  1. LOL Thanks, I actually understood your post but I was confused by Lisas reply to my post I think being on here when I am dead tired could be a factor in this case. lol I didn't read anything into her comment I just didn't understand anything in her comment! LOL Mommy brain and lack of sleep I guess. ;)

My apology for any confusion. :) I often confuse myself ;)

  2. my doctor informed me 2 days ago that my blood test and endoscopy result was very suggestive that i have celiac sprue. i asked if there's another way to confirm it and he said those 2 are the only ways.

obviously i've only lived this condition for 2 days (or maybe for many many years of my life without knowing it) so i'm wondering if anyone could share any doctors' opinions and/or results?

any suggestions and advices are welcome and appreciated.

    thank you!

    Welcome reni!

This is where I would normally say "Welcome to the Club!", but I sense your reservation on becoming a member. :P That's ok though...many of us have walked in your shoes.

In conjunction of the positive Celiac Blood Panel and a confirmation with your endoscopy exam, a positive dietary response can be another piece of the puzzle (Although either one of the two test you have already had, is a diagnosis of Celiac.

Start a simple diet for a few weeks and you may be surprised how elementary it can be to reclaim your life, without drugs or surgery.

If you need assistance, we can walk you though the next few weeks. That's what we're about.

AND, ummm.... Welcome to the Club! :D

PS - Post your test result and they can be interpreted here.

  3. Very interesting, my dad is an alcholic or should I say recovering alcholic I never dreamed he could do it. my brother and my son both have celiac and I think my dad is contemplating getting checked too he says he has always had similar issues as my son when he was younger. We are all getting checked it would be interesting if my mom or dad have it.

Alcoholic dependency can be a serious factor. And it can be misdiagnosed as consistent with Celiac Disease. Both can destroy the villi. Both can develop full malnutrition.

It's easy to confuse both. The advanced level of both would be similar. Advanced testing would be recommended.

  4. The Utz chips look great and what an allergy friendly company! It looks like they are mostly on the east coast. Too bad they are no where to be found in my area.

I have been eating the plain Lays Stax for 2 years before I tried these Lays Classic chips today and never had a problem with them. They are made on dedicated equipment in a whole other country. Mexico

Back to Stax for me. Live and learn I guess. Celiac makes you want to stick with tried and true brands and never veer from them.

Well then, live a little....ALL flavored STAX are gluten free. Branch out for the BBQ! :P

  5. I just want to add that many of us have a wide spectrum of sensitivity. Some people can be ill from a product that contains no gluten ingredients (due to cross contact), whereas some have eaten the same product for years without issues.

Many times its trial and error and individualized. It doesn't necessarily mean that a particular product is not safe for others :)

  6. The term "gluten free" is not yet a legal standard in the US. All labeling gluten free labeling is voluntary. Most companies do not test, to claim a "gluten free" status, or at least under the 20ppm suggested as a standard.

What I have seen and most likely will see more of in the future is companies claiming "no gluten ingredients". That will relieve them of any cross contamination claims, nor the obligation to test.

It's not perfect, BUT...WE'VE COME A LOOONG WAY BABY! B)

  7. One of the buyers of frozen produce heard about my "run in" with sweet potato fries and we had quite a discussion. He told me that many of his potato manufacturers "dust" the finished fries with a medley of flour to get them to fry up better in oil. It may only be a minuscule amount, but it's enough to send us Celiacs to the bathroom and then into bed.

Should this be fact, "those" manufacturers are in serious violation of the law! ALL wheat must be listed an ingredient or on an allergen statement, by law. I would like to see some documentation of this. Are there manufacturers that we can contact?

Either this is "hear-say" with out actual fact, or these "manufactures" need to meet with the FDA!

  8. Hi,

I'm new to this forum. My 4yo was just recently diagnosed with celiacs disease. Well, kind of. She is "just barely" above the markers for normal. Her biopsy showed "mild symptoms consistent with celiac's disease". Our doctor told us that we could wait 6 months and have her blood tested again to confirm and use this time to learn.

I'm wondering about kitchen items and what I will need to get rid of or replace.

I've heard stoneware, cutting boards and toaster. Are there other things? Does anyone know if a grain mill can be cleaned and used?

I appreciate any help. I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post on, but hope so.

    Blessings

    Leslie

    Welcome Leslie:

I would have a special shelf in your pantry for your 4 year old. Snacks, Cereal and treat that are specific to your 4 year old.

I have a shelf in our toaster oven that is only mine, where I toast my bread and waffles. But a $10.00 toaster is easily purchased. Cleaning cook ware well should not be a concern, as long as they are not all scratched - in that case, gluten free or not, they should be replaced.

I don't think your grain mill would be an option.

As this may be considered genetic, as parents would consider testing as well, if there have been issues.;)

  9. I have just been diagnosed with this disease, and i must say from all the diffrent posts, WOW. My symptons are very minor compared to some of these folks on here. I thought i just had IBS, but my doc had some blood tests done and it then showed up. Went shopping at Trader Joe's, very nice store, had a little hard time finding glutose free food, but managed through it all, man. Hey is cheese, mayo glutose free??? Bought many rice, potatoe, and corn meal type products, oh and trying this soy milk or rice milk that is Gluten-Free, hope it tastes good, lol.

    Hey Bear and Welcome!!!

You have found a great place for great information.

I would begin your diet with fresh fruits, fresh veggies, meats, eggs, fish, rice and potato.

Milk is gluten free, but you might want to wait a couple of weeks before you try it again. And I would not try the Rice Milk or Rice Dream.

Eat simply for a few weeks.

Glucose should not be a concern, unless you have a problem with sugar and diabetes. Gluten is what most of us need to be aware of with Celiac or a Gluten Intolerance. I know, it's very confusing.....

Generally, Block cheese, mayo and dairy are gluten free.

*And please pass this information on to your Doctor. :D

Before an endoscopy exam, she should run the FULL Celiac Panel, and learn how to interpret the results. And you should continue to eat a full gluten diet, if you are able.

    EDIT:

Above is additional and more current information for you to print out and take with you to your doctor.

    Good luck!

  11. Hi Jonny and Welcome!

You have a strong family history and positive blood work. That's more than adequate for a diagnosis....in addition to positive dietary results.

I personally feel it's wise, for those of us with intestinal issues for many years to have, at the least a baseline endoscopy exam. It also can rule out more severe issues. But, it's not necessary for further support of a diagnosis.

    Welcome to the Club! :D

  12. Believe it or not, digestive issues are not the most common symptoms of Celiac. Before you get too far into the gluten free diet, I would encourage you to get a full Celiac Blood Panel.

If you choose not to be tested, you can begin the diet. But only full compliance will determine if you have Celiac or a gluten intolerance, by a slow recovery of your symptoms.

If, in fact, you do have Celiac Disease, your healing time will be determined by the amount of damage in your small intestines.

You also have the option of going "clean"..... as in meats, fish, rice and potatoes, fresh veggies and fruit, for a month or so. By adding one suspect at a time, you may determine what is causing your issues.

  13. I thought I saw on here one time a long time ago about tacos at Taco time were save to eat. Does any one have any info. on this one for me?

    Thank you,

    Forress
