here knows how to drive in the rain either, which I totally get because it rarely rains here. But we get what I don't even call rain and people are all going 20 in 40 zones acting like it's a foot of snow. I avoid driving in the rain because it makes me want to strangle people. Our foot Monday was fine, it fell, they plowed, everything was...
  16. True x100! Laughter. The only medicine that treats celiac.
  17. I always find that hilarious! If you don't watch the weather closely you'll find out that you have gone to the store to get milk because it happens to be on your grocery list and there IS NONE! So you ask and are like wth and they're all "there's a storm" and look at you like you're a moron for not having come at 6 in the morning because obviously they were...
  18. I always am astounded by the amount of things soy is in. I consider myself beyond fortunate that I can get away with lecithin without ill effects, but the tradeoff is that I can't do the oil which doesn't have to be listed as an allergen. I've never tried any BC products because of the soy but this is great news. While they're always a little pricey, I have...
  19. Yesterday at Costco I saw huge bags of BRM steel cut oats. They were a good price, and I guessed that they were regular but wanted to see if they were gluten free, just in case. (Not that anyone does steel cut for anything approaching a reasonable price. ) My husband grabbed a bag and held it out to me to take, knowing in the back of my mind they wouldn't...
  20. My gluten eating husband would probably end up way more paranoid about this than me. I would just fish it out of the water and forget it ever happened. This has turned into a joke in my house with my husband. I'll make a cross with my fingers and ward him off and he'll hiss at me. As long as I remember it's just a joke I remember not to be too paranoid...
  21. Also, I use cornstarch on my cheese when I shred it. I imagine that using any starch would work though. I only use cornstarch because I buy it in 25 pound bulk bags for way less than I pay for my other starches. I probably end up using probably around 2-3 teaspoons for a pound of cheese, or something like that. I just sprinkle a little on after each bit I...
  22. I forgot you're down there in ice country. I have family down there and they say it's crazy bad. Thankfully though no one seems to have lost power over this whole thing. Stay warm!
  23. I'd be bigger around than I am tall if I worked in a candy store. See's candies are good stuff too, it's a good thing they're at a far end in our mall or I'd always get some when I go. We ran errands today, and it ended up taking longer than expected because we did Christmas stuff too. After 7 hours on the go I was in so much pain I was barely capable...
  24. So true! A few weeks ago it was in the 20s for a week and it was windy and bitter and I couldn't stand it at all. Today it was in the 20s and was a perfectly lovely day. I didn't mind at all until the sun went down. Hope it warms up a bit for everyone soon! At least a bit above freezing.
  25. It got up to 13 yesterday. Today it's supposed to be up to the low or mid 20s. Woohoo? Taking advantage of the "warmer" of the days we're getting and doing my grocery shopping today. At least I can hit more than one store buying frozen things and not have to come back home. We're supposed to get more snow tomorrow. I agree they should cancel the parade...
