Wow someone else with ITP. I was diagnosed last summer with ITP. Platelets went to 84,000, but back up to 121,000. Get tested every 6 months. I also have Interstisial cystitis, Hashimotos hypothyroidism, fibromyalgia and Chronic fatigue that is much better gluten free. Things come and go in cycles. I have been dealing with a IC flare for a few months...

ARCHIVED Milk From The Amish
loraleena replied to confused's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Raw milk, cheeses and butter are the way to go if you are lactose intolerant. The pasterization process destroys the naturally occuring enzymes in milk that make it easy to digest. Many people who are lactose intolerant can tolerate raw dairy (such as myself). It is also much better for you. Paterization and homogenization destroy any benefits of milk... -
ARCHIVED The Other Side Cafe-boston, Ma
loraleena replied to sallyterpsichore's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Check out JP Seafood in Jamaica Plain (part of Boston). The waitstaff and cooks understand gluten free. There are a few safe things on the menu such as grilled salmon (get it pan-seared -yum). There is a pasta made of sweet potato that is safe. They will make their Sushi with brown rice and no vinegar. Yum. Bring your own soy sauce though. It is all... -

Get your platelets checked. Under 150,000 is low. I have the same problem and found out I have Idiopathic Thrombocytic Purpura. An autoimmune illness that causes the spleen to attack the platelets. My levels have only dropped to 84,000 but are back up to 121,000. It can be dangerous if the levels go below 30,000. -
Mrs. Crutch. I am a lactation counselor. Can I ask why you thought you were not making enough milk to satisfy you child?? New moms need to be nursing every 30-90 minutes. So, if your child is nursing that often you may have felt he/she wasn't getting enough. This is a common misperception. Breastmilk is mainly made up of water - 87% in fact. The rest...

ARCHIVED Anyone Out There Have "bladder Spasms"?
loraleena replied to Anonymousgurl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would try natural stuff first if you can. I also use prelief before everything I eat. Regarding the B-vitamins. For some reason they trigger bladder symptoms in IC patients. Not sure what to do about this because I really need to take them also. A lot of people take the cysta q with the Dessert Essence aloe vera. Good luck. -

Try Bread from Anna mixes. You make it yourself, but you don't need to heat it. Usually just toast or microwave for a few seconds. Food For life makes a great brown rice wrap that you warm in the toaster and then can make wraps and burritos. -
ARCHIVED Organic gluten-free Black Hair Dye
loraleena replied to sedunk's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All the natural dyes at Whole Foods and every other natural store I have been to all have wheat. What is up with this. Only the Henna products don't. I think Garnier might be ok. It is not natural though. -

I think I just saw that place on Phantom Gourmet. They said that their clams were coated with corn flour. I said to my boyfriend, "Wow I wonder if it is gluten free?" Do they share the fryolator with the clam cakes?? Did you react?? How far is Essex from Boston? -

There is an IC diet. It includes acidic foods , but also a lot more. Check it out on line. I use a homeopathic remedy called Cantharsis at 30c. It helps a lot. I also use a natural remedy called Cysta Q. Both seem to be helping. I take the Cantharsis 6pellets four times a day. I take 2 Cysta Q a day. One with breakfast and one with dinner. I also... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease + Anorexia Nervosa?
loraleena replied to dizzynik242's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was anorexic in college and struggled with body image for years. I got much better when I met my ex-husband in 92 who thought I looked great with a little meat rather than so skinny. It was having my son that really made me wake up and let that BS go! Or so I thought. A couple years ago before my gluten intolerance discovery I got very sick. I was... -
I bloat more gluten free than before. It could be soy. A lot of people are intolerant. Soy gives me gas, bloating and the runs. I think candida overgrowth is the culpret in my case.

ARCHIVED Wonderful Bread
loraleena replied to stargazer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Breads from Anna mixes are amazing. Also Against the Grain bagels, baguettes and rolls are amazing. You can buy them in Northeast Whole Foods. I don't know about the rest of the country. They are made in Bratteboro VT and I think there is a website. -
ARCHIVED Sushi
loraleena replied to Joanne11's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Please stay away from eel. My boyfriend is from Japan and says that almost always restaurants get the eel frozen and premarinated in a sauce that has gluten. He said occasionally in Japan you may find fresh unmarinated eel at a restaurant but not here in the U.S. Not worth the risk! -

I too have intersticial cystitis which includes these symtoms. Google it to read more. It can come and go, but I have been flaring for a couple months now. Bloating happens a lot with this. I can be fine, then I flare up, am uncomfortable and have to pee a lot. The bloating is crazy. Way more than from when I eat. Sometimes I look 5 months pregnant... -

ARCHIVED Venting Slighty But I Do Still Wonder
loraleena replied to Kylie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would suggest a full thyroid panel including thyroid peroxidase antibodies. Hypothyroidism can cause a lot of body pain and fibromylagia. Also nightshade veggies can cause body pain as well. These include eggplant, potatoes, peppers and a few more I am forgetting (tomatoes to I think). -
Low body temps are indicitive of hypothyroidism. My temp is usually around 97.6. Before and after gluten free I have low grade fevers that come and go. For me a low grade fever starts at about 98.3, but will go up to 98.9. I get chills and hot skin and feel terrible when my temps are here.

B-12 is a good idea. Make sure you use a sublingual brand that disolves under the tongue. Otherwise it is not absorbed well. -
My cramps are worse gluten free. I wonder why?
