  1. Is it possible you have a bug or the flu? It may not actually be related to gluten contamination. It could also be some kind of bacterial infection. Hope you start to feel better soon.
  2. Hi, I had a similar problem to you. When they wanted to do a biopsy, I told the nurse at the clinic I had not been eating gluten long enough for the results to be accurate but she insisted that there was 'hidden' gluten in products and I was probably still having gluten. I told her I made everything from scratch and in no way was I having gluten. She...
  3. According to information I was supplied with when I was first diagnosed, the gluten in whiskey is removed in the distilling process, so it shouldn't be a problem. Is it possible you could have been contaminated from something else?
  4. Hi! How were you tested for coeliac disease? If it was a blood test, they are not very reliable (and you may still have coeliac disease - although you need to be eating gluten for at least 6 weeks on a daily basis for you to get a reliable result. The best way of getting checked is by having a biopsy.
  5. Not everyone feels better overnight. Some people that have had problems for years and then go gluten free, a lot of damage has already been done, so it makes sense that it takes longer to improve their health. In the case of coeliacs, which may or may not be the same for you, damage is done not only to the gut, but other areas are affected, for example...
  6. When you say the stock contained glutamate, do you mean monosodiumglutamate (MSG?) because that usually is derived from wheat and not suitable for a gluten free diet. Also, if you have not been on a gluten free diet for long, it could just be your body detoxing. When I first went gluten free I felt great but then every week or so I would throw up everything...
  7. I agree with the comments made above. You need to take coeliac disease seriously and cut out all wheat and gluten, as well as avoiding all cross contamination of gluten etc too. The way you'd phrased the questions, I get the feeling that you had already given these issues serious thought and that you just wanted someone to confirm what you'd been thinking...
  8. Hi, It took a few months for my body to settle down after giving up gluten and wheat. It won't be an overnight miracle; think of all the damage that the gluten has done to your body over time, so it may take a while before you start to feel anywhere near 'normal'. I found that my body went into detox mode after giving up gluten and wheat, and that can...
  9. I didn't realise they all had wheat germ oil in them. I will email the company though. Thanks.
  10. Last week I did my usual root touch up with a water soluble hair dye; but in the mixing process I accidentally spilled it and I accidentally inhaled the powder. Later that day I noticed the familiar gluten contamination symptoms. Feeling sick, stomach cramps, extra trips to the bathroom. I am wondering whether there was any wheat derivatives in the hair...
  11. Hi, What stood out from your post, was the fact you are eating Quinoa. For all it is supposed to be gluten free - technically. It can actually mimics the protein found in wheat and gluten and some coeliacs can't actually eat it, as it makes them suffer the same symptoms as when consuming gluten/wheat. This happened to me and I stumbled up information on...
  12. Whilst I had bad symptoms before being diagnosed, I also had problems for a while after giving up gluten. It is the body's way of detoxing from what it perceives as poison (which it is to people with coeliac disease). Hang on in there, it will improve soon. I believe that it can effect any part of the body including the skin, as after all, it is the largest...
  13. That is extreme! We get our groceries delivered to the door and we get the gluten free stuff packed in with the gluten things all the time. If I rang up and asked them not to do that they would think I was a sandwich short of a full picnic
  14. I agree with the other comments, it's only a week! Do you not eat the same meals? If I prepare a meal when family stay, everyone eats the same thing (and if anyone staying has an allergy I always respect that and cater for their needs). I would feel terrible if I'd made someone else ill through not catering for their intolerances or other dietary problem...
  15. NoGrainNoPain, Last week I had some gluten free crackers that were made with quinoa (from my local health store) I have been in pain ever since, it took me a couple of days to work out what was making me ill. By that time, I had eaten them 3 days in a row. I have had terrible stomach cramps etc. When I read an article about the protein in quinoa mimicking...
  16. I can understand that. I have found that I need to take supplements all the time, as I don't absorb enough if certain vitamins and minerals. Before you get pregnant you should get all the levels checked, and take your doctor's advice on which supplements you can take whilst pregnant.
  17. Mine used to be low too. How long have you had celiac disease? It can take a while to build yourself up again from a host of deficiencies (vitamins and minerals). I wouldn't advise a tanning bed, these carry their own health risks without adding to what you have already. Supplements are a much safer alternative.
  18. Thanks Cristiana, So I'm now a member of the wonky blood test results brigade . I will be speaking to my doctor on Monday, so hopefully I will find out then if it's the same as elevated blood protein. It seems we all learn from each other when we pool our resources. I would have hoped that by now though, my test results would have improved, being diagnosed...
  19. Hi Cristiana, I don't recall having elevated protein levels, (or not that I've been told), but have had other abnormal results, one in particular is liver enzymes (waiting for an appointment with doctor as I write this). Gemini, where did you go in Britain? In my neck of the woods, there's not many that specialise in gluten free
  20. I wish I had the answer to this and hope someone on here is able to throw some light on it. I also feel the same way about the blood tests and am always apprehensive while waiting for results. The tests they carry out in UK seem different to the ones in US, I don't know whether it's because we call them something different or what.

Hi, I would just like to add to what cyclinglady has said, as she's pretty much covered everything: You said you were feeling much better after a week of not eating gluten, but not 100%. When I came off gluten, I started to feel better gradually, not overnight, in fact, I went through a detox phase, which brought on vomiting bouts etc., for a few months...
  22. Last year I read a book which was all about the dangers of hidden gluten within food, things you would not necessarily associate with gluten. One of them was blue cheese! It said, apparently, the wires that are placed within the cheese to make it blue, can be coated in flour, to stop the wires sticking to the change. Regarding the lactose intolerance....
  23. I live in the UK and I have also heard that popcorn ceiling has asbestos in. We covered ours up by screwing a wooden cross section into it and then putting plastic cladding on with sunken lights (It looks way better than it sounds). The only other way to cover popcorn ceiling (we call popcorn ceiling artex) is to skim it,which basically is plastering the...
  24. Has anyone else had problems with severe muscle pain and/or spasms in muscles? I was diagnosed about 3 years ago with celiac disease and it was muscle weakness that lead to a diagnosis as I had severely low ferritin levels. Unfortunately my muscle problems keep coming back even though I am totally gluten free. I have mentioned this elsewhere a while back...
  25. Well possibly made the problem worse, it would be difficult to prove it was her. The thing is, my bone scan (DEXA scan) I had after coeliac diagnosis showed early stages of osteoporosis (although, it took the hospital a year to actually tell me!
