jkmunchkin replied to lpellegr's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had that a few weeks ago. I was so hungry when I ate it that I scarfed it down in like 3 seconds but it was pretty good. I would definately get it again. -

ARCHIVED I Just Had The Best Sandwich Ever!
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not sure about shipping cost, but I put everything in the freezer so hopefully it will freeze well. As for thawing, I just took out a couple slices and left them on a paper towel for about 10/15 minutes until it thawed and then made my sandwich. And yeah the Rye definately even smells like rye. I don't know how these women do it, but this bread... -
ARCHIVED I Just Had The Best Sandwich Ever!
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know I have mentioned this bread before, but I really think it's worth mentioning again. I just had a pastrami sandwich on mock rye bread and it was the most incredible sandwich ever!! I didn't even have to toast the bread. I got the bread at the Gluten Free Bread Basket in Chester, NY (I know they definately ship). You seriously won't be able to... -
ARCHIVED Wolfgang Puck Soups
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Amazon post reminded me I had seen the Wolfgang Puck Soups on Amazon and wanted to check out if any of them were safe for us. So I just went on the WP site site and sure enough under the FAQ section it says which are gluten free. I thought everyone would definately find this useful. This is definately one of those items you can order in bulk. From... -
ARCHIVED Restaurant Reccomendations In Cape Cod
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I am going to Cape Cod this weekend for my aunts wedding and my family has put me in charge of finding a restaurant that we can all eat at Saturday night (it's a Sunday wedding). I'm thinking a seafood place would be best because what's easier and safer than a boiled lobster and a baked potato Anyone have any good recommendations for someplace decent... -
Oh I totally forgot about this. Let me know if you don't get a response from her and I will e-mail her. (We work for the same parent company so getting an internal e-mail may help).

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Places In New Jersey
jkmunchkin replied to Lexis's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Foods By George which specializes in gluten free baked goods is in Mahwah. Open Original Shared Link I don't know Jersey that well but there is an Outback, Legal Seafoods and Chili's all in the Palisades Mall in Nyack. Outback and Legal Seafoods both have gluten-free menus and Chili's will let you know what is safe. Depending on where in Bergen County... -
ARCHIVED Good Gluten Free Bread?
jkmunchkin replied to porterpotti's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No I swear you don't have to toast it; I couldn't believe it!!!! I had been wanting to try it for awhile. They are located about 10 minutes from Woodbury Commons which is an awesome outlet center in NY so I figured I would go there the next time I went up there. But luckily they were at the Suffolk County Celiac Vendor Fair in West Babylon, NY last month... -
That is awesome!! I'm going to my aunts wedding next weekend and my parents talked to her last night and she actually told them she checked with the caterer which foods are safe for us - a good deal apparently and the caterer is even making 2, yes 2 gluten free desserts!!

ARCHIVED Good Gluten Free Bread?
jkmunchkin replied to porterpotti's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The homemade one I would reccomend is the submarine sandwich bread from Annalise Roberts book. Actually I'm sure any of her breads are great but that is the only one I have tried. It's incredible and you can use it for so many different things. Sanwiches, garlic bread, pizzas... it's awesome! As far as store bought, well you would have to order it but... -
I am so ecstatic. We have a cafeteria at work and ofcourse there is a place where you can leave comments. In our other cafeteria (there are a few buildings) in addition to having a help yourself salad bar, there is a station where they make the salad for you. There is also stir fry station, international table, the grill, sandwich station, dessert bar, in...

The chocolate thunder from down under is definately gluten free and definately amazing!!!! But like Lauren said, make sure the server writes GLUTEN FREE on the ticket. I actually was at an Outback recently (actually tried to go to Mama's and they were closed for construction so DH promptly found an Outback before I burst into tears. I'd been talking about...

I didn't see it, but that is very possible. She works at Gourmet Magazine which featured Annalise Roberts in their November issue. Maybe I'll send an e-mail to one of my friends there to find out, and if that was infact the case find out if they were from Annalise's recipe. I'll let you know.
-
LOL!!! If she ever needs a PR team I think she's found it!

Oh I'm so sorry, I should have posted about this. I actually drove out there on Thursday for my 1 yr. gluten free anniversary and they were closed for the repairs. I drove all the way from Westchester. I was very, very upset. Unfortunately I don't know any information.

There is one on Annalise Roberts website. Open Original Shared Link I haven't tried it yet but all her other recipes are incredible so I'm sure it's great.

jkmunchkin replied to GlutenWrangler's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually funny you should post this. I was just commenting to DH on Saturday that ever since I went gluten free I hardly ever get sick. Before I was pretty much always sick with something. -

ARCHIVED Interesting Article On The Potential Progress Of gluten-free Foods
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Publications & Publicity
This gives me hope that maybe one day I won't have to go to 3 supermarkets and that gluten free foods will eventually go down in price (even just a little). Open Original Shared Link -
Unfortunately there isn't one in the city. (there are Outbacks in the the city though if you want that chain). The easiest PF Chang's for you to get to would be White Plains. You would have to take the train to White Plains and then take a cab from the train station (there are usually always cabs just waiting there). PF Chang's is located in the Westchester...

Really?! What does using shortening instead of butter do? Does that make it fluffier? The recipe actually calls for you to chill the dough overnight so I was planning on doing that. I hope this recipe goes well. I'm also testing whether I'm one of the people that can tolerate un-contaminated oats with this one. The recipe I found is the recipe for...

Oh I already have the xanthum gum. I've used it in all the Annalise Roberts recipes. Thanks Leah (and everyone), yeah I figured like 1/4 tsp. would do. Hopefully I'll try and make them tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

I found a cookie recipe that I want to convert into a gluten free version (basically just gonna substitute the flour for Annalise Robert's flour mix). My question is does anyone know if I need to add xanthum gum? I tried making the Tollhouse Cookies from the recipe off the back of the bag once and although they tasted great they were completey deflated and...

ARCHIVED Can Anyone Help?
jkmunchkin replied to kaemon85's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This definately sounds like you could have celiac. Have your doctor do the blood tests for this. You don't want to start eating gluten free until after you've had the blood tests and endoscopy though because it will alter the results. You need to have wheat & gluten in your system in order for the test to be positive. I had all of the same symptoms...
