  1. I think you need to do some more research. Start at the University of Chicago's celiac website. The gold standard for diagnosing celiac disease is an celiac antibody blood panel and intestinal biopsies. The genetic test helps rule out celiac disease. I think Karen previously provided the same link.... Open Original Shared Link Here's from the...
  2. I completely understand your frustration. I was glutened in July and I have no clue as to what it was. Well, I do know that it was something that my husband never consumes since he gets gluten reactions. He is my canary! I narrowed it down to a brand of soymilk, a prescription drug or a series of glutenings while on a 10 day vacation. The vacation is...
  3. Time and patience. If anything, getting my celiac disease diagnosis has taught me that much! Other AI issues might develop or they might not. I would just work on staying gluten free. Squirmingitch is right about the oats. Some celiacs do not tolerate them. My advice is to get whole unprocessed foods (as much as possible) and avoid going out to...
  4. Welcome! It does seem that you are between a rock and a hard place! Why the need for a diagnosis now? You have been gluten free for a year. Can you continue to be gluten free? It sounds like you have celiac disease. Your doctor should not have tested you for celiac antibodies when you just had one accidental glutening and possible cross contamination...
  5. Welcome Hank! This thread is pretty old, so I doubt anyone will respond, but I will. I had my Gallbladder out 7 years before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. It was non-functioning and my HIDA showed 0% functionality -- no stones. In fact it was rottening and infected. So, it had to come out. I wonder if a little healing has improved the functionality...
  6. Hang in there! The nurse might not have been able to draw blood because she is lousy at doing it or perhaps you were just dehydrated! That happened to me and ER tried 8 times to stick me! (I had been vomiting for a long time.) Same for a friend who collapsed after a 100 mile bike ride. She was dehydrated. People live with lupus. I have a friend...
  7. Did you get copies of the celiac blood tests results? Were they they same tests run when you were first diagnosed? Here is the complete list: -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -AGA IGA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests largely...
  8. Did he run a celiac antibodies test too? Intestinal damage could be from causes other than celiac disease. Look at this link to the University of Chicago's celiac website: Open Original Shared Link
  9. I am sorry that you are sick! When you said all your blood tests have come back normal, does that include a celiac antibodies? I was glutened two months ago and am still recovering. I had my GI test my celiac antibodies and they were high! I am still trying to determine what glutened me! I am recovering, but in the meantime, I had pain, no matter what...
  10. They have gluten-free camps for kids, but not for adults! I would go! Just the luxury of not worrying about meal preparation! As it is, we love our gluten-free Motorhome. We camp and travel in comfort. My hubby resisted an RV and said it was a money pit, but he admitted that he never gets glutened. He can really enjoy his time off!
  11. Being a celiac can affect your odds of having autoimmune thyroiditis. If you have experiencing symptoms (hypo or hyper) you should get a complete thyroid panel (including antibodies against the thyroid). I had to reduce my thyroid hormone replacement dosage as my intestines healed.
  12. Check the copy of your labs like Karen suggested. Your previous posting stated that your "antibodies were high". I am assuming that you are really having an off day! It will get better. You just need more time. You mentioned having a CBC and a thyroid test. You need to ask your doctor to check your vitamin levels (e.g. Vit. D, B-12, folate, etc...
  13. Welcome! Have you been diagnosed with celiac disease? Vitamin deficiencies are common in those newly diagnosed. I would try to get to the root cause of your indigestion and bloating instead of just medicating. Just my two cents!
  14. Are you sure you received the full celiac disease panel? I know that my provider only offers the screening (TTG IGA and IGA deficency tests). They will only order the full screening if you insist or you have a celiac disease savvy GI doctor. Did they rule outs IBD, Crohn's, SIBO or H Pylori? I would recommend getting copies of all your lab results...
  15. I have not experienced a baby having celiac disease (my kid was 12 when I was diagnosed), nor have I done a lot of research on the subject, but consider keeping him on gluten and eliminating all dairy. If you do not see results within a week or so, then talk to your doctor about when you should do a celiac blood panel. My kid tested negative, but she...
  16. I am sorry that you were diagnosed with celiac disease! As far as being overwhelmed, we have all been there and have survived! It is a lot to process! I am diabetic too (not the only one on this forum). I found that fat is my friend, my cholesterol panel has never been better. My husband and I are both gluten-free and on a LCHF diet. I just eat to...
  17. If he is going to go gluten free, then I would advise looking at our Newbie 101 thread found under "Coping": https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ It discusses cross contamination (yes, you can gluten your hubby by kissing him after consuming a piece of bread or whatever contains gluten) and hidden sources of gluten like medication...
  18. Did you get a complete celiac panel or just the typical screening? Here is the complete panel: -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -AGA IGA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests largely replace by the DGP tests Exactly where and...
  19. Kitty, ask for the complete celiac blood panel: -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -AGA IGA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests largely replace by the DGP tests -endoscopic biopsy - make sure at least 6 samples are taken ...
  20. Slightly off topic, but have your kids been tested -- even if they are asymptomatic? Testing should include all first-degree relatives (parents, siblings, kids). I hope you find your gluten source!
  21. Can not help you with the baking, but can you tolerate fats? I am grain free literally because I am diabetic and grains really spike me. I consume lots of fat and get most of my carbs from veggies and a little fruit. Keeps my weight on and my cholesterol panel has never been better and my blood glucose levels are great. Something to think about. I am...
  22. I second that! You are doing a great job!
  23. Yes, all first-degree relatives should be tested. That means your parents, siblings and your daughter. My daughter is 14 and she has been tested (celiac blood panel) even though she was symptom free. My doc also checked her for anemia since that was my main symptom. Our house is gluten-free since hubby and I both are gluten free and it is easier. My...
  24. I hear ya! I tested positive on only the DGP IGA and the rest of my celiac disease panel was negative two and half years ago. Yet my biopsies revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB (moderate to severe). Thank goodness my GI ordered the complete panel! My symptom was primarily anemia and no GI issues. I went in for a routine colonoscopy (yeah, I am over 50!...
