katebuggie, I think we can all say we have probably been were you are, at one time or another. I know I have been. Still, after 8 yrs of being gluten free, my body is very structured, it has it's own system, and it must follow it's own regiment. Being thrown out of wack, takes weeks to get back into shape. I went on vacation on May 8th, came back on May...

ARCHIVED Do Celiacs Have A Weaker Immune System?
darlindeb25 replied to ptkds's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I too, find this to only be true of the celiac who has not healed yet. Once you have been gluten free for some time, your immune system gets better than average. It seems like a celiac's immune system spends more time fighting itself, then it does worrying about outside influences. I rarely ever pick up viruses, rarely ever catch colds, yet my body will... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Hair Products
darlindeb25 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm sorry, I never use Suave products, so I can't comment on them. They just can't handle my hair. My hair is very thick, and Suave conditioners, V05, White Rain--none of them work with my hair. I have to stick with more expensive products, much to my dismay. Even Dove, after Kaiti told me how well it works for her, it doesn't work for me--it leaves my... -
Our kids were in heaven! They thought it wonderful, no yelling at them! Honest, it lasted all summer. Now, men tell me it's a very sexy voice!

ARCHIVED Do I Call Myself A Celiac?
darlindeb25 replied to GlutenFree4Life's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I never had an official diagnosis, I have had several wrong diagnosis--which so many of us have had. IBS, nervous stomach, colitus, too much stress, maybe diverticulitus (stop eating any seeds and nuts) a reacurring flu virus, and my personal favorite, "It's all in your head!" Twenty six yrs ago, when I got pregnant with my daughter, and was on birth... -
ARCHIVED Warning About Puritans Pride
darlindeb25 replied to mysecretcurse's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We have a Puritan Pride Outlet Center just a few miles away and there are very few vitamins that I found that state gluten free, and even those contain barley grasses. I do not trust barely grasses, I don't care how many people will tell us they are safe, I will not trust them. One vitamin they listed as gluten free, stated a gluten in the ingredients,... -
I'm not sure what to tell you. My sister and I both lost our voices long before going gluten free. We lost them for nearly an entire summer. Now we have these raspy voices, very similiar to each other, so much so, that when she leaves me a voicemail on my phone, I actually think I am listening to myself at first!!! That happened to us when our boys were...

Asillem4--I love your line--Do I look like a Celiac???? That is the one line 2 different doctors used on 2 of my sons. When they asked their doctors to be tested for celiac disease at my request, both of their doctors looked at them and said, "You don't need to be tested, you don't look celiac!!!" I just looked at my sons and said, "What, do your Aunt...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Get Sick From Wine?
darlindeb25 replied to RunnerGirl4's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Could have been either! I can't drink wine, or any alcohol, for that matter. Did you check to see if the restuarant knew what they were doing when cooking gluten free? If they are well known for gluten free food, then it probably was not the food, if you are just thinking you ordered something that should be gluten free, then probably you are dealing with... -
ARCHIVED Gas Prices---geez
darlindeb25 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
There are some days that I could walk the distance--it is a little more than a mile, and I have walked it, when my car was in the shop. I do have peripheral neuropathy, with drop foot effecting my left foot, and I could walk it, if I had too, but, I don't have too. Walking that distance to work some days would cause me pain, I also may not beable to walk... -
ARCHIVED Gas Prices---geez
darlindeb25 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Well, here on the island, there are trains and buses, but I only live 1 mile from work--it would be a longer drive to the train station, then it is to work! Besides the fact, the train would give me a panic attack! Yeah, I drove to Michigan for vacation, but that's how I have to travel. I tend to panic any other way. I can't fly, and bus travel... -
ARCHIVED Is Gluten Intolance The Same As Celiac Disease
darlindeb25 replied to lacy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, in my opinion, gluten intolerance is the beginning stages and celiac disease is when the villi has become flatten and the doctors can definitely tell you are very very sick. I personally feel it's all celiac disease, doctors just can't tell until the villi is flattened. One day they will know the difference, just like we do! You know, the difference... -
ARCHIVED Need Help (very Sick) Have Questions
darlindeb25 replied to Ander3223's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It would be better if your doctor would test you for celiac before you are gluten free. If she refuses to test you, maybe you should see another doctor. 2 weeks gluten free isn't long enough for you to have seen too much improvement yet. If you just want to feel better and don't really care about a celiac diagnosis, then continue eating gluten free and... -
Average gas price here on Long Island has just been listed at $4.05 a gallon!!!! Yesterday, I heard on the radio, there was a station in Amagaset, on the east end of the island, where the gas was $4.60 a gallon, diesel $5.25. This has got to stop! Between here and Michigan, the lowest price I found last week was $3.69, somewhere in Pennsylvania. Michigan...

