ARCHIVED Is A Gi That Specializes In Celiac Necessary If Not Seeking Diagnosis?
CaliSparrow posted a topic in Doctors
Is seeing a Celiac GI specialist important if I'm not seeking diagnosis? My current doctor has recommended me to a new GI doc. I told her I didn't want a doctor who wasn't up on Celiac and she told me he was a good doctor. Nine years ago, I had an adenoma polyp removed and that GI doctor was "blown away" that I had that at my age. The only reason I had... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Or Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity?

Thanks for that. I just read about the FODMAPS connection last night but not on a medical website. That is good to know! -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Or Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity?
CaliSparrow replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I do but I'm pretty sure I was hoping that wasn't the case and sought to find info that countered it. I guess that doesn't work... that's depressing. She is very active in life and believes confirmation bias & planting that seed can cause dis-ease ---> disease. Oh well. If there's an opening in the conversation at some point, I'll slide it in,... -

ARCHIVED Genetic Factors And Triggers
CaliSparrow replied to NoGlutenCooties's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What I'd like to know is if you can RULE OUT Celiac with the gene test. I was interested in having this done but someone said it was more complicated than that and you can't rule it out simply because you don't have the genes. Also - I read an article where Dr. Fasano said he was beginning to believe that Celiac is moving towards becoming an environmental... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Or Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity?
CaliSparrow replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
p.s. And what about the articles that say NCGS can lead to autoimmune conditions? Wouldn't that make eating any gluten at all a risky proposition for someone with NCGS? -
ARCHIVED Can You Be 'only' Gluten Sensitive But Still Have Anemia?
CaliSparrow replied to ClevelandRocks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wish there was a more definitive answer on if NCGS can cause the same vitamin deficiencies as Celiac. I have wondered about this myself. Seems like there are a lot of contradictions out there and conclusions about the two keep changing. Did you have a problem when you began eating gluten again? If I was eating gluten, I'd get tested. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Or Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity?
CaliSparrow replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
At this point, I've not yet read something that was inclusive of everyone. There are too many variables. Most articles I've read discuss the impossibility of differentiating between the two by symptoms alone. My husband also reacts but it's a three-day affair that doesn't bowl him over like it does me. He is not as sensitive but he couldn't just eat limited... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Or Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity?
CaliSparrow posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I thought this part of the study was interesting. It brings to light how some people can go gluten-free except for their beer and they still feel better. I'd like to read more studies on Celiac vs NCGS. "Whereas celiac disease subjects should maintain a lifelong, strict GFD and limit their exposure to gluten to foods containing less than 20 parts per... -

ARCHIVED Just Want To Be Able To Eat Out Like A "normal" Person!

Yeah, I know we're special (ha ha) & wouldn't wish this on anyone but I'm not going to argue someone out of going in the direction of my utopian dream! I'm still a romantic at heart (and horribly selfish) and will continue to click my ruby red slippers- 25 replies

ARCHIVED Just Want To Be Able To Eat Out Like A "normal" Person!
CaliSparrow replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My husband says that all the time and thanks me for "not being normal" because he feels so much better now! The people I just spent time with were saying things like, "You're so lucky", "You are really doing it right", "I've given up gluten partially but am too lazy to go 100%" and I was asked for advice or was a sounding board for other's ills. ARCHIVED Reintroduced Foods And Still Intolerant?
CaliSparrow posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I do have leaky gut and tested intolerant to 55+ foods. About six weeks ago, I decided to start reintroducing a few. I hadn't had egg yolks or bananas in five months and they were a no go. I hadn't had dairy in over a year and OUCH! It is WORSE than before! Does this mean I should scratch these off the list forever? I have stopped reintroducing foods... -
ARCHIVED Histamine Intolerance - Please Read!
CaliSparrow replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My diet is so limited but I'm too tired to do anything about it. I just figured there will come a day when I can't eat tilapia, egg whites and sardines anymore . Can a dietician or nutritionist help with the diet? I had a nutritionist tell me on the front end that variety is important but the first step is to just get food in me at short intervals (she... -

I'm sorry . I've learned more about how I operate socially than I ever wanted to know in dealing with this. It's not a bad thing to care about others and not want to be the hitch in the giddy up. In fact, it's nice, however, I discovered I had to erect new boundaries. I've been glutened a few times because I didn't want to rock the boat. My boat then... -

ARCHIVED Just Want To Be Able To Eat Out Like A "normal" Person!
CaliSparrow replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes! I was glutened a lot eating out and someone here said they didn't eat out at all year one. I wish I had known that earlier. It's the pits. My body also developed multiple intolerances and I stopped eating out except for one restaurant that has been very reliable (for special occasions) and I still feel better preparing my own food. I consider eating...- 25 replies

ARCHIVED Fragrance-Less
CaliSparrow replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ha ha so true! I put together aromatherapy kits as Christmas presents one year and spritzed a concoction with orange oil on my face. It just about knocked me down and put me in another orbit. After recovering, I looked it up in my book and found out it can have a hypnotic effect. Of course, I was not gluten-free at the time so there's no telling how my... -
Thanks Enthusiast. You definitely picked up on my angst. It felt like I was walking into a burning building to leave. It ended up being a good trip and my mom was smiling yesterday as she didn't expect me back until tomorrow. The trip did me some good and now I can focus on her. It was scary to leave.

ARCHIVED Why Do I Have Symptoms From Activity?
CaliSparrow replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Everyone has made some very good points. Having several viewpoints to consider is quite helpful. We are made up of a set of systems and having sensitivities can make it rather tricky. I put doctors on a different level than regular folks. They spend many years learning and honing their craft. If you are sick, your lab numbers show multiple deficiencies... -
