ARCHIVED Gluten Free Vs No Wheat Containing Ingredients?
Lisa replied to GFathlete's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
1) Yes, wheat in the US is one of the allergens that must be listed by law. The other glutens, barley, malt and malt are not required to be listed. Sometimes it's a judgment call or a call to the manufacturer. Barley, rye and malt are not used too much in the US, but you have to judge you product ( ie. hot chocolate mix might have malt). 2)Labeling... -
ARCHIVED What's The Best And Worst About Being Super-Sensitive?
Lisa replied to T.H.'s topic in Super Sensitive People
I have often read here that some of our more hyper-sensitive members have other food intolerances. Under those circumstances, I would find it very difficult to dine out. I'm certain, that it's very frustrating, aside from any gluten issues. I live in a small town and don't dine out for the food, but for the socialization. I eat cleanly (steamed shrimp... -

ARCHIVED Salad Dressing Substitute

Kraft and Newman's will clearly list all forms of gluten. If I recall, all Newman's are gluten free except the Family Italian and Low Fat Ginger, but please verify on the label. -
ARCHIVED First Christmas As A Celiac
Lisa replied to eborzecki's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree, you should explain to your family. We had a Polish exchange student and we shared the same communion with our friends. It's a lovely tradition. And bring Pamela's Chocolate cake (two mixes make an impressive cake) and everyone will love it, and won't even know it's gluten free. -

With certainty, a point could be made without criticism. I don't find it useful in the least. -

Yes, you have been give good advise to mull over. Choose what you wish and disregard the other. I have a very dear friend (much aware of my dietary issues) who has a very busy career and she sends me the same container of very expensive cookies every year. I thank her for her thought and tell her how much my family will enjoy them. -
Oh yes, not very polite.

ARCHIVED Bothwell Cheeses
Lisa replied to JillianLindsay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not familiar with Bothwell cheeses, sorry. I would assume that they should be labeled for ingredients. -
I'm not sure you could have prevented an accident of that kind, nor could you recreate it. I, personally, don't want to be a complaining customer and I'm especially grateful that I can dine in a restaurant that offers a gluten free opportunities. Every time we eat out without full control, we have to accept the risk and not hold the establishment...

Sorry that you are so young and feeling so poorly. Have you been officially tested and diagnosed for Celiac Disease? I ask, because going gluten free will render the official testing inaccurate if you are gluten free, should you decide to take the full Celiac Panel Test.

ARCHIVED Why Gluten-Free Diets Are Not Welcome Chez Martha Stewart
Lisa replied to sa1937's topic in Publications & Publicity
Oooh! Several years ago her daughter, Alexis was lashing the gluten free diet. Martha Stewart is not fan in this house and I will NOT buy her products. -
My Panera, is small and most likely as many, only bake pre-prepared dough. That would lessen the exposure. But, I am in no means referring to it being safe for people with Celiac. I am only stating that many times it has worked for me, successfully. Yes, lucky

Pizza is not to be missed, while adjusting to the diet for a lifetime. Velveeta and Salsa can be of some comfort, if nothing less than knowing it's not the end of the world
-
I eat there frequently. It's a pretty high risk for cross contact, but I find the staff wonderfull to work with and they have no problems what-so-ever if something has to be redone, with a smile and no questions asked. And I accept the risk. Great news on the interview!
