jkmunchkin replied to Pink-Bunny's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
For me the staples in my kitchen are: - Tinkyada - Bell & Evans gluten-free Chicken Nuggets - Minute Rice - Chunky Chicken & Brocoli Soup (I actually like this mixed with rice) - Tostitos & Salsa - Chocolate Chips - Tyson frozen chicken from Sam's Club -

Happy Cartwheels!! -
I couldn't agree more. I just tried the pumpkin and banana breads the other day and they are incredible!! You don't need a mixer for the speciality breads (such as the pumpkin and banana), but she does reccomend a mixer for the regular sandwich type of breads. So I'm asking for a bread machine for Chanukah. That's how good this is, worthy of buying...

ARCHIVED Anna Pumpkin & Banana Breads
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The breads were delicious!!! I was a little bummed at first that the only people willing eager to try it (other than my cousin and I ofcourse. My cousin is also celiac.) was my husband, my dad and my 8 year old cousin; but people slowly started to come around and try it, and everyone agreed it was great! You don't need a bread machine to make these,... -

ARCHIVED Grainless Baker
jkmunchkin replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I actually just tried there stuff for the first time the other day. I got the Butterfly cookies (kinda like a linzer tarte flavor) and the Graham Crackers. All I can say is, I'm in heaven!!!! I devoured the entire package of graham crackers and am well into the cookies. No problems to report. -
I've heard the seasoning spices are questionable there. Over the summer my inlaws wanted to go there and I got steamed lobster, and a baked potato. I figured it wasn't going to get any safer than a steamed lobster. No problems.

I promise you, you can do this! You just need to tell yourself this is something you have to do. Before I was diagnosed, I ate out or ordered takeout 6 - 7 days a week. If I did cook, it was most likely something like Lipton noodle sides or mac n' cheese. Granted eating gluten free can often take a little more effort and planning, but it gave me a new hobby...

ARCHIVED Can People Stop Saying, "oh So You're On The Atkins Diet."
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah I actually did kinda say that. That is how I came to tell her I could have any carbs that didn't have flour - such as pasta. -
Are you friggin' kidding me!!! If I typed what I really thought about this person I think it would get edited, LOL!! That was very sweet of your boss to make sure you were accomodated. I would maybe make a pasta salad with gluten-free pasta and bring that in...ha show her!!!!

ARCHIVED Can People Stop Saying, "oh So You're On The Atkins Diet."

This is a mini-rant. Usually peoples assanine comments don't really bother me to much but today I was chatting with the lady who waxes my eyebrows and we were talking about what we were doing for Thanksgiving. She was telling me everything she was making for all her guests and after each thing was asking if I liked that. (we are both Russian - although she... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Do If There Was A Cure?
jkmunchkin replied to cgilsing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was first diagnosed I wanted a pill more than anything (as I'm sure everyone of us did those first few weeks or months). But now, it isn't that important. I would still continue to eat gluten free at home, and even when I'm out; but I wouldn't mind a pill that I could take as a preventitive measure to getting glutened if I eat out. That way when I... -
ARCHIVED Perky O's A Bust...any Other Cheeios Like Rec?
jkmunchkin replied to kimber's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't tried them yet, but I heard the Glutino cereal that looks like cheerios is pretty close. I think they are called Cereal O's. -
Oh I went to Rosa Mexicano!! I actually went as part of my bachleorette party. I was pretty newly diagnosed at that time and so it was little tough (one of my bridesmaids was really pissing me off because she kept bothering me about where I wanted to go, and at that time I'd only been diagnosed for a couple months. I kept telling her I didn't want to eat...

ARCHIVED Tinkyada Pasta - Which Kind Is Best?
jkmunchkin replied to teebs in WV's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm another one that never noticed any of them were organic. I'm about to go check mine and see what I have. I buy mostly on shape. I like to mix the penne with the tri-color fusili a lot, but like others said I just get the different shapes based on what I'm having. I buy the elbows to make mac n' cheese, penne and tri-color fusili for everyday pasta and... -
ARCHIVED Cranberry Juice
jkmunchkin replied to jesscarmel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I drink the Ocean Spray Cran-Grape all the time. I'm like a 5 yr. old, I don't really like soda that much and mostly drink either apple juice (I like the Mott's Natural one) or the cran-grape. Oh also the Nantucket Nectars cranberry juice is really good. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Restaurants In Nyc?
jkmunchkin replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Risotteria has amazing gluten free pizza, breadsticks, etc. Lumi is one of my favorite restaurants with a gluten free menu. I recently went to Bistango for the 1st time which is also great. Since you mentioned the place on 40th & 8th; there is a place on 44th b/t 6th & Broadway called Osteria al Doge. They don't have a gluten free menu, nor... -
I made them once with the Frank's Red Sauce. To be honest I didn't really like th sauce. It was to vinegary for my taste. I've bought the Bell & Evans wings. Those are pretty good.
