  1. Welcome to the Board!

Celiac has over 200 symptom and you and your son seem to have many of them.

There is a specific blood panel for Celiac which consist of five tests. It is also important to remain on gluten until your testing is over. Any other testing, other than an endoscopy exam will not diagnose Celiac.

There is a great deal of information on Celiac here.

  2. That is a SUPER list for newbies. It gives them a direction to go and "hope" that turkey day isn't ruined!! Thanks for posting it for everyone!!

    -Jessica

Yes, the holidays don't have to be daunting. I'm glad to pass that information on.

For those who are not bakers, Philly Cream Cheese has seasonal "Cheese Cake" in a Tub near the refrigerator section at your grocery store. It is ready to go and gluten free. It's great with some Cool Whip and Cinnamon sprinkled on top....less time in the kitchen and more with family. :)

  3. Thank you everyone, you folks are all very helpful . I am happy to say that it seems to have cleared up on it's own. It might have just been a short term fluke  One thing is for sure though, after a month of being gluten-free I am starting to get my focus back in a way that I was not expecting. I have been having some pretty strong junk food cravings and have been eating a box of the "Enjoy life" cookies every day to help get me through. Once again, thank you all ... you have been very helpful.

...........and you've gotten some unsolicited "technical" advice to inmprove your love life, for free!

  4. Mary, as you know. you are in a great place to learn about gluten free living.

Hidden Valley Original Ranch is gluten free and what better ranch dressing to have! My current favorite is Vann's Gluten Free Waffles. I eat them every morning toasted with melted peanut butter and orange marmalade.....ohhhh so good, and very children friendly for the whole family.

I would certainly start Kara off diary light. It is not necessarily about another intolerance, but rather the villi, which are damaged cannot deal with absorbing dairy until they are healed.

After healing can take place, dairy can be often re-introduced successfully. AND, do remember that children heal quicker than adults.

There are many moms here who have children with celiac and they are always so willing to share. You're in good hands. :)

  5. PLEASE I HAVE NEVER HEARD THE TERMS "WBRO" AND "BRO" WHAT ARE THEY PLEASE? AND WOULD YOU EAT THIS PRODUCT?? IF IT DID NOT LIST ANY OF THE THINGS THAT WE CAN NOT HAVE??

    THANKS AGAIN..

    LYNN

PS= MY DAUGHTER IS DYING FOR NEW SNACKS AND THIS WAS AT WHOLE FOODS..

    Lynn -

WBRO - Wheat, Barley, Rye, Oats and BRO - Barley, Rye, Oats

If the product does not list any wheat, barley, rye, or oats it should be gluten free. (although wheat is the only one required by law to be listed).

    Sounds good go :)

I just received the following e-mail from Owen's Sausage......

I know some celiac's are also sensitive to MSG as well, but I have never heard of MSG giving off a gluten by-product........is this true? does anybody know? Can MSG affect celiac's just like gluten?

Any info will be appreciated. Thanks,

Our parent company, Bob Evans Farms does not have us on a gluten free list for several reasons. Our breakfast sausage, has a small amount of MSG in it and sometimes during the MSG process, it produces a gluten by product. Our regular, mild, hot & sage sausage and our packaged ham does not have any wheat, rye, barley or oats in it.

Since people with Celiac Disease have flare ups from different things,so we can't honestly say that our products are gluten free. I have talked with many people who has numerous people in their family with this condition and they all eat our sausage with no problems.

I hope this has answered your question.

THIS IS FROM A 2005 POST FROM THIS SITE FOUND ON GOOGLE. The MSG statement is curious to me. But, this is before the labeling laws were in effect.

It would be my assumption that they would be safe to eat. Not reading the lable, I can't confirm it. I have not seen too many sausages with gluten in it.

  7. Hey Ali,

Yes, it is often that people discover that dairy is hard for them as well as gluten free. But, after you are healed for a while, it's possible to add dairy back in your diet without issues. (it's healing and villi issues).

I do not have a problem with caramel color but I do know that other here do. Perhaps it may be similar to dairy. I don't know about the caramel color/dairy connection. The longer you are healed the easier it is to consume these things that are giving you problems now.

  8. Does anyone know of any gluten-free frozen foods? Preferably popular brands (found in grocery store)? I need some quick single serve meals for when I feel like giving in and eating normal food. I have 5 kids and I am the only one trying the gluten free diet so I still cook non gluten-free for them. I try to eat before I cook so I won't be tempted but sometimes I don't have a lot of time. I have been eating alot of chili and rice cakes, but getting kinda tired of um. I am not a very good "from scratch cook". I never realized I was such a picky eater until I tried going gluten-free but I only ate a few things and of course I can't eat any of them now.

I really appreciate this forum. I don't know how anyone ever did this without the support of the internet! I feel like I have a billion questions!

You get four stars in my book **** for cooking for your family gluten meals. The transition to gluten free is so easy, it's hard to imagine.

I would hate it that you are depriving yourself good quality meals while you prepare dinner for your family. There are many recipes on this site that are easy and quick to prepare. Most are naturally gluten free. Check out the baking-recipe section.

Amy's makes some gluten free frozen entrees that are fairly good.
