  1. I posted in the wrong section. Thanks.
  2. I mentioned awhile back that my family was starting a gluten free menu in one of our restaurants... well we did, and it's all set! We don't have gluten free knishes (sorry), but we are a traditional Kosher restaurant (take out deli counter and sit down service). In the past 5 years, we have been voted by the readers of Westchester Magazine best pastrami...
  3. Don't know if this is possible. Anxious to see if anyone has a recipe.

    ARCHIVED Ragu?

I eat Ragu all the time. You're good. And like Tom, I try and use a mainstream brand wherever possible. I spend enough money on the specialty items like gluten free bagels, pasta, ect.
  5. LOL!!! That is pretty funny. Like Guhilia said, there is no going "a little" gluten free, but it sounds like she will go completely gluten free when she's ready. She is learning on her own that being gluten free is best for her body. After she gets sick from Popeyes a few more times she'll probably give it up for good. Sounds like your taking a great...
  6. I never got to go last week for Thai food. I took off from work part of last week and figured I would go try it for lunch but the place I want to try is only open for dinner. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I'll let you know how I do once I go there.
  7. I've had a great tomato with roasted peppers soup from Pacific Foods. I don't eat a ton of their stuff but I've never had any problems with the times I have.
  8. I'm a big advocate of continuing to eat out and enjoy this aspect of life, however given how recently you were diagnosed, you might want to give yourself a couple months to heal and really learn about the restrictions. I successfully eat out pretty often and I find the keys are: 1) always be very nice (very important) 2) don't be afraid to speak...
  9. Yeah I think I get that comment atleast once a week. One of these days I'm not going to be able to stop myself from responded, "oh yeah, it's and absolute joy having to wonder if I can chew a piece of gum and not being able to grab a quick sandwich when I'm doing errands and I'm starving. I love being afraid that everytime I eat something I may be violently...
  10. I've seen them at my Whole Foods but never tried them. See if your Whole Foods has the Bell & Evans gluten free chicken nuggets or tenders. They are incredible!!!
  11. I eat from our salad bar at the cafeteria at work pretty often. A lot of times I'll get grilled chicken from there and roasted zucchini or sweet potatoes, ect. But I won't get anything from there if any of the items are next to something that has gluten in them. So for instance if the grilled chicken happens to be next to pasta that day, I won't get it.
  12. I gotta be honest, even though I love PF Chang's they do make me a bit wary. I try to go there when they aren't as busy. I definately do favor restaurants that have gluten free menus. But if they don't have a gluten free menu I'm not afraid to be the neurotic, crazy girl (but very sweet and nice), who asks the same question 6 times and lets them know...
  13. I tend to mostly use MAC lipsticks. I also love Fresh - Sugar Lip Balm. Actually I love all of Fresh's skincare. The Sugar Face Polish is heaven; and the Umbrian Face Clay is awesome! I could keep going, LOL!! I love their stuff.
  14. Isn't it kinda common sense that yes while these places offer gluten free menus, you are still taking a risk. I mean when i go to PF Chang's I've never gone in there with the dilusion that they are scrubbing down the whole kitchen for me back there. I realize they are simply making my food with other ingredients, pots, utensils, ect. and hopefully taking...
  15. Actually if I get glutened I do get really sick. I just am very clear and upfront with my server during the entire meal to make sure everything is ok. I take a lot of precautions to make sure that I don't get sick when I eat out. I think if you approach it the right way the staff is more than happy to help you. Based on my blood tests it shows that I am...
  16. What post is this from? Funny, there must be something about kids who are forced by courts or parents to go to psychologists at a young age for a problem that THEY THINK exists, or want to exist- becoming perceptive at a very young and carrying that through in life. I'm the same way. I'm not going to go into my story but I can really relate to this.
  17. Hey do you have a Wild Oats near you? I copied and pasted this from their site what stores in MA carry their stuff. Wild Oats Market 40 Railroad Andover, MA 01810 Harvest Coop Markets 581 Massachusetts Ave Cambridge, MA 02139 617-661-1580 The Old Creamery 445 Berkshire Trail Cummington, MA 01026 413-634-5560 My Low-Carb Life 136...
  18. Yeah definately let them know that you are allergic and not just anorexic. I think it helps a) because they don't want to get you sick and because now they feel slightly guilty that they were thinking you were gonna puke your food up in the bathroom - but the reality is you have a disease. It's funny, I was never a huge pizza or fried food person before...
  19. I'm 28 (29 in a less than 2 weeks - sniff sniff). I graduated in '99. I've actually been to the Whole Foods in Manhassett a couple times when out by my in-laws and not that this helps you, but I find the one by me in White Plains is so much better. Have they gotten the Bell & Evans Gluten Free Chicken nuggets yet? I was in there a few weeks ago; had...
  20. I know I'm probably in the minority, but I eat out all the time. Eating out is part of life in NY, it's part of our culture. Granted there are certain restaurants I no longer will go to because I think the risk of getting sick is just to high; and on the other end of that spectrum there are now certain restaurants I frequent because of either a gluten free...
  21. Hmmmmmmm.... some of those sound really good too!!! I'm gonna be sure to take my Triumph Dining cards with me.
  22. I debated back and forth about going, and finally decided that since I do live in NY it would be silly not to go. I signed up during early registration so it wasn't that expensive. I figured even if I learn a few things, it will be worth it. And my cousin who is also celiac is going also, so we figured why not. Anyone else gonna be there?
  23. I live in Westchester and work in the city. I spend a lot of time on Long Island though. My in-laws live on Long Island (also Nassau County), and a lot of my friends live on Long Island. Oh and I went to Hofstra. Have you tried Mama's in Oakdale yet? It is so incredible. I drive from Westchester to go there! Congrats on your engagement! Where are you...
  24. Thanks guys!!! Awesome!! I was thinking I wanted to try Pad Thai. And I always thought peanut sauce sounded yummy!! Perfect; I'm gonna get Pad Thai with peanut sauce
  25. This may be a really dumb question, but is all Thai food typically spicy? And if not what dishes are typically not spicy? I never really had the desire to try Thai food before being diagnosed with celiac, but I know they do a lot of stuff with rice papers and rice noodles (ofcourse I know to question all the sauces), so I figured maybe I would give it...
