    ARCHIVED Another Uninformed Doctor

Find a new doctor, have her continue eating gluten until they run the full Celiac panel (AGA IgA, AGA IgG, total Serum IgA, EMA, ttG), and send this doctor some information about the NIH Campaign to increase awareness among doctors about Celiac, because he is a classic example of why this campaign is needed.
  2. Ursa and Deb: However, the zonulin pill IS to be taken before consuming gluten, not just for accidental glutenings. It actually doesn't cover up the symptoms. While I certainly agree that it is not a cure by any means----it actually works differently. For those who have "true" Celiac (I don't know how it would affect NCGI), the mechanism behind Celiac...
  3. Generally, the reason that recent Celiacs have problems with lactose is not necessarily because of leaky gut itself. If someone has temporary lactose intolerance and is a newly diagnosed Celiac, it is often because of the damage to the villi, caused by the Celiac reaction. It is on the tips of the villi where lactase is found (which helps break down the...
  4. Yes, it is true. Do searches for "Alba" "Zonulin" and things like that. I have posted about it a few times. Or google it....or look on celiac.com....lots of great info out there. (sorry, I'd write more or find the links for you, but I am not feeling well tonight) I have heard Dr. Patterson of Alba Therapeutics speak at a GIG group...........amazing...
  5. Peace, In response to the bloodwork being done while on the gluten free diet: Your results will either be (obviously ) Positive or Negative. however, and this is what many doctors fail to take note of: if it is negative, it doesn't mean that you necessarily don't have Celiac. The vast majority of us on this board NOW have negative Celiac panels...
  6. So I love house and that clip made me laugh speaking of lupus ...... Open Original Shared Link interesting.
  7. Char, Definitely not a wasted post! I'm sorry that you are having to go through this. Sometimes we have to tell ourselves to do the right thing, even if its not the easiest (not having a definitive answer)....and you are doing just that. I'm happy you are enjoying the book. There are some points that I don't agree with, but as a whole (about 98%), it...
  8. Welcome to the board! I second the advice of stopping ANY eating out. I ONLY get glutened when eating out....so it was something that I just had to stop. Not fun, but was the only way for it to stop. I would also recommend having his bloodwork (Celiac panel) run to see what his numbers are. This way, you have some idea of what is going on in his...
  9. Andrea, just wanted to offer you a voice of support. I'm sorry that you have to go through all of this. I will keep him and your family in my prayers. xoxo, Laura
  10. Intolerances are also considered "delayed" food allergies. So while traditional allergies are referred to as IgE, delayed food allergies/intolerances are related to IgG and IgA.
  11. You want tTG and EMA, and then other pluses include Total Serum IgA, Antigliadin IgA and IgG
  12. Jerry Good! After all you have gone through, I would hate for you to get inaccurate testing
  13. Eating gluten free, even for someone who does not have a gluten problem, is NOT unhealthy. As long as they eat a well rounded diet and are getting similar nutrients from other sources, most people will be fine. There is nothing that gluten has in itself that you cannot get from another product. However, some doctors think that the diet is restrictive...
  14. Please clarify what you are asking....I'm not quite sure how to answer it Soy in itself does not contain gluten, so soy is safe for Celiacs to consume. However, soy SAUCE can be made with gluten. So, if there is soy sauce in something, you will need to know the ingredients of that (which they should list on the label).
  15. Your main concern in terms of this would be the corn. Iodized salt can have corn in it (the salt doesn't say either way, so I don't know)
  16. Jerry, I thought you were on the gluten free diet at the moment? And you are having the Celiac bloodwork done? The two options are: positive: means you are definitely a Celiac negative: doesn't mean you are or aren't a Celiac, since gluten isn't being consumed at test time
  17. jess: i'm happy that it was cleared up! whew! yes, there is also corn gluten and rice gluten, but its not the bad gluten for celiacs
  18. invest in some permanent magic markers. For all YOUR condiments, label "gluten-free" or "Your name ONLY" This would include butter, mayo, cream cheese, peanut butter, sour cream.......things that are dippable. You will have your set, everyone else will have their set. if you are worried about getting sick from scratched up pans, then provide your own...
  19. Yes, they can still be present elsewhere. Something like 30-40% of people with an E disorder have increased eosinophils in their blood (I can't remember the number offhand) but the rest do not. Do a search for eosinophilic on this board and you should find some great things. The best sites are www.apfed.org, the cincinnati children's hospital center for...
  20. Health Valley makes a gluten free Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken soup. They can be a little difficult to find for some people though. Progresso makes a "Creamy Mushroom" soup that is gluten free. I thicken it a bit on the stove with a bit of gluten free flour.
  21. Jess, The three sites that I have used (glutenfreemall, allergygrocer, and glutenfreepantry) do not carry them online. But I believe that you can do a search on K's webpage for stores near you that carry them? Hope you find them L
  22. Marcia, I also LOVE their chocolate chips They are great! I've had both Enjoy Life bagels as well as Kinninnick. I prefer Kinni's taste, but they really were both good, IMO. Enjoy life makes a lot of products that I have enjoyed. I'm sorry you were glutened Whole Foods has a gluten free bakery that only makes their own gluten free products...
  23. Ditto. Mine was after my mom told me to have the test done for it because she'd read about it. Unfortunately, my doctors also knew "zip, nada" as well. Perfect. Thank goodness for the internet/particularly this site, Dr. Green's book, and journal articles
  24. I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!
  25. From one happy to another, I wanted to welcome you on board! I really am sorry that some members of your family are not understanding. Unfortunately, there are many people in similar situations on this board. Our society is not equipped well to deal with chronic/mystery issues. It can lead the sick then to feel crazy, especially when they don't have...
