Morning Lynn--Rt 110 is Broad Hollow Rd--I hope that helps. Personally, I have never been to the college--the number is 2350 Broad Hollow--if you go to Mapquest and type in your address, then the college address, it will give you directions. I'm sure if you have been there before, then you will remember once you see the directions. Kev will tell me how...

ARCHIVED Can You Still Get Sick From Something W/ Gluten In It
darlindeb25 replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Richard is correct. Also, some of us react to wheat in other ways. I am intolerant of gluten and also have an allergic reaction when it touches my skin. I can't use products containing soy or corn on my skin either. As an example: The other day I was spraying hairspray and coughed. It all happened so quickly, amazing how fast even. I was spraying... -
ARCHIVED Help! Hospital Food
darlindeb25 replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry . I've unfortunately never heard of a hospital accomodating a gluten-free diet. If you can, just tell them they are absolutely not allowed to feed her and bring all of her meals from home. Maybe you can give the hospital staff safe foods to give her for times when you're not there. This is not true of ALL hospitals! Some hospitals do accomodate... -
So today I make some gluten free brownies from scratch (I hate to bake from scratch). They are horrible, and I can't give the dog chocolate. The Hodgson Mills baking mix said it was delicious. They lied. Awwwwwwww Jo, I feel bad for you. Now, from reading this, I am confused, did you make the brownies from scratch or from a mix? When I make chocolate...

Congratulations Jerry--keep it up. Might I add, what a beautiful picture of you and the kids. I was thinking you said your kids were older, maybe I am remembering wrong--who is in the pic with you? The little guy looks like you.

ARCHIVED 1st Gluten Free Birthday
darlindeb25 replied to angel42's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I guess I am cut from a different mold them others, it never bothered me to go gluten free. Giving up wheat, rye, barley, and oats was great since I felt so much better. The only thing I missed was bread and noodles. For years and years going somewhere and eating was not enjoyable to me, so I began to associate good times as being with friends, people... -
ARCHIVED Leaving Job: What Reasons Has Anyone Ever Given For
darlindeb25 replied to debmidge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Morning Deb, just want to tell you good luck in whatever you do. My last 2 jobs in Michigan, there was no doubt in anyone's mind as to why I was leaving. Both bosses were totally obnoxious, off the wall cruel people and as proof of that, they both no longer have positions with either place I worked. The boss I have now didn't even care who I had worked... -
ARCHIVED In Hell
darlindeb25 replied to newyorkdave's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's weird, when I read about some of you being so upset when you go gluten free--I wasn't. Of course, my sister went gluten free in March and I could see the improvement in her, so maybe it was my role model! I was so happy to feel better, I didn't mind not having gluten. In the beginning, I ate ricecakes with peanut butter and cottage cheese with fruit... -
Welcome Gazza, there is a wealth of information on the internet, lots of very informative forums. Healing is a slow process and yes, you will have setbacks. Our bodies have to eliminate a lot of poisons to get well. Hope you feel better soon.

ARCHIVED Good Vitamins/supplements While Starting gluten-free Diet
darlindeb25 replied to newyorkdave's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Make sure you find a vitamin that is gluten free. Vitamins and medications do not follow the same guidelines as food. I use Nature Made brand, it tells on the box or bottle if it is gluten free. There are others too, I prefer this brand. I think all celiac's should take a good B Complex also. I take B12 and folic acid. I have peripheral neuropathy and... -

ARCHIVED The Fire Down Below
darlindeb25 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are very welcome. I find it so sad that we go to the doctor and tell them exactly what we know and they tell us we don't know what we are talking about. So many of us gave our doctors so much to work with and they just called us hypocondriacs, it's so sad and so aggravating. Then we are sick for so long and develope other problems--it's all so aggravating... -
It is true, after we celiac's eliminate the gluten from our diets, usually soy is the next intolerance's to pop up. The only soy I get now is soy lecithin and in margarine--I try to buy butter, yet I do not like it as much. They say that many soy intolerant people can handle some of the oil, something about the heating process making it change--not sure...

I too find I can't tolerate tapioca starch or potato starch, which leaves me with cornstarch, which thankfully doesn't seem to bother me even though I have trouble with corn. It always amazes me how a food can bother a person, yet there are certain parts of a food we can tolerate.

ARCHIVED Will I Ever Feel Better?
darlindeb25 replied to ElizabethN's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My cousin Jeanne had 9 kids and was on IV treatments for all 9 in the beginning of each pregnancy. I think this is more of a pregnancy problem than a celiac one. I had terrible motion sickness with my last 2 pregnancies--I couldn't see someone else in a rocking chair, let alone, rock. Keep your chin up--hope it passes soon. -

ARCHIVED Mcdonalds Fries Not Gluten Free
darlindeb25 replied to pnltbox27's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I'll bet if McDonalds had a separate room for the french fry fryer, used pure oil with no additives, and had a special employee that did nothing but cut up real potatoes and fry them right in front of your eyes, some celiacs (and others with food intolerances) would still claim the fries made them sick. There's an infinite variety of scenarios, real and imagined... -
ARCHIVED Human Physical Charateristics
darlindeb25 replied to deedub's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My sister, our dad, and I are all celiac and all different. She is 5'3 with a completely different body build than I, I am 5'5 with big bones, where she has a much smaller frame--my feet are bigger, my hands are bigger, yet our legs are the same length. Now dad used to be 6' tall and weigh 270#--before going gluten free he was down to 130# and looked like... -
ARCHIVED Mcdonalds Fries Not Gluten Free
darlindeb25 replied to pnltbox27's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Do a google search on McDonalds and court cases.... McDonalds lie about anything they can... you can find 100 court cases where they have presented misleading evidence or simply lied... This can be said about any huge company including the one everyone thinks they can trust--Kraft. I feel the opposite about McDonalds, they have always came forward... -
The first few years that I was gluten free, I didn't react to barley, yet that does not mean you are not damaging yourself inside. I found this out quite by accident. Quaker has a ricecake called Crackerjack, they actually have 2 different varieties of Crackerjack and I didn't know it. I loved them and was telling my sister about them--she warned me...

I discovered my corn intolerance when I made cornbread stuffing for a Christmas turkey in 04. I do find that I can tolerate cornstarch in products and actually, in the beginning I could eat fresh corn, it was just the processed corn I could not have. I haven tried eating regular corn since. I can't have corn chips, corn flour--the processed stuff. The...

ARCHIVED Red Eyes
darlindeb25 replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Jacqui--if your eyes are crusty, then you have conjuntivitus probably and you better see your eye doctor for meds. It will only get worse. Dry eyes should not get crusty. Celiac can cause dry eyes which would cause the redness, irritation...BUT if strick gluten-free will you still have it or is it supposed to eventually go away? Celiac disease can cause... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Done This?
darlindeb25 replied to Kyalesyin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A lot of "miracle babies" have been born while on the pill OOOOOOOOOOO I will have to tell my daughter she is a miracle baby. I always told her she was a wonderful surprise, she is the youngest of 5, the other 4 all boys! I was taking birth control pills and my body was not absorbing them. The doctor looked at me when we figured out I was pregnant again...
