  1. Ravenwood--

Please don't feel bad or consider leaving the forum over this--it sounds like while Scott was tweaking some things on the board, somehow, the warning bar became visable to each (or some) member(s).

This bar is generally only visable to the moderators--all members have one, including the mods. Having a 0% means, as Rachel said, that you have not ever been warned. Mine reads the same :)

If a member is warned, they always are contacted and told why.

There was a persistant spammer on the board all day yesterday, and the usual method used to ban him/her didn't work, so I'm sure that in an attempt to correct this, the warning bars were made visable in some cases.

Please know that you were never singled out and that virtually nothing changed regarding your profile--you are a valued member of this forum :D

    YEAH.....what she said :D

  2. When I log on today I found a warn icon next to my name and a zero percent with boxes. What the devil is this? I haven't seen it before and if I posted something someone didn't like why wasn't I PM'd or contacted about it?

Scott has been "tweaking" for site a bit. A warning would not have been issued without you being told about, but you're not likely to recieve one. I see nothing unusual about your post page. Is it still a problem?

  3. www.triumphdining.com

I have an older version and I have used it quite frequently....a wise choice.

Can you have it delivered to a US Contact? or Hotel? I have not seen it in bookstores, but perhaps it can be ordered for you.

Here is a listing for some California contacts. They can advise.

  4. I recently had a negative biopsy, yet a positive bloodtest. The whole thing has been such a mess. I have so many of the symptoms, I'm so positive I have celiacs. I have spoken to friends of mine with the condition as well and they too are convinced.

I'm so tired of messing around with this doctor - tired of trying different diets, excluding and including exessive amounts of certain foods. I think I'm going to have a second opinion, and especially try to eliminate gluten out of my diet for a few months.

Glad to hear that others have had negative biopsies too. Not that I like to have celiacs, but I would really like to pin down the reason for my pain.

So glad to have found these boards!

    Gillian

    Hi Gillian,

Welcome to the Board! Since you had a positive blood test, you DO have Celiac. As you may know, a biopsy can be hit or miss. But, the blood test does not have any false positives, only false negatives.

    So welcome to the club!

  5. Laura (happygirl) posted the most current information. Holy Cow Janet! Who let you out of Sillyville? :o:lol:

Here is Unilevels response today and my reply:

With all due respect, you did not answer my question. I shall ask again.

What is the POLICY of Unilever regarding listing all forms of gluten on their

    ingredient list on your products.

If a product contains malt, is it the POLICY of Unilever to disclose that as

    an ingredient.

    Lisa

    >

  6. Agreed. This is a disappointing response. Sometime, the response is determined by how you ask the question and how experienced the customer service rep is. I still think that we are not getting the correct response from Unilever. I think a mass inquiry is required here. I'm on a mission.

I wrote to them last week as well with no response. I wrote today requesting their policy regarding full disclosure of gluten on their ingredient listing. I would encourage others to do the same. A non-response is not acceptable.

  7. I don't think you should share your opinions on Celiac concidering you do not have it and are not interested in knowing if you do.Go ahead and eat gluten free if that floats your boat...but do not post on this website! it is for people who are sick, not ones who choose to eat gluten free! We do not have a choice.Maybe you could go join an Austism forum......

    a gluten free lifestyle!

    Megra,

We don't treat people here as rudely as you have. Your post is a clear violation of Board Rules. I would strongly suggest that you review them.

All questions get answers here, no matter what you think of them.

Now back to the original post. Eric_C mentioned that his symptoms were relieved by taking Alegra. Perhaps, you (Eric) may have an allergy to gluten or wheat and not Celiac or a gluten intolerance.

To date, the only known *Cure* for Celiac is a total gluten free diet.

  8. Hi Sherry,

    Great advise aleady.

I just wanted to add, that it's so very difficult to learn all there is to know about foods and labeling. Gluten is a tricky sucker and it hides in the most obscure places. Mistakes can be frequent until you have a strong several months behind you. We have all been there. ;)

Don't forget to check your shampoo, lipsticks, meds, vitamins. Scratched only pots and pans can hide old gluten. Chopping blocks and toasters should be replaced and shared cooking equipment needs a careful review.

