  1. You have only been gluten free for a month. It can take up to a couple years to be better. You need to give this diet more time before going more extreme. Sometimes you need to eliminate dairy though, since this is often a problem for celiacs. Stick with as much unprocessed whole foods as you can.
  2. where do you live? The cheapest place to find there products is Greenfields market in Greenfield Mass. The products are only 5.99 instead of 7 dollars or more at other places. I heard the bakery will sell the stuff just as expensive as the stores. If you come here go to the Brattleboro Food Co-op. Their sit in eatery has all food labeled gluten free or...
  3. Just wanted to let everyone know of a place in Jamaica Plain Mass. (Part of Boston). It is called JP Seafood. It is a Asain seafood place. They have several grilled items with rice and veggies. Ask them to cook in a pan. Also they have a noodle made from sweet potato that is gluten free. Just ask the waitress about this entree. I have eaten there...
  4. I can help with Boston. I regularly eat at Bugaboo Creek, Naked Fish, PF Changs china Bistro, Fire and Ice and Whole Foods market. There is a Bugaboo Creek in Watertown (Part of Boston). They have a gluten free menu. PF Changs is in the theatre district and has a great gluten free menu. Fire and Ice is in Harvard Square in Cambridge (Boston). Naked Fish...
  5. Endangered Species is made in a facility that also has wheat products. Dagoba is labeled gluten free and most of Green and Blacks are. Good organic quality chocolate!!
  6. The technical name for wheat is triticum valgure. I see that a lot in natural products.

  8. I work in Brattleboro, VT. where they are made. They are about to open a gluten free bakery dowtown. Whole Foods in Boston has there stuff. It is awesome!! But, they use dairy and eggs in the recipe so not good for some.
  9. The TSH range is .3-3. If this is not the range your doc has than he is out of date. Anything over 2 is suspect. You absolutely have to have you thyroid peroxidase antibodies done. These should be under 20. They will tell you if you have Hashimotos hypothryoidism (autoimmune and common in celiacs). I have this. All my tests were normal, except this...
  10. Did you get your thyroid peroxidase anibodies checked. This would show autoimmune hypothyroidism. Most docs do not do it. The TSH test is extremely innacurate. The antibody test should be under 20. If your TSH was over 2 that is an indicator. The range is .3-3 Make sure your doc as the most recent range.

  12. For me it was nausea for a good month or so. Others say fatigue. Hopefully others will answer. It will go away though.
  13. Please get your thyroid checked. This is a major symptom. Very common in celiacs. You need to get the full panel including the thyroid peroxidase antibody test which looks for autoimmue hypothyroidism (hashimotos). Read website mentioned above as well as dr.lowe.com.
  14. Ginger tea is helpful. Traditional medicinal tea is gluten free.
  15. They have the same restaurant in Cambridge Mass. (Harvard Square).
  16. I lived there years ago before diagnosis. But, there is a great natural food co-op called Onion River. Also in Montpelier which is a half hour drive south on the highway there is a huge natural foods store (can't remember the name), that also has a eating area. Lots of great restaurants in Burlington, but I was not gluten free then. It is a very hip and...

  18. Sometimes fibro is caused by celiac, but it can be caused by other things as well, such as candida overgrowth. Also, some people get fibro symptoms from nightshade veggies. These include eggplant, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers. I feel better not eating these and gluten. I still have flare ups from time to time though.
  19. If Synthroid is working thats fine, but we just wanted to warn you of the things us and others have dealt with with doctors not knowing much about it this issue. Hypothyroidism is a big deal and can make you very sick. I don't think anyone down played that. We just want you to be as educated as possible regarding this health issue. Knowledge is powerful...

  21. I would go see a hemotologis regarding the platelets.
  22. Georgie is right. The range is .3-3, it was never up to 9 only 5 in the past. Anything over 2 is suspect. I am on meds and my tsh is now very low (Looks hyper, but I am not). This is normal if on meds. The docs should be relying on how you feel when on meds. Also I would recomend taking Armour not synthroid. A lot of people do not get bettter on synthroid...

  24. If the biopsy was positive you have celiacs. These damn doctors don't know a thing!!
  25. You should not be relying on test results alone for thyroid. The tests are not accurate. You should be having your Thyroid peroxidase antibodies checked. They should be under 20. This alone shows hashimotos hypothyroidism (autoimmune). All my tests are normal, but my antibodies are still high and I still have some symptoms. So, I need to keep increasing...
