ARCHIVED Pf Changs...singapore Street Noodles A Must Have!
loraleena replied to wolfie's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The Boston location now has a dedicated section of the kitchen for gluten free items so as to avoid contamination. -
I believe since Celiac messes with your gut it makes it easier for the candida to flourish there.

ARCHIVED Just Had A Newborn Baby
loraleena replied to Annaem's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Congratulations! Glad you are breastfeeding. Is there a reason you are doing formula as well? If possible I would only breastfeed. Adding formula before3-6 months will negate most of the benefits of nursing. The formula will raise his risk for food intolerances. I am a lactation counselor and this is the latest info I have learned. I can give you suggestions... -
I can eat brown rice, but white rice bothers me. I think because it is so starchy.

First off synthroid is often not helpful. It is much better to take Armour thyroid or Cytomel. I am on Cytomel. Still trying to get it under control. Your doc is clueless. TSH is extremely innacurate. Just because you levels have returned to normal does not mean you should go off meds. Meds are usely for life. You probably went off and your levels...

Have you had your thyroid checked? This is a common symptom of hypothyroidism. Make sure your doc does a whole panel including thyroid peroxidase antibodies.

I am a certified lactation counselor. This is something I did not learn in my training. Please consult with a certified lactation consultant at your local hospital for advice on this. They have more training than me. Good luck. -
ARCHIVED Doc's Advice?
loraleena replied to mama2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would definitely consult with a lactation consultant in a hospital. A lot of docs no little to nothing about breastfeeding. Keep doing what you are doing, but get advice from a real expert. When did the doc say you could start breastfeeding all the time again? You should pump and dump your milk in between nursings so that your milk supply won't decrease... -
The foods you are eating should not be feeding candida. What do you mean by the Tilapia smeared around the candida. The supplements you are taking are probably killing off the candida and you may be feeling crappy from the die off of the candida. You may want to take less supplements and work your way up. What reactions are you getting?

The high antibody test points to Hashimotos Hypothyroidism. I have your symptoms, but am hypo. I am intolerant to heat and cold. I don't have shakes, but I get skipped heart beats.

Before I was gluten free I had an elevated ANA. This is just an indicator that something autoimmune is happening. Lupus is possible, but so is arthritis and many other conditions including celiac. There is a second test they need to do to prove Lupus. I had this and it was negative. At the time I had Fibromyalgia symptoms. Can't remember the test, but...

ARCHIVED Is It Easy To Get Someone That Actually Understands Us?
loraleena replied to shimo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can find someone who cares even if they are not celiac. I got really sick 3 months into my relationship with my boyfriend. Eventually I found out that I was gluten intolerant. He has been wonderful. He is so careful, and won't let me kiss him until he brushes his teeth. He notices things I need to watch out for even before I do. It is not all a... -
I never had issues with mango either, but several months ago a friend gave me some mango. My mouth got very itchy and I felt terrible (similiar to gluten). I have also developed intolerance to avocado in the past 2 yrs. as well.

ARCHIVED Doc's Advice?
loraleena replied to mama2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am a lactation counselor, but unfortunealty the book we have on meds and nursing is 3 yrs. old, so I don't feel comfortable giving the advice in there. Calling a local lactation consultant is a good idea. If you can't nurse while on this med, you could at least pump and dump your milk until the med is out of your body. You may have to do the formula for... -
ARCHIVED An Update On Me.....
loraleena replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Can you take something natural for your adrenals? I use a product called Isocort. -
That really stinks. What I do at parties where food is grilled, is I wrap whatever I am eating in foil and seal it completely. This keeps any spatter from marinades, etc. from touching my food. I also bring my own snack food as well, or make a dish to contribute.

ARCHIVED Safe Ingredients In Shampoo, Toothpaste, Etc...
loraleena replied to ab123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A lot of natural products will say Triticum Valgure (the scientific name I guess). Also look for oats and barley as well. I would suggest using Shakai or Giovanni. Natural and gluten free. -
What about getting a single burner hot plate so you could cook things. Also Amy's makes a lot of gluten free microwabable entrees. I would go in and demand help with this from the school or else they should have to give your money back. Could you give them written info on your diet and what you can't have?? Good luck. College is tough. I remember how...

Oh my god. Went to Woodman's on Labor day! Wow, great clams and french fries and not greasy or heavy. The portions are huge!! My friend commented on how light and awake he felt. He said he usually feels tired and crappy after fried foods or lots of bread. I said maybe you are gluten intolerant to! -

loraleena replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
PF Changs and Legal Seafoods in the Theatre district are good. PF Changs is great chinese, has a gluten free menu and a dedicated gluten free section in their kitchen. Very affordable and nice atmosphere. Make a reservation though because it is always busy. They even have gluten free desert, just ask.
