  1. Here is my two cents: I love Trader Joe's. Heck, I have been going shopping there for over 25 years. But, I have to say that we have been glutened by them more than once. Because they private label most of their products, it is hard to verify that they are really gluten free. Okay, so no gluten ingredients are used but how is the product manufactured...
  2. Get a new doctor if he is not willing to work with you. Seriously! Doctors have been disputed what the acceptable TSH range should be for years. Most now, would agree that a 1 to 3 range is best. Even better is to base the replacement requirements on how the patient feels without going hyper! Your TSH mostly likely went down when you went gluten...
  3. Great catch, Bartie!
  4. After my recent glutening, I have been getting sick. Not celiac sick, but allergy- type symptoms (stuffy nose, vomiting, severe ab pain that last for 6 to 8 hours). I looked into a histamine intolerance and it seems to fit (my new symptom is a itchy rash on arms, legs and abdomen that is not DH) but it is that glass filling up thing. How much is too...
  5. I am sorry that you lost your insurance (been there and done that). So, you had a positive blood test in July. You saw the GI, but without insurance you can not do the endoscopy. You already went gluten-free, if I recall. Consider staying gluten-free until you can do a gluten challenge when you are not in school and have insurance. You may have to...
  6. So, you have celiac disease and have been gluten free since March 2015. To be honest, 8 months is is still pretty early in the game. Healing can take a long time (months to years) for those with celiac. It all depends on the amount of intestinal damage, how sick you were before you went gluten free, the type of damage incurred (joints, neurological), your...
  7. Ugh! You really need some advice from an Canadian resident! NVSMOM is terrific and she should be on soon. Sorry my response (format and typing) is messed up, but the new forum has had its update launch issues and I do not have time to figure it out! How much is the consult? Because those are the needed tests. I have not clue as to what the other walk...
  8. Squirmingitch asked a good question. Which celiac tests did you have? If it were just the SCREENING TTG IgA, along with testing you for an IgA deficiency (which would make the TTG IgA test invalid), your doctor should order the rest of the celiac panel. Especially since you have biopsy resutls that could be from celiac disease. I say this because I tested...
  9. Try a bandaid approach while you are waiting for test results. Maybe some Gas-EX? Or...get out and take a walk. Moving around helps keep your mind off things and keep things moving through your intestines.Walking might not be your thing, but you what I am saying. Try not to neglect your studies. Take baby steps. Study. walk. Study. Walk. You do not...
  10. Based on the lab results you posted, it looks like she does NOT have celiac disease. The TTG and the DGP were both under the range and her IGA deficiency test was normal making the other two tests valid. But...I am with you. I think she might not have had enough gluten in her system. The standard (or at least what the University of Chicago recommends...
  11. The first and third tests are specific for celiac disease. They appear to be negative, but I can not tell for sure without the lab ranges (lab ranges vary). The second test is to see if you are IgA deficient which would impact the results of the tests. Again, it appears that you are not deficient (no ranges), so tests 1and 3 would be valid. What are your...
  12. What about topical (cream or patches)? I have used both for hormone replacement therapy. Are there compounding pharmacies where you live? They can make the topical or a custom oral to help you avoid corn or gluten. I do not know if these are effective for PCOS. You would have to do the research, but I do not see why not.
  13. Wow a 7 is so low. I could barely function when I was that anemic. It took me about 3 or 4 months to hit my normal level hemoglobin level (I also have Thalassemmia another anemia). I hear that kids tend to heal fast, but that is very fast! He must now be able to absorb the iron in his formula. I glad things are improving for him!
  14. Hang in there! It is tough going gluten free and having to modify your diet so drastically. We have all been there or are still struggling. The dairy just might come back. It did for me (most of it). But prior to that I used a lot of soy and had a successful pregnancy. I was on soy for most of my life. I also have Hashimoto's and I do not think it...
  15. Well, it is the second day of rain sprinkles here in California. It finally feels like Fall even though I am still wearing shorts and flip flops! I am happy not to be running the air conditioner. Alas, it will not last. Temperatures to hit 100 degrees by the weekend. I am making chili and salad for tonight's dinner to celebrate the rain and the hint...
  16. After my last glutening in July, I have not even gone out to dinner. My husband will go, but I am still too afraid. It is just not worth being ill for two months and longer! I felt like I started all over (my GI said I did with such elevated DGP results!) Even the best of restaurants will make mistakes. It is just a chance that I am not willing to risk...
  17. Glad you are feeling better!
  18. Get a new Internist? This might be what is going on. My provider and my health insurance are one group. We are self-employed and made the switch two years ago. Our insurance provider got great reviews by Consumer Reports and other reporting agencies, plus, referrals from family and friends. Is this good? I am not so sure. But we can always switch...
  19. Thanks! Whew! No Cherrios for us! I was holding out because of so many conflicting reports. But that is not true. I do not eat any grains because I am a diabetic and grains spike my blood sugar. So, no cereal for me. Hubby, who is gluten-free, can not have cereal because he is on a Low Carb High Fat diet to improve his weight and cholesterol levels...
  20. Glad you saw results so soon, but most of us take weeks, months to a few years to resolve all symptoms. Keep eating gluten as you really want to get a definitive answer to your health issues. You don't have to go crazy. A slice of bread or two (or equivalent per day) is recommended by the University of Chicago. They have a great celiac website and are...
  21. Yep, a report on this was released by Consumer Reports a year or so ago. Rice can contain arsenic but apples do too! Big report on apple juice as well. Moderation is key. Try to buy rice grown in California. It has less arsenic compared to the Southern U.S. I am not sure about overseas. I am sure their soil is pretty polluted too. Again, eat in...
  22. Welcome! First, let's make sure you had standard celiac blood tests and these include: Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTg) IgDeamindated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgGEMA IgATotal serum IgA and IgG (control tests)AGA IgA and AGA IgG -- older less reliable tests largely replaced by the DGP testsFinally, Endoscopic biopsy -- 6 samplesI am...
  23. Celiac disease can mess with your gallbladder. Got a bellyache? My relatives would wink and say, "it is the family curse. It is her gallbladder!" So, that is a possibly too. Gallbladders can improve (just like liver issues) on a gluten free diet if you have celiac disease. So, just wait for the blood results. Keep consuming gluten until the GI has...
  24. I use white vinegar. It is distilled and is safe!
  25. To put your mind at ease, ask your dentist to provide written information about ingrediants, material safety data sheets, contact information from the manufacturer so that you can call. When I was getting my teeth cleaned and I was a newbie, my dentist showed me the carton of the cleaning paste they used. I was able to confirm for myself. Made me feel...
