  1. Hmmm... since I am a wino, this could be good news! ps. Ooops, just saw this was a little old. But still news to me...
  2. Well, thanks to this thread and after feeling pretty darn lousy following my tofu dinner the other night, I've decided to try a week soy-free. Since my gut reactions are immediate and quite, um, obvious, I figure I should know right away if that is an issue. I have lactose intolerance and have tested corn, eggs and grains in general but never thought about...
  3. I'm not biopsy diagnosed but wanted to add my two cents anyway . I'm in kind of a similar boat... "assumed celiac," as you put it, by my doc, since I couldn't have a biopsy at the time (also negative ttg but high anti-gliadin IgA). I did a mini-gluten challenge two weeks ago because we wanted see how my glutening symptoms might be differing from other...
  4. I just bought a can of Whole Foods "365" pumpkin and in the fine print it says it's from a facility that processes wheat. Pumpkin of all things!! Another donation to my friend's cupboard. (Edited because it wasn't the organic pumpkin, it was the Whole Foods 365 brand. My bad)
  5. I am one of the rare folks who was born with lactose intolerance -- couldn't even tolerate mother's milk! Parents went crazy until they figured out I could only handle goat's milk. (I was 6 weeks preemie, apparently that goes with being lactose intolerant). Later it went away, but in recent years it has come to rear its ugly head again (I'm 55). Symptoms...
  6. I haven't been diagnosed with PN, but the pins and needles numbness in my feet early this year scared the bejeebers out of me (many months before my doc told to try gluten-free). I was sure I had MS. All I know is that symptom has completely disappeared since going gluten-free. It took about two months to go away. Also, my severe joint pain is mostly gone...
  7. I loved it. It's the thin one (I did not like their thicker one). It was frozen, I brushed it with olive oil and baked it a little till just a little golden on the edges, then baked it with the toppings in a 475 degree oven. I'm a fan!
  8. Agreed. I was in a store last week that had a huge "gluten free" banner across a whole freezer case, but NO gluten free foods in it. At all. When I asked the clerk, he just shrugged and said that stuff's getting more popular so maybe if I asked the manager they might start to carry it but probably not. Huh? That was a definite 'what the...?' moment.
  9. Clam-anchovy-pesto thin crust pizza (Udi's crust). And no, I'm not pregnant!
  10. Oooh, if you're talking about Babycakes NYC, they are to die for! I went to their LA bakery and was in heaven. Yes, they are pricy but it's sooooo nice to walk into a place that understands you!!! And I don't even have a sweet tooth.... (or at least I didn't before this. I seem to be growing one lately). It's funny I was watching the news reports at work...
  11. Sorry I don't have an answer but I am hoping to see a GI doc soon too... so I'm looking forward to seeing the answers here.
  12. Wow. Just wow. I want to say "unbelieveable" but I am learning fast that nothing is unbelievable when it comes to doctors and celiac. I wholeheartedly ditto the thank you's for all the help and common sense and support you give everyone here.
  13. You might try out Lactaid chewable tablets with your dairy. For me, it helps a lot. I also avoid the dairy products with the most lactose (milk & ice cream) and stick to hard cheese and other lower-lactose foods. I'm going on four months gluten-free and am just getting on-off bloating which is way better than the fulltime inflation I felt before. It...
  14. OK nowwww I get the Frank Burns thing... doh!
  15. Just a thought -- have you been tested for amebiasis? I traveled a lot to Mexico in the past and found it very difficult to get properly tested and treated in the US for tropical parasites. Not unlike Celiac, doctors here have very little experience with it. Once when I had a very bad case of amebic dysentery, the first round of Flagyl did nothing and...
  16. This thread is scary or hilarious, or both. I just emailed my doc about a severe allergic reaction during my recent gluten challenge and also mentioned the constant, chronic diarrhea I've had since June. Another doc was filling in for mine, and today she wrote, "It sounds like you're getting better." (*pulls hair out with both hands*) !!!! Then she...
  17. I have those dreams too!!! Weird...
  18. I hear you! I so thought (or wanted to think) I would be like those people we read about who tried going gluten-free and two weeks later felt sooooo much better... alas, I am NOT one of them. I guess like the pros here say, it's going to a matter of patience and trying different things as we heal.
  19. I think I'm going to add this to the "things doctors say" thread. I emailed my doc about the allergic reaction and concerns about my constant diarrhea since June. Another doc was filling in for mine, and she wrote back today saying, "Sounds like you're getting better." Arrgghh!!!
  20. Ohhhh this was so painful to read... I have no idea why I haven't done that yet, because I am sooo capable of popping something into my mouth without thinking about it. It's been a miracle I haven't done it (yet). Done plenty of other dumb stuff though, like seeing "berries" on the label of a drink and not realizing until it was way too late that it said...
  21. Thanks for posting this... lots of new things I didn't know!
  22. This whole thread is an eye-opener to me. I always thought that villi damage meant celiac no matter what, except for temporary flattening due to giardia or tropical sprue. BellaBella, I hope you get some kind of help soon. Maybe you should get the gene test for celiac?
  23. I'm curious what are the symptoms of low stomach acid?
  24. Thanks. Here's something interesting. I accidentally did my own at-home allergy skin scratch test for wheat! I decided since I had that allergic reaction to throw out a bag of stale bread my (now gluten-free) housemate had been saving to make bread crumbs. My forearm got accidentally scratched a little by the stale, rough bread... and guess what...
