ARCHIVED I Just Want To Make Sure I'm Not Crazy
1desperateladysaved replied to BlackStar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
" I'm actually finding myself a bit scared that this isn't the answer. I know hoping for celiac seems a bit weird, but a change of diet in exchange for being a functional human being sounds like a really good deal. How could it possibly be that simple? I'm so afraid I'm wrong, and I'll have to go back to just trying to be not depressed (anti-depressants make... -
GottaSki: "Insufficient IgA - this is the reason for the Total Serum IgA blood test. If a person doesn't have sufficient IgA, they can't make the antibodies that are tested for in the tTG IgA and other IgA tests of the celiac blood panel." Would this be an autoimmune problem? Would it be damage to the small intestine? I think I heard that antibodies...

I Would Like To Know....
1desperateladysaved commented on Autoimmune-what-14's blog entry in Autoimmune_what?!14's Blog
I agree that gluten free isn't everything and that one should use caution about dyes when they eat. It might seem like gluten is everything on the forum, but the focus is celiac, so that would be natural. You might want to reask your question on the forum in diet section. I am on a natural-mostly organic scratch cooking diet and have been for years... -
ARCHIVED Hunger Pains
1desperateladysaved replied to Persei V.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Fruit juice is very high in natural sugar. It has as much sugar as soda. It might make you spike and then crash needing nourishment. I agree also that high protein and good fats would be helpful. Without coconut, olive oil, or butter, I am hungry again shortly thereafter. Diana -

Yeah, for sure. So I wanna make sure now that I am on the right road and in the right car. Well, I fairly reasonably sure of that. -

"If it helps, make a chart of ALL your symptoms for yourself, stick it on the fridge and check them off one by one as they resolve." Irish Heart This is the sort of thing I wanted. That is a plan. I am not really a figure minded person though it may have come off like that. But I am afraid to get 2 years down the road and still not be able to objectively... -

1desperateladysaved replied to Perspective's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED Unexplained Bruising
1desperateladysaved replied to jlaw's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have had small bruises that don't seem to have a cause. As I understand these now, they may be a result of a deficiency in vitamin K. I hope you will be absorbing better as you go. -

Yeah, it is good to know there will be imrovement. It would be nice to have something objective though. Maybe if I heard what someone else keeps track of I might find something. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Measure Progress?
1desperateladysaved posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am having trouble measuring change as my body recovers. I tried measuring my belly around the belly button. However, it never seemed to change at the belly button, but all around it. I couldn't figure a way to measure in a consistent place but the belly button. Pain: I have been numb, so that is one reason I didn't get diagnosed, I guess. I bloated... -
ARCHIVED Can Not Lose! Just A Little Venting Among Friends...
1desperateladysaved replied to beachbirdie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have always concentrated on healthy eating and not weight. But I know that weight is one way of gaging progress on the battle. I have used it for that. Yeah, concentrating on what else is progressing could be a good thing. Prayers for you BeachBirdie! -
ARCHIVED What More Can I Do About My Mother.
1desperateladysaved replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My dad is a gem. My siblings are all involved. I just found out that the weakness was probably a side effect of a drug she went on two months back. I will be sure to leave a note for the doctor if I have further questions. Thanks, Diana -
ARCHIVED What More Can I Do About My Mother.
1desperateladysaved replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I live an hour and a half away and we are now short of cars in the family. I have given the doctor my name and phone number when I told his that I have celiac. Did your Mom ever pull out of it? Mine has been so well and she is only 71. Dad is 81. II don't think the doctor is allowed to discuss her healthcare with me. Mom and I have vastly different... -
ARCHIVED What More Can I Do About My Mother.
1desperateladysaved posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It would be hard to describe the whole situation. I was diagnosed celiac last May by a genetic test. The same test was so positive that it was known both of my parents have the genes for it. I told them and all my extended family of my diagnosis. I also wrote to Mom's doctor to ask him to consider this diagnosis in my mother's care. Dad said that Mom... -

1desperateladysaved replied to Bell232's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hope you will find substitues and follow it and that it will help. I have had many good foods eliminated from my diet. But for every one I seem to find one or two subs and have actually increased the variety of my food. Some of these subs are: almond flour garbanzo/fava flour coconut milk almond milk kelp noodles buckwheat flour I can make... -

ARCHIVED Spoiled Food Reaction?
1desperateladysaved replied to GottaSki's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I noticed bloating as a result of eating sprouts with mold in them. I think I am allergic to mold. I didn't consume mold on purpose, but did not notice it at the time. Nobody else in the family reacted to it. -
ARCHIVED New Here -- Question About Symptoms
1desperateladysaved replied to KikiB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

Great we learned some lessons since then! Diana -
I didn't know about gluten. I knew that wheat was probably a problem for me. I took heed when a mother said her children couldn't handle wheat, but they could eat older forms of wheat. They were a tasty and nice texture replacement for wheat. I sure wish I could remember who that mother is. Maybe I could put her on guard for those children. At any rate...

ARCHIVED How Do You Decide?
1desperateladysaved replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just remembered that when I used to bake delicious homemade wheat bread that I would bloat. My belly looked really big, but it caused no pain. It is just cosmetic, though. -