I just returned from my yearly vacation to Michigan, and finally, I think my mom understands. My sister and father also are gluten free. I, on the other hand also have many other intolerance's that they do not have to worry about. For a very long time, my mother seemed to refuse to understand that fact. She would say to me, "Soy is not a gluten, YOU CAN...

Sorry Mom23boys You're wrong about this--the kitchen staff brings the food, but the nurse does not order it. The nurse may write down what you say, on the chart, but it's the dieticians job to read that chart and see what you need to have. I know this is a fact, my sister is a dietcian! She/he goes to the patients and finds out what they need! It is...

ARCHIVED Whats Your Favorit Band?
darlindeb25 replied to kimis's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm a Blues/Country Music fan--I love guitar music. Delbert McClinton, Eric Clapton, Trace Atkins, Kenny Chesney, Sugarland, Coco Montoya, etc. -
This is a great thread, and, I have heard most of these things over my 8 yrs of being gluten free. I have worked with the same people now for over 3 yrs, and still, I hear some of these comments, just when I think they understand, they will ask another "stupid" question! "Flour doesn't contain wheat, does it?" "Why can't you eat licorice?", to which I...

ARCHIVED Latent Celiac Or Not?
darlindeb25 replied to Gez's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Gez, I take it you are from the UK? I don't know what the laws are there, so I can't comment on that. The one thing I do want to say is, I do not believe in latent celiac. That's like telling someone they are a little pregnant! Either you are pregnant or you aren't! Either you are celiac, or you aren't! If a doctor can say the word celiac to you, then... -
ARCHIVED Chemical Sensitivities?
darlindeb25 replied to holiday16's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks huevo_no_bueno for the website, I will check it out when I get back home. I am having a quiet coffee moment while on vacation. It's very early morning here and my friends cat woke me up for a treat! So, I thought I would check out the forum! Someone mentioned Glade Plug-ins--me too. Especially the vanilla scented ones. The boss also used those... -
ARCHIVED Chemical Sensitivities?
darlindeb25 replied to holiday16's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Me too, I have always been sensitive to odors, allergic to smoke. I've been gluten free nearly 8 yrs and it's not getting better. So far, the worst thing for me is Carpet Fresh--it gives me a sinus infection. It changes my breathing almost immediately. I mentioned in another thread, last week I have a reaction to my hair dye. I have used the same brand... -
Michelle: I can totally relate to you! I have been gluten free for 8 years in August, my sister 8 years this last March, and our dad will be gluten free 4 yrs in Nov. My mom totally understands gluten free. I, different from the other 2, also am intolerant of so many other things, and she just can not understand that. When I say I can't have soy,...

ARCHIVED Muffins Mix Making Me Sick
darlindeb25 replied to MDRB's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You also may be reacting to the soy, or even the poppy seeds, I can't have either! Actually, I can't have any of those ingredients, but if you can have them in other products, then that may not be the problem for you. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Asthma?
darlindeb25 replied to Mango04's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks Deb, I haven't tried my Albuterol yet, I have been afraid of the reaction I will have. At least now, I have an idea of what happens to you. I have the very same triggers as you, amazing huh? I can relate to everything you said. The other night, I dyed my hair, and this has never happened to me, never. It's not really related to asthma, but still... -
I have that problem with soy, corn, and rice--not with gluten.
