  1. Thanks everybody. I may try them this weekend. And I'll just remember to cross off the sea bass.
  2. Taffy - I can't promise you you don't have something else, with or without celiac, like female pattern baldness or alopecia areata. Open Original Shared Link But if it is celiac, then yes it will grow back. Once on the gluten-free diet it'll take time for your intestine to heal and start absorbing the normal amount of nutrients again. The small intestine...
  3. Anything with a strong mint flavor will burn my lips. The worst for me are those new super strong mouthwash/toothpaste flavors, yikes! "ChapStick (Wyeth Consumer Healthcare Products) (888-797-5638) (ve= 01/18/05) ChapStick All Natural ChapStick Cold Sore Therapy ChapStick Flava Craze SPF 15 Tropical Twist ChapStick Lip Balm Cherry ChapStick...
  4. Thanks!
  5. You could try the "lo-fi version". (Find it down the bottom/middle of the page, just above the GFMall ad.)
  6. I dL their gluten-free menu tonight and noticed the lack of prices, scary. So, just how swanky is this place? Will it break the bank? I would like to try them, for lunch maybe, anyone know how much that Florida Cobb salad goes for? (keep in mind my bank is very small - you know those little plastic houses in Monopoly? That's my bank. )
  7. Welcome back Jerry !! The prodigal son returns! Where's a gluten-free fatted calf when you need one? And I shall bean you with Midel gluten-free faux oreos! (the kind that won't make you sick)
  8. Yup. <--- looking up at my receded hairline. It's the malabsorption. The damaged small intestine can't absorb vitamins and the following vitamin deficiencies cause all sorts of havoc. My hair is in the process of growing back (after 1+ yr gluten-free), now instead of balding I look like I had a really bad perm. (we need a "bad hair day" smiley...
  9. DQ - Where are you? It depends on your area, you might find Farley's (Or Sather's, same company) in CVS, dollar stores, K-mart, Sears Essentials. . . you're right though they can be hard to find, Brach's seems to push all the other brands out.
  10. Very high cc risk, sorry. CB did put out a list of gluten free menu suggestions awhile back but quickly retracted it. (Always a bad sign) That said, I have eaten there before. I had the egg, bacon and tomato plate from their "low carb" section. I didn't notice a reaction but that doesn't mean I didn't have one, it may only mean I didn't have symptoms...
  11. I think the idea was to stop marketers from putting a gluten-free label on everything - even those foods which never contained gluten, apples etc. - but "ideas" and "laws" have never played well together. The codex(s) only apply outside the US. So it depends on where you live.
  12. The article is a few months old - from July. Open Original Shared Link Says the gluten-free market will reach 1.7 billion by 2010. Does this mean we'll all be rich?
  13. BOO! Candy corn/Autumn Mix/Harvest Mix: Target brand, Farley's, Sather's, Jelly Belly's.
  14. Grrr Arrogant rheumys. I hope you made copies of that biopsy report and wallpapered his office with it. What do you call two rheumatologists looking at an EKG? A double blind study. Hee hee.
  15. Yellow/Green. Open Original Shared Link
  16. Sometimes those Google ads don't make any sense at all. When I called up this page the top ad's title was "CELIAC DISEASE RELIEF!". . . it was an ad for low acid coffee.
  17. Yes, I think so! They're listed gluten-free as of '04 on my Wheaton Group list. (If it's a new flavor you might wanna double check that though.)
  18. I've been gluten-free for a little over a year and I haven't found any product (package or mix) that tastes like bread. It drives me nuts that packaged bread slices are the size of playing cards. I agree the darker the bread the better - they have more flavor. I did just try Whole Foods cream biscuits and wow! Very good, flaky, buttery, the finish is...
  19. Swanson's Organic Beef is gluten-free - and is labeled so on the front. (Box) Swanson's Natural Goodness Chicken is gluten-free, not labeled. (Box, not the organic brand - it's sorta like Swanson's "organic-lite" brand. ) These are the only two I checked - they're also the only two that I know of that are both gluten-free and MSG free.
  20. I tested negative on the blood panel twice and a "mild" positive on biopsy. My mother having celiac and my own history of autoimmune disease (rheumatoid arthritis) made the diagnosis. I've wondered if the meds I take for RA, which are immunosuppressant, may have affected the outcome of the blood tests. Enterolab's methods, patented by Dr. Kenneth Fine...
  21. Interesting. From Italy, of course. The land of everything yummy. I loved sourdough, I jumped for joy when Whole Foods announced their gluten-free sourdough. (Still haven't seen it locally.)
  22. Oooo. . . cheechas! They sound delicious. I haven't seen them yet here in south Florida. I'll keep an eye out, thanks.
  23. Get a big bowl full of gluten-free/df candy, treats, little toys etc. Show it to him; tell him when he gets home from trick or treating, he'll get to trade "bad" candies for good candy.
  24. I love buckwheat. After finding most gluten-free breads tasteless and generally icky I decided to look for a buckwheat black bread. I found this Open Original Shared Link (NOT a gluten-free site, just vegetarian/low fat, recipes need to be modified) in the search, it has a recipe for Ukrainian black bread. I still haven't tried it yet. I suppose rice or sorghum...
  25. A new Publix grocery store opened up near me. In a hurry one day, I ran in and down the first aisle and asked this tall stockboy, "Where's your gluten free stuff?" - his response was total deer-in-headlights , I was about to laugh and say nevermind when he tentatively offered, "Can I reach something for you?". I thought that was very sweet. He hadn't the...
