ARCHIVED Worst Interview Question Ever
jkmunchkin replied to heathen's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I actually really like your answer. Sounds like an interesting dinner. My 3 would be: Marilyn Manson (i think he is an extremely interesting person and incredibly smart), Tim Gunn (silly I know, but I love Project Runway, and he cracks me up... yet he has so much knowledge about the industry I would love to talk to him) and Jesse James (he is an incredible... -
ARCHIVED Gingerbread Emergency For School
jkmunchkin replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't know much about gingerbread houses, but I don't think any of Duncan Hines frostings are gluten free anymore. I believe they added malt several months back. But I believe Pillsbury is still safe. I haven't bought frosting in awhile but last time I checked Pillsbury is ok. -
ARCHIVED My 1st gluten-free Dinner Party
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was actually just about to email you and see if you liked the bagels. I actually tried her english muffins (both the plain and cinnamon raisin) at a Westchester Celiac meeting that she was at, an if I didn't know they were gluten free I don't think there would be any way I would know. They were so incredible. You're going to love them. I definately am going... -
I just had my holiday party last night. Although there were a couple things that looked safe, I figured why risk it. I basically just ate a big lunch to tide me over, and then made it through the party thinking about the delicious leftovers I was going to have when I got home from the dinner party I hosted the night before. It sucks to not be able to eat...

ARCHIVED My 1st gluten-free Dinner Party
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
So I hosted my 1st gluten-free dinner party on Sunday night for my family. Ok truth be told this was my first dinner party period. Not to toot my own horn (lol), but it was awesome!!! For appetizers I had edamame (i know that doesn't count as cooking), shrimp cocktail (also doesn't count but hey everyone really liked both of these) and deviled eggs. ... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Restaurants On Long Island
jkmunchkin replied to de caps's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Great suggestion, but I think that may be really far for her (and her family) to travel. That is easily 2 hours from where she is in Nassau county. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Restaurants On Long Island
jkmunchkin replied to de caps's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Jillian, I know what restaurant you are talking about. I'm definitely going to look into it. Would you believe I'm considering going up to Westchester for my son's party. Have you tried Four Doors Down in Buchanan? -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Restaurants On Long Island
jkmunchkin replied to de caps's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hey Donna, They don't have a gluten free menu but Cafe Bacci (or Bacci Cafe, I forget which it is) on Old Country Rd in Westbury, is great for these type of events and they will be very accomodating for you. I went to a party for a Christening there several months ago, and they couldn't have been more helpful. I had a delicious rosemary chicken breast... -
ARCHIVED The Gift Baskets Are Starting
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
LOL!!! Thanks babe. OMG, I have a friend at work and her mom always sends her homemade cookies. But she'll send like tons and tons of cookies. So she puts them out for everyone to take. Ofcourse her and I sit next to each other, so guess where the cookies are! I've never heard people go on about cookies the way everyone does. This one guy... -
Thanks for sharing. I've seen these a couple times but hesitated to try them. I definately will now.

I have to say, I never really have any problems with remaining gluten free, and never feel deprived. But damn does it suck when all the gift baskets and treats start rolling into the office during the holiday season!! It's like everywhere you turn there is another tub of popcorn, chocolate covered pretzel, cheese & cracker spread, cookies, ect. Granted...

ARCHIVED What Are The Best And I Mean The Best gluten-free Flours
jkmunchkin replied to zachsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I like the recipes in Annalise Robert's, Gluten Free Baking Classics. She recommends using the Authentic Foods Superfine Rice Flour for the flour mixture, and I have to say I like it. No grainy texture whatesoever. -
ARCHIVED Have To Share This....
jkmunchkin replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Congrats!!!! I have to say, I fed my friends baby at her sisters wedding while she was running around taking pictures, and OMG, I couldn't believe how long it took. This kid has some appetite, but ofcourse you have to make everything in the smallest pieces. I think I spent 30 mins. feeding her. LOL!!! So big congrats!! (Ok, I know that's not why... -
As others have said, the Triumph Dining cards are really great, and can make your life a lot more simple. I didn't have them when I first started so I get pretty good at ordering without them, but I will use them in certain ethnic restaurants now and find them very helpful. I find one of the most important things when ordering is to be very polite and...

ARCHIVED Cake Icing
jkmunchkin replied to proger's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Pillsbury. Duncan Hines used to be ok, but I believe they added malt to it several months back. -
I went to Morton's a few months ago for my anniversary and our waiter was not only hysterically funny, but also very helpful and thorough in making sure all my food was ok. He checked on everything for me. He suggested that my steak be cooked without their seasoing because he couldn't guarantee it was ok. My husband wanted to order the hashbrowns but he...

ARCHIVED Tropicana Twisters
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone drink these? If I remember correctly, Tropicana only guarantees their products that are 100% juice as gluten free, but I was wondering if anyone drinks their Twister juices. They make incredible mimosas. -
Anne Lee at Columbia. They have a special center for celiac there, and she is a nutritionist that specializes in it.

We all know how you feel, and have definately been there. If I do accidentally get glutened I find myself feeling like it's week 1 again, and afraid to eat. You should always read labels before eating anything. For the 1st couple months this seems like the most annoying time consuming thing ever, but after awhile it becomes second nature. I now find myself...
