  1. my brain fog was on the milder side -- i did slowly drive through a red light once and realized it on the other side, but other than that i just mainly felt dumb. in conversations i couldn't remember what i had said when the other person finished responding, and i felt like i was on autopilot sometimes during the day. i guess memory problems were my main...
  2. my sister just called about m&m's a couple of weeks ago and they confirmed that only the crispy rice ones are not gluten-free. as far as hershey's, it was my understanding that they would clearly list allergens in the ingredient list. (?) maybe i'm remembering wrong. happy snacking! i think i'll go have a hershey bar, you made me hungry!
  3. a tad bit off-topic but for people that have trouble with coffee, i saw a coffeemaker in P.J.'s (new in Gainesville -- makes "New Orleans" coffee) that i think was called the Toddy. it brews using a cold water process, and the box said that makes the coffee 67% less acidic. i haven't tried it and don't know of anyone who has, but it sounded interesting. also...
  4. all their lotions i have wanted to buy lately have listed oat in them (Brown Sugar and Fig, for example). but i haven't run across a body spray that hasn't been okay yet. and the lotion i just use sparingly from time to time because my skin is not sensitive to it. i'm a fragrance addict.
  5. there is a new menu out as mentioned above and my Outback here in Gainesville doesn't have a paper copy yet so they have to print it off the Internet for me every time and there is lots of tiny print with modifications to make items gluten-free. a couple of months ago i thought my dad had ordered something gluten-free but missed the tiny print that said ...
  6. please keep us posted!! my sister (diagnosed with Celiac in September or so) is having these same exact symptoms, plus numbness in her feet. her idiot of a doctor scared us all to death when he told her he liked to start from the worst case scenario and work backwards; he told her it might be MS, so they did an MRI and found out she has a healthy brain. the...
  7. Lister, I've read some of your posts but i can't remember how long you've been on the diet. if it's a fairly recent thing, your system may just not be up to snuff yet. i remember in the couple of months following diagnosis, i just didn't feel well at times (gluten symptoms), and most times, if not all, there was no way at all that i had ingested gluten. i...
  8. thanks to everyone for their contributions! i'll take this on as my next project and let you know how it goes. oh, and how do you get Glutino bagels? i've never seen them in a store. are they frozen?
  9. my dr. wanted to do this, but my insurance wouldn't cover it, so i opted not to do it; it was too expensive. he wanted to use it to have a baseline reference of what my small intestine looked like -- it wasn't to be diagnostic. supposedly it's painfree and very precise.
  10. hi, guys! my mom called me a few weeks ago and said that Elisabeth Hasselbeck of The View had mentioned making a gluten-free cake. but she wasn't sure of the details. did anyone catch that episode or have any more information? perhaps it's already been covered here but i read back a few pages and didn't see anything specific on her. thanks! Laurel.
  11. if i were ever to cheat, i think bagels would take me down, because i miss them so much!! i thought about trying to tackle making them before the diagnosis, because the baker's dozen i bought at Panera every other week were breaking the bank! but i never tried, because the recipes i found looked intimidating. i can only imagine how intimidating making a...
  12. i debated long and hard about this very issue in the fall and finally decided to stick with lotions i know are ok on a daily basis but still keep and use occasionally ones the ones like you are talking about, where the company won't say but you know from the list that there probably isn't gluten in it. that said, i don't react to having gluten on my skin...
  13. that's great! i'm so happy for you to get good results!
  14. hello! i'm so sorry that happened to you, Janie! i do think that being different is often the hardest part about this whole deal. i, too, have burst into tears over insensitive people/situations before. and no matter how much you snack, snacks don't make a meal! i get so tired of getting stuck in situations where i can't eat "real" food and i just have...
  15. hooray for Outback!! and Happy Anniversary!! i'll be thinking about you and your family.
  16. CMCM, i totally feel you on the products.. the only moisturizer i've ever fallen in love with (Estee Lauder) has a couple of kinds of wheat in it. so i got rid of it. right now i'm using Neutrogena and Oil of Olay alternately but i don't like the feel of either of them. i may check into Bare Escentuals and see if i like their stuff. i don't worry about...
  17. bless your heart! i'm so sorry you had to go through that experience. one of the unfortunate side effects of celiac -- dealing with people's ignorance... she could have at least apologized for embarrassing you! i hope things get better. i'll be thinking about you! Laurel.
  18. hmm, thanks for the tip! i definitely chew a lot of gum.. and i'm sure i get it in other places too. i'll check into that...
  19. i thought the same thing! i hate to know that anyone else is nauseated, but it makes me feel less alone! i'm still struggling... sometimes it's worse than others but it is really complicating my eating schedule now that classes have started back... i can't eat much at the time, because i get nauseated and don't want to finish and then not long afterwards...
  20. i had giant mood swings coming off of gluten (i'd get really unreasonably angry or sad and tearful for a few hours, out of nowhere). it slowly got better until a couple of months into the diet when i started to feel more stable. now i'm back to being me. i'd never had any problems with depression or anything before, but all last semester i was kind of a...
  21. thanks, Jen! i had stopped keeping my food journal back in Oct when most of my problems stopped... but i actually pulled it out this morning. hopefully i'll get this figured out soon. glad you were able to get to the bottom of it.

    ARCHIVED Nausea

hi, guys! ok, now that i've heard from you on the running into stuff the next thing i'm a tad concerned about is nausea. i'm completely gluten-free, in fact, i'd practically stake my life on the fact that no gluten is getting in. i've checked all cosmetics and i've only been eating stuff i know is ok. i don't smoke, and the nausea happens both when i'm...
  24. i miss beer so much!!! this is great. anybody live in FL and have luck getting gluten-free beer? any chains or places that ship?
  25. poor thing! it must be very frustrating to have to work with all that gluten! i used to be a waitress a few years ago and now i can't imagine how crazy i'd be handling all the bread and whatnot at Cracker Barrel. just know that if you do decide to chef it up and do the restaurant thing, we'll all come see you..
