ARCHIVED You're Know You're A Celiac If...
jkmunchkin replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ROFLMAO!!! .... You get on line at the sandwich station at work and inform the guy behind the counter, "don't worry we're gonna work through this together." as he looks amazingly puzzled as you instruct him step by step (from putting down a paper and changing gloves) how to make a lettuce wrap. ..... Your friend invites you over for your birthday... -
ARCHIVED Craving Bagels!
jkmunchkin replied to kaciemarie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you live in NY (metro area)? There is a bakery in East Meadow, Long Island that carries bagels made by a woman named Joan. They are incredible. They are frozen and you have to bake them off to as of now I know she doesn't have a way to ship them, but if you live anywhere remotely in the area it's worth the trip. I live about an hour and a half away and... -
ARCHIVED Best Gluten-free Baking Book?
jkmunchkin replied to AliceW's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I second the recipes (including breads) in Gluten Free Baking Classics by Annalise Roberts. Every recipe I have tried is incredible and everyone that tries them can't believe they're gluten free. -

Whole Foods actually has a banana bread that is pretty good. It's part of their Gluten Free Bakehouse line. -
ARCHIVED Bell And Evans Chicken
jkmunchkin replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
SHUT UP!!!!! OMG this just made my day!! Are they marked as gluten-free (in the black box) or you can just tell from the ingredients? Was this at the regular supermarket or Whole Foods? -
ARCHIVED Speaking Of Knishes.... Another Restaurant With A gluten-free Menu
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks Erica!!! We've been getting a great response from people. Funny you should mention the hibachi place. I just went there again Saturday night. We go to Noda's in White Plains. I bring my San-J wheat free soy sauce with me, and the first time I brought my Triumph Dining card. I don't often use them (actually that was the 1st time I tried it... -

ARCHIVED Chicken Nuggets
jkmunchkin replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I love the Bell & Evans gluten free chicken nuggets. I eat atleast a box of them every week. You should be able to find them at Whole Foods. When you first look at it, it's pricey but then I realized I get 2 meals out of 1 box so it really only works out to about $3 a meal. Definately not expensive when you look at it that way. -

Unfortunately I think you need to just suck it up and keep fixing the machine. There are certainly ways to inform him why he is getting the viruses, but you run the risk of embarrasing him and putting yourself on his bad list. I think this is one of those choose your battles situations and I think you are better of saying nothing and fixing his machine time... -
ARCHIVED Banana Chips
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know if banana chips are typically gluten free? Our cafeteria at work always has a bunch of candy, trail mix, banana chips, etc. by the register and I always consider getting them but don't know if they're safe. I could probably ask the brand and to see the ingredients but figured I'd see if anyone here eats them. -
ARCHIVED Manna From Anna

Their french baquettes are incredible!!! I'm pretty sure they do mail order / Fed Ex. I actually live in NY and have it messengered over because they are in Brooklyn, not Manhattan. If you are going to order I'd also suggest the pizza. It is amazing! Even DH who is picky NY'er about his pizza likes it. Oh and if you need proof how good the bread is. I... -
Oh I got that last time I went! I also normally wouldn't order chicken smothered with cheese and bacon, and to be honest had never even glanced at it on the menu. But after hearing everyone on here rave about it I decided to give it a try. YUMMY!!!!! So not something I would think I'd like but damn that is good! LOL!

I've used this recipe for spinach dip and it's great. I just substitute the flour for gluten-free flour. Open Original Shared Link -
I actually find for some reason raw carrots & brocoli bother my stomach. If they are cooked I'm fine, but if not my stomach gets really irritated.

ARCHIVED Manna From Anna

I've contemplated getting this a few times as I've heard it's really good. Do you need a bread machine for it though or can I just make it in the oven in a regular pan? -
ARCHIVED How Tall Are You All?
jkmunchkin replied to Kaycee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm 5'5" (actually 5'5" and 3/4). I look like I'm 5'8" though because I'm thin and have really long legs. And actually all the doctors predicted I would be 5'8", but I developed severe scoliosis in my teens and I think that took a few inches off. -
For the most part I avoid dressings in restaurants. Like Laura said, I pretty much assume everything has gluten in it and then find the ones that are safe. Outback's ranch dressing is great. It's actually probably one of the very few restaurants I will eat dressing in.

ARCHIVED The Good Soy Sauce....
jkmunchkin replied to clockworkjoce's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I don't think you'll find any Chinese or Japanese restaurant that has wheat free soy sauce, unless ofcourse they have a gluten free menu such as PF Changs. I use San-J, wheat free tamari. I have gone to my favorite Japanese restaurant and they are very good about using my sauce in a clean pan with clean utensils. -

ARCHIVED Lipton Onion Soup Mix?

I believe it is ok. But make sure not to get the Kosher one because I think that one has wheat. I'm not positive so double check the ingredients. -
ARCHIVED Book Suggestions For 9 Year Old Girls

When I was a kid I loved the Christopher Pike books, but that might be a bit old for her. One of my favorite books when I was that age was a book called The Root Cellar. Open Original Shared Link .com/Root-Cellar-Janet-Lu...TF8&s=books -
I'm sorry you're having such a crappy day. Do you live near a Whole Foods? If you do go get the Bell & Evans Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets. I'd be shocked if your kids don't like them.

Scott - I can't thank you enough for creating this board. This was the first board I visited when reseearching and being diagnosed with celiac. I always say that if not for this board, I would be eating dirt. The help and information I have received from this board is priceless. It is because of the board you created that I am enjoying a delicious dinner...
