ARCHIVED I Cant Stand Up
lorka150 replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
lister, i've mentioned this to you a few times, and you haven't seem to responded, but i'll try again. perhaps you should focus on more of a whole foods diet then eating so many pre-made and processed items. -
Open Original Shared Link Calming the immune system Last updated: Wednesday, November 09, 2005 A substance called tryptophan, found in turkeys and a number of other foods, can suppress an overactive immune system and may point the way to new treatments for autoimmune disorders, according to new research. ARCHIVED A Benefit Of Being Casein Free...
lorka150 posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
so i'm watching jeopardy and the 500$ question under 'dairy' was... "this milk protein ... something... " i don't remember. anyway, first guess was 'curd'. second was wrong, too (I forget). my memory is clearly horrible! it was casein. i would be $500 richer! -
ARCHIVED I Cant Stand Up
lorka150 replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
perhaps it was just a weird reaction - i literally drink one Mug a day... it's my favourite root beer, and i have never had a problem with it. -

ARCHIVED Need A Substitute For Cheese
lorka150 replied to ArtGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
most of them are based on nutritional yeast - some with cashews, agar agar for texture. they also have cheese recipes in it (not just cheese itself), but meaning soups, stews, casseroles, et cetera. it ranges from fake block cheese to cream cheese to nacho cheese to cheeze whiz. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free For Dummies
lorka150 replied to swittenauer's topic in Publications & Publicity
I have three books: Dangerous Grains, Gluten Free for Dummies, and Wheat Free Worry Free. I feel as though they are all excellent. I bought gluten-free for Dummies for my father, who doesn't understand much until he reads it, and I wanted something simple and updated for him. I think they're all great. -

ARCHIVED Symptoms Changing With Diet Change?
lorka150 replied to jnclelland's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
i found that after diagnosis, i got extremely sensitive. i loved spicy foods, and could no longer even use black pepper for awhile. vinegar even bothered me (too acidic). i lived on a diet of about nine foods for six months. -

mini skittles (or little skittles, not too sure what they are called) are NOT gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Need A Substitute For Cheese
lorka150 replied to ArtGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The book I mentioned, the Uncheese Cookbook, has many things that 'melt' perfectly and work well in casseroles. Pending the recipe, you might be able to go cheeseless, add some nutritional yeast, and go from there. -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Changing With Diet Change?
lorka150 replied to jnclelland's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
hi jeanne... i feel like i'm stalking you. i am not sure if the 'diet' is changing your reaction, but i wanted to say that over time, my symptoms have differed from one reaction to the next. some are constant, some are new. it IS possible that since you have consumed so much less gluten, that your bod is more sensitive, thus triggering the cross contam... -
ARCHIVED I Cant Stand Up
lorka150 replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
lister - perhaps if you focus on whole, natural foods for awhile, your body might readily adjust. you might be getting cross contaminated without knowing it (from prepackaged goods). -

ARCHIVED Appetite Stimulant
lorka150 replied to BeckyW's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Becky, When I got extremely ill, I lost 60lbs quite rapidly, and was literally about to die unless I didn't gain weight. Whilst I did not have an appetitite stimulant, a lot of people recommended me Ensure (very high calorie, used to gain weight), but I couldn't use it because I am casein free. However, I focused ANY sort of appetite on high calorie foods... -
ARCHIVED In Need Of A gluten-free Laxative
lorka150 replied to sparkles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
scrunt, i also use a dairy-free one. it's bio-k, in case it is the same. i love it, and it has helped me tremendously (in all aspects). -

ARCHIVED Carob
lorka150 replied to tammy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am casein free also, and use Chetfield's Carob Powder for all of my baking (I am allergic to cocoa), as well as hot carob drink and mochas. -
ARCHIVED So What Do You Do When Products "may Contain Traces" Of Wheat?
lorka150 replied to mamatide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Butterball turkey dogs are available in Canada, and those are gluten-free. I've never tried them, as I do not like hot dogs, but they might be close. Open Original Shared Link I looked them up for you, and there is no soy in them. -
ARCHIVED Bobs Red Mill
lorka150 replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
matilda - have you tried the kasha (as opposed to buckwheat flakes)? those are the only ones my mom will eat. -
ARCHIVED Need Assistance For My Daughter
lorka150 replied to karenmahoney's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with eKatherine. When I got really ill, I quit my job at a market/bakery because I was ingesting like crazy. I kept getting 'sicker' and quit all jobs, and found one online where I make my own hours. It really has helped, in that sense. -
ARCHIVED What Do You Use To Replace Dairy?
lorka150 replied to AndreaB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
AndreaB- Just so you know, I got mine from ebay for very cheap (I think about $5!). If you want to seek that out -
ARCHIVED Night Terrors/fear/paraoid
lorka150 replied to tiffjake's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
that was like when i was first diagnosed, and i started reading symptoms, and couldn't believe the things traced back (like canker sores when i was a kid, constantly... triggered by mono... et cetera). it really blows your mind! -
ARCHIVED Bobs Red Mill
lorka150 replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
