ARCHIVED Any Restaurants In The Bronx
jkmunchkin replied to m.cerezo's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I don't know about in Riverdale but I have eaten successfully at one of the restaurants on City Island. The waiter was completely confused and I was a bit nervous because he definately seemed to be having trouble with the concept of what I could and couldn't have but he was extremely nice and really willing to help. In the end I had a delicious meal and no... -

jkmunchkin replied to hineini's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't have one but I was thinking of e-mailing Annalise Roberts to see if she could possibly create one. -
ARCHIVED Going To Have Thai Food Tonight
jkmunchkin replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I believe Pad Thai is normally a safe choice. Ofcourse be careful of the sauces, etc., but I think generally this dish is safe and made with safe sauces. -
ARCHIVED Restaurants In Philly Or Long Island
jkmunchkin replied to justme's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
At Outback, PF Chang's, Mama's - pretty much any restaurant you go to that has a gluten-free menu, just ask when the hostess is seating you for a gluten free menu. And yup, Mr. Ritt's specializes in gluten-free baked goods. I actually have friends that moved from Dix Hills not to long ago. DH is from Long Island, a lot of my friends live out there... -
ARCHIVED Restaurants In Philly Or Long Island
jkmunchkin replied to justme's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Where in Long Island will you be? Withouth knowing specifically what town or area, the one suggestion I can make is to go to Mama's in Oakdale. Even if you're all the way at the other end of Long Island you have to go there. It is and Italian restaurant with an enormous gluten free menu and so amazing!!! I drive an hour and a half from Westchester to go... -
OMG, I had an incredible strawberry shortcake at Risotteria a few weeks ago. It was just short of me licking the plate Stef - How's everything going? Are you in Westchester now?

jkmunchkin replied to chawk310's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never seen those, but the S'Better Farms ones are pretty good if you can find those. -
I'm sorry your mom is reacting like this. You neeed to explain to her that once your body is off gluten, even for a time period of 3 months, once you have gluten again your bodies reaction to it is much worse. It was something your body could never tolerate and now your body is rebuilding itself and not used to having these poisons anymore. That is why...

ARCHIVED Birthday Cake
jkmunchkin replied to lapetit8's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How much do you want to spend? For my brother's birthday this past year my family put me in charge of the cake since both him and I are the only ones with celiac. So I figured no problem, I'll call Babycakes and have it delivered to my office. When I heard how much it was (just for the cake I hadn't even mentioned the delivery yet), I decided very quickly... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cheesecake
jkmunchkin replied to Sheryl in NJ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My favorite cheesecake was Junior's Cheesecake, so I found this recipe online and instead of doing the spongecake bottom I took gluten free ginger snap cookies (Midel), pecans - ground them up and then mixed it with some butter to hold it together and smooshed that on the bottom as a crust. I made this for my brothers birthday and everyone raved about... -
ARCHIVED Mascara Brands gluten-free?
jkmunchkin replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Lancome Defincils but I've never checked to see if it's gluten free. To be honest I'm not in the habit of eating my mascara, I obviously don't rub my eyes when I have it on otherwise it would smudge, so it's not like I'm touching it. If I do happen to get any on my hands when I'm putting it on I would wash my hands regardless, so I'm not really sure... -
ARCHIVED Your Opinion - Best Bread?
jkmunchkin replied to NoFlourPower's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Premade: The breads from the Gluten Free Bread Basket - hands down!! You don't even have to toast it to eat it. So far I have had their mock rye (my favorite), the country sandwich bread and an Italian Herb bread. They are all incredible!! I even used the Italian Herb one the other day with a hamburger. Amazing! Bake it Yourself: The submarine... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Eat When You Get Glutened?
jkmunchkin replied to Jen H's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think everyones recovery time I can vary a bit. I find within 24 hrs. the major pain and discomfort goes away, but the D and quesy feeling and brain fog can stick around for a few days. When I'm glutened I lean towards white rice, gluten free bagel with peanut butter (ironic that I still consider a "bread" product a comfort food), and bananas. Oh and... -
I so desperately wanted the whole Chinese food thing to work out, and was really hopeful after one good experience, but that was the one and only. Unless it's at PF Chang's or Ray's Cafe (a chinese restaurant in Rye, NY with a gluten free menu), I won't at any other eat Chinese restaurant. It seems no matter how much I stress clean wok, clean utensils, ect...

ARCHIVED Deep Fryer?
jkmunchkin replied to queenofhearts's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
A few months back I was desperately craving wings, and was determined to buy a fryer and make my own. I thought of all these wonderful things I could make with my fryer. So I set about finding which one I wanted, and bought my fryer. One batch of delicious wings later and I've yet to use it again. LOL!! Nonetheless, I'm still happy I bought the fryer. You... -

WHAT?!!!!!!! What will I do without my rainbow cookies?!!! I have to find out who makes them for them. -
I'm having a brain freeze moment. I want to make beef stroganoff for dinner one night this week and the recipe calls for beef broth but I can't remember which brands are safe. As I'm writing this I realized I'm pretty sure Pacific Foods is; any others?

ARCHIVED Good Sweet & Sour Sauce?
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So now that I have found my delicious gluten free Bell & Evans chicken nuggets I was hoping someone had a reccomendation of a yummy sweet & sour sauce to dip them in. I used to really like the McDonld's one - and wouldn't be against going in to ask for a few packets when I get milkshakes there but they add soy sauce so there's is no good for us. ... -

ARCHIVED Bell & Evans Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought the Bell & Evans Chicken Nuggets at Whole Foods a couple weeks ago and had been a little hesitant to try them because I was afraid I would be disappointed. I wasn't starving when I got home from work tonight so I figured I'd make them and if they sucked I could just chuck them and make something else. WOW.... If I knew how delicious these... -

jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry, been MIA for a few days. But the texture is great!!! I actually took a couple plain slices of the country sandwich bread with me to work this morning and ate them (GASP) PLAIN and UNTOASTED!!!! I truly can't believe how close this is to real bread. I'd be shocked if anyone said the didn't like it. Oh and haven't tried the rolls yet, but... -
