  1. Aw (((skittles))) So sorry you're going through all this... and I can so relate. I went through about four months of feeling like ANYTHING I ate was going to make me nauseous and sick. And it usually did. I even went through days last month of eating almost nothing because I was so dang tired of it all!!! Finally, in month five, things at last seem...
  2. I had a few of these show up on my tummy earlier this year, right around the time all my other symptoms came down in a big way. I figured they were that cherry thingie too.
  3. I have these nightmares all the time of shoving something gluten-filled in my mouth before I realize it... The only good part is when I wake up and realize it wasn't true! Strange thing is I never came close to doing this in real life... (knocks on wood).
  4. I have been wondering this too!!! I don't understand why the experts say that "some" anti-gliadin antibodies are "normal." Do we produce "some" antibodies for everything we eat? I'd love to know the answer!
  5. Congrats on the weight loss! How do you like the gluten-free Medifast plan? I lost 40 lbs. on regular Medifast five years ago, and loved it. Kept it off, too, until this whole celiac-ish adventure set in last year... I actually think being on MF and then moderate-carb maintenance delayed the onset of my symptoms, because I was getting very little gluten until...
  6. I agree that getting glutened every few days is not acceptable! This is serious stuff. I'm sure your gas symptoms will improve once you get that under control. Gas and bloating are among my major problems too but they're gotten much much better the longer I'm gluten-free. I did the gas-X too but now I don't have to. I've been gluten-free for 4 months and...
  7. Mouth sores can be a symptom of B vitamin deficiency (esp B2). Mine just showed up after four months gluten-free. From what I hear, this is a pretty common deficiency due to malabsorption that I guess (hope) gets better with time. Hopefully others with more experience will chime in here...
  8. Sounds like "rapid transit," as my doc called it, or malabsorption. At least that's what my doc told me when similar stuff was happening. If it was me, I'd call the doctor.

    ARCHIVED Aroma!

    :D LOL!!
  10. Thanks for all your input... I didn't even think of calling my insurance company, I will get the codes and do that. Doh! (slaps forehead) My iron levels were tested as part of a complete blood panel, but not the other stuff. My doc has been saying "maybe" I ought to be tested for malabsorption in a little while, but his idea of a "wait and see" time...
  11. This from another site (Open Original Shared Link): Update on Edible Films Adapted from Food Technology, Vol 51, No 2, Feb 97, pp 60, 62-63 Scientific Status Summary by John M. Druchta and Catherine DeMulder Johnston / University of California-Davis Lifeline, Spring 1997, Vol XV, No 2, pp 1-3 a "The materials that have received the greatest attention...
  12. Okay, that gives me some perspective... maybe I just need get more assertive on him! Thanks. Alas, I live in sunny California, also did not have anemia show in the blood tests I did have, although I did have low protein and lymphocytes, which he didn't think were a big deal.
  13. Have any of you been tested for vitamin and other deficiencies? Has insurance covered it? I'm frustrated and worried as to how, in the long run, I will be able to tell if I still have malabsorption issues. I'm not self-diagnosed, just under-diagnosed. My doc says I definitely have a gluten intolerance which may be celiac, but we never did the biopsy...
  14. My glutening symptoms do not especially include belching (although they always start with that, hmm... funny), but they do last five days. Or more.

    ARCHIVED Aroma!

I think I would really truly miss the smell of the occasional piece of warm French bread if it weren't for a gluten-free baguette I buy at Whole Foods (I think the brand is Against the Grain?) It makes the best garlic bread! It's a little eggier than most baguettes, but I actually prefer that. That bread alone has saved me from missing anything bread-like...
  16. My skin is fairly dry all over but the Keratosis skin wasn't any drier than the rest. Not sure why the sloughing and moisturizer works for me, but it does!
  17. Interesting, I didn't know that about the allergies. I've had it on my thighs and the back of both upper arms since i was a kid. I don't trip on it much, but I do know that tub soaks and scrubbing with a moisturizing wash followed by lots of moisturizer has made it disappear for me. Just have to keep it up though.
  18. Yup, have had it all my life. I never knew it was a "condition" until recently, just thought it was my weird skin... Don't tell me this, too, is related to celiac??
  19. Dang, I did not know that such an occupation even existed! But welcome, by the way, although I am pretty much a newbie here too. I'd sure like to hear if others have experience good/bad with that type of therapy.... I feel a bit skeptical because it seems "It's in your head," is the most common thing some doctors say. Not ruling it out though, but like...
  20. LOL!!!!
  21. Also, I don't know specific restaurants, but a friend who traveled to Barcelona a few years ago said many restaurants have special gluten-free menus. Look for menus marked "Para Celiacos"
  22. Well, my guts react very strongly to gluten (in a bad way) and now I also seem to have a wheat allergy to boot. So that pretty much leaves me no choice but to be gluten-free. Have you tried eliminating and then re-introducing gluten into your diet? I did that twice, and each time the nasty results clinched it for me. ps. I mean only if your biopsy is...
  23. So happy for you!! What wonderful news.
  24. Even before I was diagnosed, for a lot of my life I've had a burning in my stomach that I always mistook for hunger pangs. So I would eat. And eat... hoping to make the "pangs" go away. I think now it was really the heartburn that comes with being glutened, because the only other time it disappeared before going gluten-free was when I was on a low carb...
  25. Just wanted to say if anyone's touring California's "other" wine country, this cafe was wonderful. I have been so afraid to eat out, but was relieved when I saw they make sandwiches on gluten-free bread. The waitress understood immediately about CC and took it very seriously. My grilled bacon avocado sandwich on Ezekiel bread was fabulous. On another...
