ARCHIVED Sores
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Do any foods contain them or would I have to supplement? I'm not taking any fatty acids although I've tried them in the past with no noticeable difference but maybe I wasnt absorbing them properly. -
I have flat feet. Completely flat...no arch whatsover. My friend always tell me I can never be in the service because they won't accept me due to having flat feet.

Wandering Hermit, Enterolab actually doesnt diagnose anyone with celiac disease. They will only tell you if your body is producing anti-gliadin antibodies. They can also tell you what genes you have and if you have malabsorption or not. I think something like 70% test positive. This is NOT 70% of the population but 70% of the people who test at Enterolab...

I guess what I was trying to say is that leaky gut and villi damage seen in biopsy are 2 different things. Lots of things can cause leaky gut...stress, food, antibiotics...etc. However, you cant *see* leaky gut...it doesnt show up in a biopsy. Believe me, I know what leaky gut is because I have it but I also just had a "pefect" biopsy. Villi damage is caused... -
ARCHIVED Trying To Figure This Out...
Rachel--24 replied to jnifred's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well it definately sounds like it could be celiac. Its genetic so it wouldnt be unusual if more than one person in your family has it. One way to find out though...get tested. -
Christa, You dont have to do a search to get to a forum. All you have to do is go into whichever forum you would like to post your topic. On the top right you will see "new topic" or "new poll".

Everything I've ever read regarding gluten says it CANT be absorbed through the skin. It has to be ingested to cause damage BUT some people may have skin reactions because they are simply sensitive to it... but its not actually being absorbed into the skin and causing intestinal damage. Thats my understanding anyways.

I understand any food intolerances can irritate the gut wall or cause leaky gut but I have never read anything that says Type II food reactions can damage the villi as seen in the biopsy. I've read some rare cases of casein intolerance causing villi damage but I think its pretty specific for celiac disease and gluten is primarily the problem. I'm not aware... -
ARCHIVED Celiac?not Sure
Rachel--24 replied to christa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've been gluten-free 2 1/2 months now....which isnt really very long but I still react to other foods. I think it takes awhile to heal completely. I'm also taking enzymes and probiotics to help. And yes...eating gluten *at all* is enough to cause problems. Being on a low-gluten diet isn't going to change symptoms...its still causing damage. -
ARCHIVED Could It Be Because I Have Celiac?
Rachel--24 replied to cookiedog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes...its called brainfog and I had it real bad before I stopped eating gluten. It was one of my worst symptoms. I had problems with my memory, my concentration, hardly able to have a conversation at times and there were times when it wasnt even safe for me to drive. All better now that I'm on the diet. -
I thought gluten was actually too large to actually be absorbed into the skin??

ARCHIVED Blood Test Rant
Rachel--24 replied to darkangel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good for you for setting her straight! Yeah...they've told me my veins roll too...I didn't really know what they meant by that. I have the same routine everytime. I sit sideways in the chair (I never look) and I close my eyes and then for whatever reason I push on my eyes with my fingers till its over. Occasionally they'll do a great job and if I... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Rant
Rachel--24 replied to darkangel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sheesh...I would *not* have let them stick me that many times! I would have freaked out on them. I have tiny veins and they usually have trouble finding one. Even though I've had my blood drawn about a million times the past 3 years I'm still a BIG baby about it. I'll never get used to it. I vividly remember one guy who absolutely missed my vein and I was... -
ARCHIVED Girls Only - Need Advice On Putting On Weight
Rachel--24 replied to Matilda's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Matilda, 109 doesnt sound too bad to me. Are you very tall? You actually weigh more than me...I'm at 105...up from 94lbs 2 months ago. I gained 10 lbs. pretty quickly once I got rid of all the gluten but I'm just stuck at 105 now. I'd like about 15 lbs more but I'd be happy with 10. I'm only 5'2 so 105 looks normal on me and its what I weighed most... -

Kelliac, You had a positive biopsy for celiac but have no celiac genes? Wow! so it really can happen this way. Thats what my GI told me but alot of people say w/out the genes you cannot have Celiac. I guess you prove them wrong. Do you happen to remember your genes? -
Well...it can happen pretty easily. I can give you examples of how it happened to me. I put my lotion all over my face, hands and body. Now I have wheat germ oil all over me. If I sweat it can get into my mouth. If I cut up some fruit and eat it the fruit slices are all contaminated from the lotion on my hands. I also touch my face alot...then touch my food...
-
I think you really need to concentrate on your diet and learn how to be 100% gluten-free. Did you do things like get a new toaster, check your shampoo, lotions, etc. Also you need to find out if any of your meds have gluten in them. This is a great place to learn everything you need to know.

ARCHIVED General Symptoms Question
Rachel--24 replied to zip2play's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you read Dangerous Grains? If your celiac tests come back negative again why dont you just seriously go on the diet? Its definately not going to hurt you and you obviously have problems with gluten. I dont have a celiac diagnosis but like my GI told me....whatever kind of gluten sensitivity I have...whether its Celiac or not...it was still harming me... -
ARCHIVED General Symptoms Question
Rachel--24 replied to zip2play's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can have celiac disease and feel perfectly fine after eating gluten. So...no you dont have to experience pain everytime you eat gluten and you could still have celiac disease. -
ARCHIVED I Started The Gf Diet
Rachel--24 replied to Danijela's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Those are my symptoms too....getting glutened sucks. Especially when your licking about 20 envelopes and end up majorly spaced out and crying. That used to happen everytime I payed my bills. Danijela, Like everyone else already said. Dont eat rye bread. I know you are just starting the diet but if you dont do it 100% you wont know if its working or... -

ARCHIVED Sores
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The only thing besides gluten that may have triggered some of my sores is caffiene. I noticed I could not tolerate caffiene at all anymore when I first started getting sick. I thought it had something to do with my Graves Disease though. Anyways I avoided it completely the last 3 years. A couple months back I was drinking starbucks and 3 times in a row I... -

Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't think I'm getting glutened from work at all. I'm running a totally different dept. now and I'm nowhere near the bakery. I also wear gloves all the time and wash my hands frequently. So far no problems. My new position is way less stressful and much more enjoyable. I really lucked out cuz I'm still getting the same benefits of my old position (weekends... -

ARCHIVED Barbara's Bakery Cereal
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well...I'm glad I posted about this. I was expecting everyone to say they are fine with the cereal and I'd be left wondering....like usual. Maybe I'm getting better about figuring out my reactions and where they're coming from. I thought I had recovered quickly but I was wrong. Chemical sensitivities and food sensitivities have been BAD all week and...