Always remember that "wheat free" does not mean "gluten free". Wheat must be listed on the ingredient listing, but barley, malt and rye can hide in "natural flavor" or "spices".

Hanging out here, was my lifeline. Glad to have you.

  9. I googled Dr. Crowe, and I recommend you do, too. Summary of her presentation to the Charlottesvilli Celiac Support Group can be found here:

If I were you, I'd call them back first thing in the morning and schedule with her PA (physician's assistant) at the next available opening. The PA should be able to take your history and get the ball rolling with all the necessary lab work you will need to begin diagnosis. If you need to see Dr. Crowe, they will be able to arrange that, probably sooner if your labs come back strong for celiac.

From what is on the internet, she looks like a gem. Please let us know about your decision and your experience with her.

Great advise! :) Get the lab work started.

  10. A colonoscopy is where you would check for issues such as Crohn's, in the large instestines. Any time that you have digestive issues, it would be wise to have this proceedure.

An endoscopy is an examination of the small intestines. A biopsy can be taken in the small intestines to check for Celiac Disease.

Celiac is different from a gluten intolerance or an allergy.

What type of blood test did you have? Do you have the results?

  11. My wife and I took a short cruise for our anniversary about 2 months back.

While there the ship served me food with bread crumbs in it even though they knew I had an allergy and I confirmed it ahead of time.

Well I got sick, almost immediately. After reporting it to the people on the ship I went to see their doctor. Not much to do but figured best to have it on record as actually happening.

The doctor wanted to give me a shot but I wasn't too crazy about that, an anti-histamine. So she suggested I take Alegra to curb the symptoms.

While I was still sick that evening by next morning when they served us breakfast I was fine, had a bit of irritation but not the week long issues I normally have.

Again last week I had flour and have been sick for nearly a week. I finally decided to take some Alegra and within a day everything subsided.

Anyone else been prescribed this or tried it?

This is interesting. Please refresh me, have your been diagnosed as having Celiac, gluten intolerant or gluten allergy? There is still a lot to be studied.

  12. I got this new lotion as a gift and It has oats in it. If I use it, will it do damage to my intestines? Any advise I can get would be great. :(

Oats in general should not bother Celiacs. But, due to the processing of oats, they often come into contact with contamination with wheat, barley or rye, by farm equipment, processing and shipping.

The risk of being glutens by oats in lotion would be slim (in my opinion). I do not buy lotions with oats, just because I want to avoid any additional complications. But it would be wise not to get it in or around you mouth.

    Others may have different experiences.

  13. Hi guys!

Im in my second week of being gluten free and have already had some set-backs! :-(

I noticed in the shower this morning that both my shampoo and conditioner contain a whole bunch of different 'wheat' ingredients. One ingredient is even listed as 'Wheat Protein'.

Should I be buying new shampoo and conditioner?

I went and checked all mother other cosmetics and I think they're ok....Im not sure about my body lotion though, it has a lot of 'flower' ingredients like: Sunflower extract and Shea seed etc.

    What do you think?

    Will my toothpaste be ok?

Also, on a different note...what are the chances of getting contaminated from kissing my boyfriend?

eg: Would I be be more likely to get contaminated if I kissed him while he was drinking a beer?

Im new to the diet and would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks

    Wilem

If you are just starting the diet, I would certainly recommend that you have gluten free shampoo and conditioner. It just crosses off one type of contaimination. Dove products are gluten free. Toothpaste must be gluten free, most are but always check.

And, the beer and boyfriends can be another way to get glutened. You might want to hold off until he has a change to brush his teeth before a good smooch.

  14. MommaGoose, I visited Shanghai last month and had a great time. I posted about grocery stores and restaurants Open Original Shared Link and maybe it'll help you out.

    Hey Janet,

Thank you for that information. My brother lives in Shanghai and has invited me/us to visit. I guess I just have to get the nerve up to traveling half way around the world, or I can play the martyr and send my daughters. ;) But, then again, it would be a shame to pass up an opportunity of a lifetime.

I will copy your infomation and muster some confidence.

(I do have the dining cards, which will be helpful)
