  1. Were you on the gluten-free diet when he tested you? In your earlier post you said you were trying the diet...if you were not eating gluten regularly for weeks before the test it can result in a false negative. Eating gluten for a few days or for a week before testing is not sufficient. It takes awhile for the antibodies to appear in the blood.
  2. Good point! I notice people don't seem to understand food causing autoimmune disease. They only understand allergy and generally with a food allergy people dont have to scrutinize every little thing that goes into their mouth and read labels or talk to the waiter for 10 minutes about every ingredient in their meal. It probably seems a little "overboard...
  3. That is my experience as well. However, I think if I hadnt gotten as sick as I did and had the obvious weightloss....it would be a different story. In the beginning when my symptoms first started noone really believed me...they couldnt understand why I was missing so much work when I "looked" fine to them. By the time I started the diet I had been so sick...
  4. Ooohh...That would be SO great!
  5. OMG...Don't get me started on jelly donuts! If I was picking out a dozen the jelly donuts ALWAYS got picked first. I ate them all the time and also the hostess powdered jelly donuts. Funny, I havent even thought about them once since starting the diet. Now...I'm missing those too! Sheeesh...maybe I should stop reading this thread.
  6. Any food panel testing doesnt have anything to do with diagnosing Celiac. He would have to have the Celiac panel done. Maybe the doc did run Celiac tests and thats what he's referring to as the "markers"??The blood tests can give false negatives in kids his age though so I wouldnt rely on them anyways. Definately put him on the diet and see if he improves...
  7. I agree. No way would I be treating with drugs before trying the diet. Did he have specific tests for Celiac done or just food allergy tests?
  8. This is what it states further down the page: Glutenzyme Plus is a digestive enzyme complex specifically designed to break down the gluten proteins in cereals and grains. However, people with coeliac disease should still avoid eating the grains. Personally, I would skip the gluten foods and enjoy the holidays (w/out being sick).
  9. Yeah...thats how I felt. I had forgotten about them until I saw them in a Rite-Aid and I got all nostalgic about them. That was a few weeks ago and they're still on my mind.
  10. It says that people with Celiac Disease should not eat these grains anyways. Its not going to stop the autoimmune response from occurring so I don't see how it would be helpful. Sorry.
  11. I miss those Danish butter cookies that come out during the holidays. Don't know what they're called but they come in a round blue tin and have 2 layers of yummy cookies. I miss those. Also, those round snowball type cookies and...oh yeah....hostess cupcakes and ding dongs and twinkies!!!
  12. I don't know about gluten getting absorbed into the skin but it can definately get on your hands and into your mouth if your products arent gluten-free. I was using Aubrey Organics lotion and got REALLY sick. It had wheat germ oil in it and it was getting all over my food and who knows how many times I was licking my fingers. I lost weight in the short...
  13. YAY!! I was hoping by the time I got off work someone would have posted the article. Thanks!! That was a great article. Also thanks to George for your efforts.
  14. I just had one of those dreams 2 nights ago. I was at a resteraunt somewhere w/ my family. There was all kinds of deserts you could just grab...like a buffet. I kept staring at these brownies. I even picked one up...I was fighting with myself cuz I wanted to eat it SO bad! I ended up not eating it. I think I had the dream because at work I saw a new...
  15. Scott is the Admin.
  16. I see stevia at pretty much all the health food stores and even some regular grocery stores have it in the healthy section. It comes in liquid form too.
  17. What test is it that you're taking? Are you still doing the York bloodtest? I like your new pic...very cute!
  18. I had a very similar experience when I went this route after too many frusterating appointments with my regular doctors which got me nowhere. The doctor I saw was an alternative doc but she was also an M.D. I sat with her for over an hour and she was REALLY nice and understanding. This was about 8 months before I found out about gluten so at the time my visit...
  19. I don't think celiac3270 was saying EVERYONE who suffers from these conditions has underlying Celiac. We all know not everyone dies from Celiac. We also know that Celiac CAN in fact cause all of those things on that list...and we also know that there are WAY more people out there who have Celiac and don't know it compared to those who are diagnosed and on...
  20. Nobody here was saying (or thinking) that *everyone* has Celiac...thats complete nonsense. I think you've missed the point.
  21. Yeah...thanks for that list Jen! What about ghee though? I have some and it says on the jar that its lactose and casein free. Can it really be casein free?
  22. Beware of anything that states "wheat free". You want it to say gluten-free...wheat free just means no wheat.
  23. I dont know who told you that you could just eat some bread one day before...thats WRONG! Like Tiffany said....its 3 months of gluten before testing if you want accurate results....not that there arent false negatives anyway but you'll definately be negative if you eat it only one day prior. You couldnt see your post because it hadnt been "pinned" by...
  24. Is goat cheese casein free?
  25. I think you are probably right. He did get those genes from someone. I have Graves too....at first I assumed it was the Graves causing my symptoms but my PTU wasnt eliminating the symptoms and it always had worked very quickly in the past. I got talked into radioactive iodine and even after going hypo and then stabalizing my levels...my symptoms just got...
