Your B-12 is low, and the TSH range your doc is using is way out of date. The normal is .3-3. I urge you to get your thyroid peroxidase antibodies checked. See my above post.
 -
In addition to the other thyroid test listed, make sure you get your thyroid peroxidase antibodies checked. They should be under 20. If high this means you have hashimotos hypothyroidism and autoimmune version of the disease where your body attacks your thyroid. I have this. My THS was normal but the peroxidase antibodies were 799. TSH is useless and...

ARCHIVED Questioning Gluten Intolerance
loraleena replied to Echo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had heard that abnormal is abnormal. That someone with a low above normal reading could be very sick and someone with a high reading might not have symptoms. My entero was 18 and I was very sick. Not that high compared to a lot of others on here. -

ARCHIVED 9 Mo. Old Daughter--desperate For Help
loraleena replied to mom2stelly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am also biased since I am a lactation consultant. First off your doctor is wrong to say that your child is lactose intolerant. Your breastmilk is made up of mostly water and lactose. Lactose intolerance does not happen until later. What is really going on is that your child may be intolerant to another dairy protein, either casein or whey. Also, are... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free In Japan?
loraleena replied to Beloved's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
My boyfriend is from Japan and we plan to go thereto visit his family in the next year or so. So, since I have someone with me who can explain my issues in Japanese to the chefs, do you think this will make things easier? Can you do sushi there as long as the fish is not marinated? My boyfriend totally understands all the nuances of the gluten issue and... -

ARCHIVED Hair Still Falling Out!
loraleena replied to Babygirl6915's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Babygirl. What thyroid test did you have? The TSH is useless and that is what most doctors do. The range is .3-3. Many docs still use the old range that goes up to 5. Anything over 2 is a problem. Also you need to have the whole thyroid panel done especially the Thyroid peroxidase antibodies. This shows if your body is making antibodies towards your... -
For all who live near Amherst Mass. I just found a cafe call THe River Shark Cafe. They have gluten free pizza! It was ok ( I make better). But, being able to go out with my son and boyfriend for pizza was priceless! They also have gluten free pasta as well. For breakfast, you can get a breakfast pizza or gluten free waffles! Take 116 towards Hadley...

ARCHIVED Eating The Same Foods Everyday
loraleena replied to NoSugarShell's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am in that boat too. Along with no gluten, I am very restricted due to the Intersticial cysitis diet I must follow to keep my bladder from going crazy. Not much I can do about it right now! Glutenwrangler - I think what you said was interesting. It must be based on the theory that your mind and negative thought patterns can create illness. Don't be... -
Jimbo. If you are gluten intolerant than your candida cure could be possible. But, if you have confirmed celiac than you are not cured, but probably silently hurting yourself. You can do damage without symptoms.

ARCHIVED Wow, I Am So Glad That I Found This Site
loraleena replied to Carl's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You could get a stool test through Enterolabs. Accurate even if off gluten for a year. Just the fact that he is doing so much better though is all you need to know. -

ARCHIVED Nature's Path Oatmeal?
loraleena replied to USMCgirl05's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oats are contaminated in the growing and storing process. It would not say contains wheat if this happened, because labeling does not show cross contamination. Do not eat oats unless they say certified gluten free. Bob' Red Mill now has one. -

ARCHIVED Her Celiac Disease "went Away" ?
loraleena replied to tiffjake's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I heard it is common for celiac to become quiet or dormant during the teen years. Even though a person may not have symptoms they are still damaging their body. Eventually she will pay the price. Please inform your friend of this! -

ARCHIVED I Mentioned This In Another Topic, But Please Help...
loraleena replied to Rpm999's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you gone gluten free? If not, any trauma to the body can make your symptoms start or escalate. You may also want to consider small bowel bacteria, candia overgrowth and parasites. I would try the gluten free diet and see. Have you been tested or tried to eliminate it before? Get a complete thyroid panel done as well. Check the other threads on thyroid... -

ARCHIVED Need Help Figuring Out Thyroid Results
loraleena replied to writerspice's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Georgie, Could you explain the FT3 to me. I get it tested every 6 months with everything else. Where should it be? I wonder if I have an issue converting and maybe that is why I still have hypo symptoms. I take 175mg of cytomel a day and am adding 12 mg every 2 weeks. My antibodies have come down from 765 to 199, but still high. -
Make sure you get the whole thyroid panel, not just the TSH (very innacurate). Make sure it includes the Thyroid Peroxidase antibody test. This should be under 20. If not you have Hashimotos Hypothyroidism. This is autoimmune and common in celiacs. Check out the website for my thryoid docs. Dr.lowe.com. Great and eye opening info. Good luck.

ARCHIVED Help Me Help My Child!
loraleena replied to Melmelsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am so sorry you both are going through this. One thing stood out to me. You said that she is lactose free. You should remove all forms of dairy so that she is not getting casein (another milk protien that some can't tolerate). It can still be present in lactose soy products so read labels carefully. I would avoid soy as well. Also, I would get her... -
Melatonin is my lifesaver. I take 3mg every night now for almost 3 years. Knocks me out! If I wake up in the middle of the night to pee I sometimes take a little more. It does not cause you to wake up groggy.
 -
Try 1-3 mg of melatonin. I take this 30 min. before bed and it knocks me out. Try and stay away from those prescription meds - lots of bad side effects. You can also take Valarien with the melatonin. I found the Natrol brand of melatonin works great!! Melatonin is a natural hormone our bodies produce for sleep and some of us are lacking in it!
