ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed....not Really Sure What To Do Now.
Adalaide replied to TheHeartRN's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I spent about a year babysitting my cousin from right after his first birthday until right before his second. During that time he was 100% gluten free in our house and was here for a bit over 40 hours a week. A toddler doesn't need things like bread or gluteny cereals to survive, he was as happy as a toddler could be expected to be learning to test limits... -

I used to eat a taco seasoning that has both soybeans and yeast something other in it. That is when I discovered Nueva Cocina. After trying it the first time I am so spoiled that I frankly have no interest in anything else. I never did like McCormick to be perfectly honest. http://www.nuevacocina.com/store/2375/Taco-Fresco.aspx That is what I use, or did... -
ARCHIVED Domino's Gluten Free Pizza
Adalaide replied to phillysmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Domino's has a disclaimer on their own site saying that celiacs shouldn't eat their pizza. I wouldn't eat it and I certainly wouldn't feed it to a child. This will get easier, it just takes time. You'll either be able to learn to make pizza at home from scratch (which is what most people around here do from what I see) or you can buy something like crusts... -

Tacos tonight. So my husband stops in the store on the way home to grab my taco seasoning. Reports they don't have it. I panic. We end up in two stores before I find a Simply Organic one and settle for it so we can just eat. Looks like I'll have to buy my taco seasoning on the internet now. There is literally only one store that sells only one kind of taco... -

Adalaide replied to Dylanm's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The actual "pan" that the pizza is cooked on is not something that could ever be cleaned thoroughly of gluten. The same ones are used for all pizzas and are not cleaned in between. The gluten free and gluten pizzas are prepped on the same surface. The toppings come from the same containers, the same cook will usually do everything, especially at peak times... -

Went and volunteered for the basket thing. Came home with pineapples today! One was ripe, one not so much. I'm having a huge bowl of pineapple, banana and mango to finish of my morning of prepping a week's worth of produce. Then it is off to bed til dinner. -

Being a nondrinker, I suppose I must learn to sail and be our designated.... um... sailor? driver? something like that. At least I'll earn my keep. You can make burgers out of gators? OMG! We'll all have matching purses in no time! -

None that I know of, but I check anyway and recheck things once a year just to keep on top. I'd hate to start getting sick and not know why and it was from stupid random thing like that. I've said it before, but I am the most paranoid person I know. I'd still just feel better if he used what I use, it is chemical free. -
ARCHIVED What Cough Drops Are Gluten Free?

I use a whole bunch of kinds of Halls. Whatever makes me happy when I go to the store. Their website lists what is safe, very convenient. -
ARCHIVED Green Giant Sweet Potato Chips
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nah, my migraines are only from tyramine! Sweet potato fries aren't the same as chips. I mean, I could make them but I have never managed crispy ones. I just want potato chips made out of sweet potatoes, it sounds like such a brilliant idea. Mostly I was hoping someone had previously tried them. -

It is that she couldn't confirm if it was a manufacturing or sourcing thing that is nagging at me. Stupid hangups. I'm sure I'll eventually just eat a bag and see what happens. I mean, I eat Trix. They did tell me that everything from their company that they will say is gluten free is labeled gluten free. Exasperating. A year ago I was SO PARANOID about everything... -

This had me laughing. I recently cleaned and rearranged three sets of four shelves and had a near miss due to thinking I could move a shelf down a notch with stuff on it. I'm laughing with you, I swear! (You're laughing right?) -

ARCHIVED Green Giant Sweet Potato Chips
Adalaide posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So I have almost bought these chips a few times in the store but they aren't labeled gluten free so I never did. Every time I was in the store and saw them it was in the evening and far too late to call customer service. Finally today my husband texted me and asked if I could have them. Their website didn't say anything about them being gluten free but they... -

Drives me up a freakin wall, but I have had to make sure my husband's toothpaste is gluten free because he refuses to switch to my Earthpaste. But if your partner is brushing with a toothpaste or using a mouthwash with gluten in it, then all they are doing is brushing and swishing around the gluten with more gluten! -
ARCHIVED Just A Warning About Perdue Chicken
Adalaide replied to ruuning like a zombie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For those of us with celiac and NCGI our number one concern when buying food has to be gluten and possibly our other intolerances or allergies if we have them. Many of us are on fixed incomes or even food stamps and are far too poor to have things like principles. (This is a common joke in my house, it is meant to be funny.) Don't get me wrong, I grew up... -

Awww, you're poor noggin! Hope you feel better soon. Last time I did that I had been horsing around with my husband in bed, like good old fashioned horseplay like 8 year olds indulge in. Then WHAM! my head and the headboard had a meeting and I saw stars and blacked out for a second. Try explaining that to the ER staff and getting them to believe it wasn't... -
I didn't even know I had had a biopsy done. Then I got a call at the end of a business day on a Friday to tell me the results of my biopsy. I was like wha.....???? "You have celiac, when do you want to come in to schedule more follow up testing?" Oh, you biopsy me and don't even tell me I had a biopsy then call me and tell me I have this life altering disease...

I used to have a thing about heights. Then for a summer I lived with my dad on the farm as an adult and I had a choice between packing my few belongings and leaving and being homeless.... or painting the tin roofs. I painted. Every. Tin. Roof. On that farm. There were 4 in total. (I think, maybe it was 5.) That fixed my wagon right up. Besides, if we really...

So last fall I was just too tired and exhausted to drag myself off to the gluten free expo up in Salt Lake. This year, I just meandered onto the site and found out that Jennifer Espisoto is going to be speaking this year. I told my husband that I'll be there no matter what. I'm already so excited and it isn't until October! Anyone looking for fun October...

I cooked up the whole pack of bacon when I made salads the other night (I just do it in the oven) so I Have a bunch just laying around for breakfast. So I had bacon and eggs and guilt free toast. Usually I stand around staring at the freezer debating the toast thing for 5 or 10 minutes before deciding that the entire financial fate of my family rests on me... -

ARCHIVED Just A Warning About Perdue Chicken
Adalaide replied to ruuning like a zombie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Perdue fresh chicken is all gluten free, it says so right on their website. Their chicken isn't the cheapest chicken at Costco so I've never even looked at a bag but putting barley in frozen chicken would be a complete waste of money when plain salt water is so much cheaper. If you could provide more info that would be super helpful, like if this information... -

It is possible that they weren't wet enough. But the only ingredients really are the oil, water, salt and flour. Their flavor is much like an English muffin when they come out right, or at least that is what they remind me of. The gluten free girl website explains that it can take several tries before you get them right, and it isn't a big deal. Try again... -
